Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 100: Chapter 83: Failure and Success

After a short rest and a moment to adjust, the evolution work continued. Li Qian conveyed his intentions to Tan Tou through Qizai.

When Tan Tou learned it was the next Koi Carp to evolve, it was so excited it nearly leaped out of the water, bubbling incessantly.

Once its excitement had calmed down a bit, Li Qian summoned it to the edge of the pool.

As expected, after consuming a bag of Dragon Bone Powder, Tan Tou followed in Jin Yi’s footsteps. Its body began to emit the faint Light of Evolution.

This marked the official beginning of Tan Tou’s evolution process.

Li Qian pointed, and Tan Tou, having already witnessed Jin Yi’s evolution firsthand, acted immediately without the slightest hesitation.

Its speed was incredible; its body instantly became a streak in the water as it shot toward the bottom of the water slide.

Li Qian sensed Tan Tou’s eagerness, but he wasn’t happy about it. ’Being too eager and using too much force isn’t a good thing.’

Seeing it charge to the bottom of the water slide at top speed, sparing no stamina, a faint sense of worry rose in Li Qian’s heart.

He was afraid it would run out of steam before the end. The final stretch of a long journey is always the hardest.

However, he didn’t voice these concerns. Instead, he watched in silence, saying nothing.

Just as he had during Jin Yi’s evolution, Li Qian paced over to the elevator after seeing Tan Tou rush toward the water slide.

The elevator started, and before long, his figure reappeared at the top of the water slide.

He looked down at Tan Tou, who was swimming against the current. His gaze seemed to pierce through the curtain of water, seeing the impetuous Tan Tou within.

Yes, at this very moment, the feeling Tan Tou gave him could be summed up in one word... impetuous.

It seemed to be in a great hurry to complete its evolution and become a majestic Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon, soaring high in the sky.

After so many evolutions, Li Qian had accumulated a great deal of experience. He knew very well that if it maintained this mindset, this seemingly surefire evolution might not succeed on the first try.

Just as Li Qian thought, events seemed to unfold in that direction. Tan Tou swam upstream, climbing steadily, but by the time it reached the ninety-meter mark, it clearly started to lose momentum.

’A spent force.’ Li Qian shook his head helplessly as he watched Tan Tou struggle to hold on, trying not to be washed back down by the current.

At this point, the situation was already clear. Although it was only five or six meters from the top, for Tan Tou at this moment, those five or six meters would be an extremely difficult hurdle to overcome.

At the ninety-meter mark on the water slide, Tan Tou was still holding on, but Qizai, Xiaoliu, and even the newly evolved Jin Yi could all see that something was wrong.

”This one is just too impatient for a quick victory,” Li Qian murmured softly, his judgment on Tan Tou already formed.

Just as he’d predicted, after struggling for a few more moments, Tan Tou finally gave way. Full of frustration, it was enveloped by the current and plunged into the pool below.

The Light of Evolution covering its body instantly extinguished.

Tan Tou’s failure was within Li Qian’s expectations, but it came as quite a shock to Jin Er and Jin San.

Both Jin Er and Jin San knew deep down that if they were to rank them by aptitude, Tan Tou was undoubtedly superior to them both.

Seeing this, Li Qian sighed, then took the elevator down from the top of the water slide and went to the side of the pool.

”Tan Tou, you were too impetuous. You charged forward with brute force and threw my instructions to the wind. You wasted too much stamina at the beginning, which is why you couldn’t keep going and failed just before the finish line.”

Li Qian didn’t rebuke it too harshly. He just calmly analyzed the situation for it, though his words certainly carried a tone of reprimand.

Seeing Tan Tou sink to the bottom of the pool, looking incredibly dejected and ashamed, Li Qian continued, offering some comfort. ”Reflect on the lessons from this failure and focus on recovering. I’ll give you another chance to evolve tomorrow morning.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he turned his head to look at Jin Er and Jin San swimming next to Tan Tou. ”What I just said goes for you two as well. I hope you will guard against arrogance and impatience, and take it one step at a time.”

”Now, Jin Er, it’s your turn!” Without wasting any time, Li Qian called Jin Er over and fed it Dragon Bone Powder as well.

On the path of evolution, a Beast Master was certainly very important, but the Pet Beast itself was even more crucial.

Li Qian had done everything he could. The rest was up to the Pet Beast itself.

Just like with Tan Tou, if it couldn’t reach the top of the water slide, Li Qian could only sigh helplessly. This was a step he couldn’t take for it; ultimately, the pet had to complete it on its own.

As the Light of Evolution emanated from its body, Jin Er, having learned from Tan Tou’s failure, did not rush forward. Instead, it waited quietly for Li Qian’s command.

Only after seeing Li Qian point did it act decisively, swimming straight toward the water slide. Its speed wasn’t extremely fast, but it wasn’t slow either.

Seeing Jin Er advance with a steady pace, so different from Tan Tou, Li Qian felt his worries ease.

He went to the elevator again, rode it to the top of the water slide, and waited quietly.

Perhaps because the example of Tan Tou’s failure was so profound and fresh—having happened right before its eyes just minutes ago—Jin Er was clearly much more cautious.

Its climbing speed was far slower than Tan Tou’s, but its rhythm was excellent. It swam firmly against the current, and it seemed to still have strength to spare.

Only when it reached the ninety-five-meter mark did it seem to be going all out.

Furthermore, its all-out effort was different from Tan Tou’s desperate struggle. Jin Er was clearly holding a little something in reserve; it hadn’t yet reached its absolute limit.

Finally, with this last burst of energy, it made a powerful leap and shot out from the top of the water slide.

Li Qian let out a long breath but immediately refocused his concentration. Not daring to be the least bit careless, he forcefully threw the Wind Chime Fruit.

Jin Er leaped in mid-air, accurately caught the Wind Chime Fruit, and then swallowed it without hesitation.

As it swallowed the Wind Chime Fruit, the Light of Evolution on Jin Er’s body instantly flared to its apex, illuminating the entire area around the water slide.

The radiance faded, revealing a Flood Dragon!

In the end, after a tense but successful trial, Jin Er also evolved into a Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon!

Jin Er’s success brought a smile to Li Qian’s lips and set his heart at ease.

With Jin Yi and Jin Er having succeeded, he wasn’t too worried about the next one, Jin San.

Among the three Koi Carp, it had the highest aptitude. If Jin Yi and Jin Er could succeed, it would have no problem.

Plus, with Tan Tou’s failure as a precedent, Jin San definitely wouldn’t dare to be careless, so its probability of success was quite high.

And, just as he had guessed, about an hour and a half later, Jin San also completed its evolution.

The evolution process for the four Koi Carp had taken up almost the entire afternoon. By the time it was over, the sun was setting, and dusk had fallen.

Li Qian glanced over at Tan Tou. It was keeping to itself, avoiding both the other Koi Carp that were aiming to evolve into Frostfire Salamanders and the newly transformed Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragons—Jin Yi, Jin Er, and Jin San. Seeing its dejected expression, Li Qian spoke again to offer some comfort. ”Get ready. In ten hours, we’ll continue the evolution. I hope that next time, you’ll have learned your lesson and will guard against your impatience.”

With that said, he didn’t hesitate to dial a number and call Fatty An.

Time for dinner to be delivered!
