Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 56: Chapter 54: What Is This Thing?

A translucent screen of light materialized, blocking the Shadow Soul robot’s mechanical arm strike at the last possible moment.

HUMMM~!

The mechanical arm slammed against the screen of light, sending ripples spreading across its surface.

”MEOW~!”

Perched on Li Lanying’s shoulder, Duomila let out an anxious cry.

The ripples on the light screen multiplied, and it began to look like it was on the verge of shattering.

Clearly, Duomila’s Guardian skill couldn’t completely block the Shadow Soul robot’s Mechanical Arm attack.

It could only serve as a temporary delay.

The moment the two skills clashed, Guardian began to fail. Li Lanying quickly shouted, ”Everyone, fall back!”

Hearing her, the crowd finally snapped out of it and scattered in all directions.

Their rapid retreat averted a disaster.

Seeing this, Li Qian didn’t hesitate to act.

The light of a Summoning Array flared to life once more.

Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon Qizai leaped forth.

At the same time, Li Qian took a moment to use his Eye of True Sight to inspect Duomila and the Shadow Soul.

First, Duomila’s information.

[Name: Duomila]

[Attribute: Life]

[Level: Tier Two Elite]

[Potential: Tier Three Dominator]

[Skills: Cat Bite (Mastery), Self-Healing (Mastery), Healing (Perfection), Light of Healing (Skilled), Purification (Skilled), Guardian (Mastery)]

’Duomila’s level is actually Tier Two Elite, higher than Qizai’s,’ Li Qian noted with some surprise.

Li Qian didn’t know when Li Lanying had awakened her abilities.

However, judging from Duomila’s Level, she must have awakened some time ago.

’At least, it was definitely earlier than me.’

After reading Duomila’s information, he checked the stats for the Shadow Soul.

[Name: Car Robot (Shadow Soul)]

[Attribute: Mechanical]

[Level: Tier Seven Elite]

[Potential: Tier Nine Elite]

[Skills: Rage (Perfection), Mechanical Transformation (Perfection), Mechanical Repair (Beginner), Mechanical Arm (Skilled), Mad Scattering (Skilled), Flamethrower (Skilled), Laser Beam (Beginner)]

After reviewing the Shadow Soul’s information, Li Qian couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

’It seems not all Car Robots are created equal.’

’The difference between Lu Kuihuan’s Shadow Soul and Zhou Weiping’s Mad Dragon No. 3 is pretty obvious.’

’You can tell just by looking at their Potential.’

All of this took longer to describe than it did to happen; in reality, it was all taken in at a single glance.

The crowd retreated a safe distance, and when they looked back, they immediately spotted the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon.

The appearance of the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon caused an instant uproar.

”Wh-what is that...?”

”A Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon!”

”It’s really a Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon!”

”Oh my god, I’m actually seeing a Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon with my own eyes!”

...

Many who saw the beast cried out in astonishment.

Their pupils dilated, and some even rubbed their eyes, faces etched with disbelief.

”Qizai, go!” Ignoring the crowd’s shock and amazement, Li Qian commanded his Pet Beast, who immediately took an attack stance.

Even sensing that its opponent’s aura was clearly stronger, Qizai was completely unafraid.

It opened with a High-Pressure Water Cannon!

BANG~!

A rapidly spinning sphere of water shot out at immense speed. The Shadow Soul couldn’t dodge in time and took a direct hit.

BOOM~!

The High-Pressure Water Cannon’s power was terrifying. It slammed into the Shadow Soul, knocking the robot to the ground.

But even a strike that powerful, one that had knocked the Shadow Soul down, hadn’t seriously damaged it. Li Qian could tell.

And the facts proved him right.

Although it had fallen and crushed a large flowerbed, its combat effectiveness was barely diminished.

A dark, gaping cannon barrel extended from its chest.

”Flamethrower!”

Scorching flames erupted from the barrel.

”High-Pressure Water Cannon!” Facing the oncoming flames, Qizai showed no fear. The battle lust in its eyes flared as it fired another rapidly spinning sphere of water.

The water sphere and the flames collided with a loud SZZZZZLE, and a cloud of white steam instantly enveloped the area in front of the hotel entrance.

”Gale Slash!” Seizing the opening as the Shadow Soul struggled to its feet, Qizai attacked again without a moment’s hesitation.

A massive Wind Blade slashed forward with biting intensity.

”Dragon Claw!”

As it launched the Gale Slash, Qizai closed the distance in a flash. A cold, sharp light glinted on its Dragon Claw as it thrust forward.

KRRR-TZZT...

The razor-sharp Dragon Claw struck the Shadow Soul’s chest, punching a hole clean through. With its Mechanical Body damaged, streams of electric sparks burst from the wound.

Lu Kuihuan was stunned to see his Shadow Soul injured.

The Car Robot he’d bought was a Tier Seven Elite! Li Qian’s Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon couldn’t have been contracted for long; at best, it should have just reached the Elite rank.

’How could it possibly be a match for my Shadow Soul?!’

But reality delivered a harsh slap to his face.

In a panic, without thinking, he blurted out, ”Li Qian, don’t hurt my Shadow Soul!”

He would have been better off staying silent. The moment the words left his mouth, he drew the fury of the crowd.

”Hey, kid! Your Shadow Soul almost killed us! You’d better have a good explanation for this!”

”Lu Kuihuan, what the hell is going on?”

”Yeah, Lu Kuihuan! We’re supposed to be classmates! Why are you trying to get us killed?!”

...

The angry crowd closed in on Lu Kuihuan, looking like they were ready to tear him limb from limb.

Seeing this, beads of cold sweat immediately broke out on Lu Kuihuan’s forehead.

He hurriedly tried to defend himself. ”No, it’s not like that! I don’t know what’s going on either!”

”I don’t give a damn if you know or not! You almost got me killed! I’m gonna beat you up first and ask questions later!” a hot-tempered bald man yelled, ignoring the explanation and balling his fists.

THUD THUD THUD...

The sound of fists hitting flesh rang out, and Lu Kuihuan was quickly beaten until he curled up on the ground like a shrimp.

Seeing this, several other tourists didn’t hold back, joining the fray to land a few punches and kicks of their own.

His classmates saw this but didn’t dare intervene. Those men clearly weren’t people you wanted to cross.

Besides, they had nearly gotten caught up in the disaster themselves, so they had no desire to step in.

Sun Shouhe, his so-called ”best buddy,” shrank all the way to the back of the crowd.

Li Lanying glanced over, saw what was happening, and quickly shouted, ”Stop hitting him! Get over here and help!”

If they didn’t stop, Lu Kuihuan might actually be beaten to death. He was a classmate, after all, and she didn’t want to see that happen.

Her shout snapped everyone back to reality. They immediately began to summon their own Pet Beasts.

There is strength in numbers.

Although only a few people there owned Pet Beasts—and those were mostly of the Ordinary Level—their sheer numbers made a difference.

With a great clamor, a dozen or so Pet Beasts were summoned. Working with Qizai, they unleashed a chaotic barrage—water bombs one moment, flames the next, then a Wind Blade—overwhelming the Shadow Soul until it couldn’t even fight back.

BANG!

In the end, overwhelmed and outnumbered, the Shadow Soul was knocked to the ground with a thunderous crash.

Just when everyone thought they had finally dealt with the rogue robot...

ZZZZT...

A Mechanical Octopus, about the size of a washbasin, drilled its way out of the Shadow Soul’s head.

Seeing this, Li Qian couldn’t help but frown.

”What is that thing?”
