Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Bustling (5 Updates)

Martial Arts Training Ground.

Lin Wu walked ahead, Fang Yu followed behind.

Although Shi Zhongmei always said that the Yuan Body Martial Arts Hall was strict in recruiting and had fewer disciples,

in reality, Fang Yu noticed at a glance that there were not few people at all.

The field was filled with people, with varying levels of blood strength, some were fierce, and others weak.

They were dressed in similar-style clothing, and each had an ’Yuan’ character embroidered on the chest.

It seemed like the identity symbol of the martial arts hall, but it felt more like a school uniform.

In comparison with them, Fang Yu’s very ordinary short outfit became conspicuous and out of place.

While Fang Yu was assessing them, those people were also secretly sizing up Fang Yu.

”Is he the new disciple that Master took in today?”

”It must be him, he hasn’t even changed his clothes yet.”

”Just another one who got in through the back door.”

”How many bowls of medicinal soup do you think he drank?”

”I bet fifty bowls; these pampered sons of privilege who get in through connections love to splash the cash.”

”Look! He’s going to the Bull Pile area.”

”His Qi-Blood is superficial and his footsteps extravagant, one can tell he has not even crossed the threshold into the Martial Arts.”

”These pampered sons of privilege, instead of being the Eldest Young Master they should be, insist on coming here to suffer. I really don’t know what they’re after.”

”Stop talking, stop talking, the show is about to start. Do you remember the last guy who got in through the back door? He broke his own hand punching the Bull Pile, haha!”

”That’s Lin Guanzi. After he recovered from his injury, he’s still grinding away trying to sense Qi. All his Qi-Blood was wasted away by women ages ago; where would he get the strength to practice martial arts? On the day he joined the martial arts hall, he guzzled thirty cups of medicine, and still couldn’t make the cut, a true waste.”

”What do you think about this new guy then? He won’t fare any better; another Lin Guanzi, that’s all.”

”Wait! Look! The pillar he’s going for is... the Bull Pile’s challenge pillar!”

”No way! Could it be that on his first day, he’s using his chance to challenge the pillar?”

”What a waste! Such a huge waste! If he took the time to nurture his spirit and accumulate strength, and waited a few months before coming here to hit the challenge pillar, he would at least be guaranteed to get three taels of silver. Doing it now, even two taels is too much!”

”He overestimates himself!”

”Hey! We’ve got a good show to watch now!”

Many people around stopped their actions to watch in Fang Yu’s direction.

Fang Yu paid no attention.

According to Lin Wu, the wooden pillars in this area were called Bull Piles, and were fairly suitable for disciples who had just started.

The setup of the wooden pillars was very special, they were movable and connected below to something like a rail, with scales marked beside it.

The wooden pillar was fixed in the initial position; the top featured two bull-horn decorations, hence the name Bull Pile.

When the challenger punches it, the force moves the locked wooden pillar backward, and the distance it moves indicates the power on the scale.

Fang Yu felt the wooden pillar with his hand; it was heavy, very heavy.

Such weight, it would indeed require great strength to make it slide with a punch.

”No need to be nervous; a full force punch from an average person onto the Bull Pile can move it about 1-degree, which we call the strength of 1 Bull.”

”If one can cross the threshold into the Martial Arts, the scale should hover between 1.5 or 1.8 degrees, usually not reaching 2 Bulls of strength.”

”As you continue to practice, you can gradually enhance your strength and punch further.”

”This is a kind of incentive mechanism in the martial arts hall, allowing some disciples who are not wealthy but talented, to at least have the chance to pay for the second month’s food expenses.”

Lin Wu explained the principle of the Bull Pile while Fang Yu had already prepared himself, standing in front of the Bull Pile.

Lin Wu stopped explaining and asked, ”Are you sure you want to use your challenge opportunity now?”

Fang Yu didn’t speak; he was concentrating.

Then, he raised his fist high.

The power of this punch would determine how many taels of silver he could get! He must go all out!!

...

The people secretly observing around them stretched their necks.

”That newbie’s actually challenging the pillar!”

”He’s about to punch!”

”Place your bets! Quick, guess what level of Bull strength he can punch out!”

”I bet 1 Bull! For someone not initiated into the Martial Arts, this is already the limit.”

”I bet 1.5 Bulls. If he dares to challenge the Bull Pile, there must be something to him, but not much.”

”That’s too generous, the highest record for a newbie last time was just 1.8 Bulls. It would be good enough if he could even scrape it, yet you say 1.5 Bulls.”

”I bet 0 Bulls; the Bull Pile won’t move an inch!”

”Hahahaha—”

The crowd instantly burst into laughter.

But at this moment, Fang Yu’s fist had already heavily hit the Bull Pile.

Bang!!

An unusually loud explosion suddenly drowned out the surrounding noise.

Wooo—

The Bull Pile, struck by this force, made a shrill friction noise against the rail on the ground.

The immense impact from Fang Yu’s fist easily made the Bull Pile slide past the 1-degree mark, speeding up towards 2-degrees.

The laughter of the crowd stopped at this moment as they widened their eyes.

Swoosh—

It directly surpassed the 2-degree mark.

”Over 2 Bulls of strength?!”

”2 Bulls of strength; he’s crossed the Martial Arts threshold!”

”It’s still sliding forward! The newcomer has huge power!”

”How can this be! He’s going to break 3 Bulls!”

”It broke!!”

Someone screamed in a high pitch.

The voice immediately drew even more spectators.

1 Bull, 2 Bulls, 3 Bulls!

3 Bulls of strength!

Moreover, the Bull Pile was still sliding!

4 Bulls, it passed the 4 Bull mark!

It slowly came to a stop just shy of 5 Bulls.

The final result... 4.7 Bulls of strength!!

At the scene, there was a sudden dead silence.

After a long while...

Hiss—

Someone gasped.

”Monster newcomer!”

”Is this really a new disciple? Not some senior brother in disguise trying to make fun of us?”

”4.7 Bull’s strength? When I first joined the Martial Arts Hall, after passing the Martial Arts threshold, I only managed to exert 2 Bull’s strength.”

”Isn’t that the case for everyone, just breaking through the Martial Arts threshold, the force we all exerted was at most between 2 Bull and 3 Bull’s strength. Only after my ’Solid Foundation Technique’ broke through did I achieve 4 Bull’s strength, and now...a newcomer already possesses this kind of power!”

”Where did Master find such a treasure? Was he really brought in through the back door?”

”4.2 silver taels and 700 wen, ah! 4.2 silver taels and 700 wen, ah!! I’m so jealous!!”

”Yeah, exactly, why didn’t I have such strength when I first started? This is worth 4.2 silver taels!”

Some screamed with envy, while others were red-eyed with jealousy.

But without exception, they all recognized Fang Yu’s strength.

At this moment, everyone’s thoughts were soaring.

Some even overturned the idea that Fang Yu had entered through the back door.

”It must be a special recruitment! Surely the master discovered a raw gem and specially recruited him!”

”No wonder the assessment ended so quickly; it was all because the master has a discerning eye and saw at a glance the extraordinariness of the new Junior Brother!”

A rumor about the monster newcomer with 4 Bull’s strength thus began to spread from mouth to mouth.

At Bull Pile’s Martial Arts Training Ground, a crowd quickly gathered, all there to watch the excitement or, rather, to make connections.

Such a newcomer was not often seen.

Fang Yu didn’t care about them; the moment he saw his result, he was thrilled.

”4.7 Bull! 4.2 taels and 700 wen! 4.2 taels and 700 wen!”

Lin Wu next to him was even more shocked.

Hearing Fang Yu shout, he finally came to his senses.

This new Junior Brother is really a monster!

He took out a booklet from his chest, opened it, and recorded Fang Yu’s result.

Then he took out 4.2 taels and 700 wen and handed them to Fang Yu.

”This straightforward?”

”What do you think Senior Mei had me bring you here for? That’s my job.”

That’s why Lin Wu was so straightforward with the money.

He was responsible for this sort of record-keeping and award distribution in the Martial Arts Hall.

In the back of the booklet, Lin Wu wrote down a ’Grade A’ potential evaluation for Fang Yu, the new disciple.

And the other pages of evaluations for the rest, all were Grade B or Grade C, with Fang Yu being the only one with a Grade A evaluation.

Lin Wu took another look at Fang Yu, feeling that Fang Yu’s future achievements in the Martial Arts Hall wouldn’t be low.

And Fang Yu, who received the money, was beaming with joy.

This 4.2 taels, plus the 1 tael he already had, along with the 5 taels from his second elder sister, should be enough to cover the debt for breaking the table in the Martial Arts Hall...

He hoped his second elder sister hadn’t spent that money yet.

Indeed, a hero is often stymied by the lack of a single penny.

Before joining the Martial Arts Hall, Fang Yu was full of bravado.

Now, he’s so poor he’s only thinking about making money like crazy.

”Senior Brother Lin, are there any other benefits for new disciples?”

”There are.”

Lin Wu pointed at Bull Pile.

”For new disciples within half a year of joining, if they can hit Bull Pile to the maximum scale of 10, the reward is 10 silver taels.”

Swoosh—

Fang Yu’s gaze instantly became sharp as he looked at Bull Pile, filled with fighting spirit.

10 silver taels!

I’m going to own this Bull Pile! Even Jesus wouldn’t be able to stop me!

But there’s no rush for now; after that punch, Fang Yu clearly felt he hadn’t performed as well as he could have.

Things like posture, the regulation of body strength, and the rhythm of exertion were not at their most perfect.

He needed to practice more, to get used to the stronger body after leveling up, and then aim for 10 Bull’s strength!

As Fang Yu was thinking this, he suddenly looked up and noticed the crowd around him had thickened.

”Hey newcomer, what’s your name?”

”I found out already; his name is Diao Deyi! Our new Junior Brother!”

”Diao Deyi, you’re strong! A punch of 4.7 Bull’s strength! You’ve got some of the flair I had in my youth!”

”Diao Deyi, throw another punch!”

”Junior Brother Diao, let me meet you!”

These people were rather cheeky.

They jovially greeted Fang Yu.

The last one even brazenly jumped over and threw a punch at the now-reset Bull Pile.

Bang!

One punch, and Bull Pile slid out to the 9th scale.

Fang Yu looked up speechlessly at that guy.

[Silver Essence: 45/45.]

45 health?

Are you sure you’re not here to mess around?

Is this how you act as a senior brother?

With that health, you’re punching Bull Pile? You might as well explode it!

Why not go next door to the Tiger Pile?

Fang Yu came to understand a bit. Next door there was another Tiger Pile, which measured a tiger’s strength.

That area was where these kinds of senior brothers belonged.

”Diao Deyi, thanks for letting me win!”

This Silver Essence Senior Brother was actually quite proud, happily accepting the cheers of the audience, throwing dignity to the wind!

You’re proud to win against a brother who just entered the door? Have you no shame?

”Again! Who else wants to challenge Diao Deyi! Place your bets, place your bets.”

Today’s Martial Arts Training Ground was unusually lively.

Everyone was very enthusiastic about hitting the Bull Pile, and it was all because of Fang Yu’s appearance.

It had been a long time since they had seen such a promising new Junior Brother, truly an emerging talent, the new wave pushing the old wave, with a bright future ahead!

If they didn’t take advantage of getting on good terms with Fang Yu before he grew up, they might not even get a chance to meet him later.

This was the future star of the Martial Arts Hall, high above, looking down on all beings!

”Let me give it a try!”

Lin Wu, caught up in the atmosphere, also wanted to give it a punch.

Bang!

One punch down, and Bull Pile slid to the 7 Bull’s scale mark.
