Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 69: Chapter 66: Recruitment 2

There wasn’t much to say about their abilities. You could only describe them as ”unremarkable”—not bad, but not great either. However, by relying on the man’s handsome looks and the woman’s beauty, they roamed all over the country and managed to attract a great deal of high-quality student prospects.

Take Xue Huaiyu, for example. Whenever she made a move, any young man with a budding crush and little self-control was a guaranteed catch.

Although this ”handsome man” and ”honey trap” strategy was a bit crude, Zhou Chubin had to admit it was quite effective.

In recent years, the quality of students at Shazhou Beast Taming University had improved significantly. They were even showing signs of surpassing Kansai Beast Taming University, finally escaping their last-place ranking.

After all, Shazhou Beast Taming University was located in the Western Province, the Federation’s westernmost province. It was even more remote than Xiping Province, and most of its territory consisted of desolate Gobi desert and sand dunes.

Due to its geographical location, the Western Province was sparsely populated. As a result, Shazhou Beast Taming University had always had the weakest pool of prospective students among the Eight Great universities. If not for the Federation Government’s strong support in recent years, it was uncertain whether they could have even remained one of the Eight Great.

It was safe to say that besides students from their own province and some who specialized in Wind and Earth Element Beast Taming Talents, they found it very difficult to attract other outstanding prospects.

So, he could understand why Shazhou Beast Taming University would resort to such ”tricks.” But understanding was one thing; facing this kind of blatant poaching, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of disgust.

”Lingshui City may be a small city, but it’s still within our Jiangnan Province. Isn’t it perfectly normal for me to be here?” Zhou Chubin flashed a professional smile and responded ”politely,” ”On the other hand, Teacher Xue, traveling thousands of miles to our Jiangnan Province... I wonder what brings you here?”

Since she wanted to feign ignorance and play games, he might as well play along. And so, the two old foxes began to circle each other.

”I heard Lingshui City has produced an incredible cultivation prodigy. He hasn’t even graduated from high school, yet he figured out the evolution path from Koi Carp to Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon. I came today specifically to make his acquaintance.” Xue Huaiyu looked at Zhou Chubin and chuckled. Deciding to drop the act, she cut straight to the chase and stated her purpose directly. ”Our Shazhou Beast Taming University is in the remote Western Province. Unlike you at Jiangnan Beast Taming University, our appeal to talented individuals is limited. Therefore, we admissions teachers have to be a little more diligent, to see if we can get lucky.”

Xue Huaiyu’s words were tactful, but they only made Zhou Chubin more guarded.

Logically, the other members of the Eight Great closest to Jiangnan Province should have been Zhonghai Beast Taming University in Jiangdong Province and Mizhou Beast Taming University in Southwestern Province.

Yet, aside from himself—the one with the home-field advantage—the first to come knocking was Shazhou Beast Taming University, from thousands of miles away.

Furthermore, he’d long heard that the Cultivation College was Shazhou Beast Taming University’s Achilles’ heel.

For years, there had been rumors that Shazhou Beast Taming University planned to heavily invest in and support its Cultivation College.

’If that’s true,’ he thought, ’then the ”sincere offer” Xue Huaiyu has brought this time might be more than I anticipated.’

Why had Li Qian attracted him and the woman standing before him? Wasn’t it precisely because of his monstrously prodigious talent for cultivation?

In other words, Li Qian’s talent perfectly filled a desperate need for Shazhou Beast Taming University.

It would be strange if they weren’t taking this seriously.

Zhou Chubin even suspected that, at this very moment, admissions teachers from the other six great universities were probably already on their way.

Every year, the period just before high school graduation was the busiest time for admissions teachers from the Beast Taming Universities.

True prodigies were almost always admitted through special recruitment in advance; very few went through the standard college entrance examinations.

Zhou Chubin’s brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. ”Teacher Xue, this is Jiangnan Province. Don’t you think it’s a bit out of line for you to come here and poach our prospects?”

Hearing this, Xue Huaiyu covered her mouth with her hand and chuckled softly. ”You must be joking, Teacher Zhou. According to the Federation’s education laws, all Eight Great universities recruit from the entire nation.”

”This kind of territorial, ’king-of-the-hill’ thinking is unacceptable. Li Qian was born in Jiangnan Province, but he isn’t a student of Jiangnan Beast Taming University until he actually enrolls.”

”As for which Beast Taming University Li Qian ultimately chooses to attend, well, that will come down to who has more to offer.”

Xue Huaiyu was being blunt, and there was nothing Zhou Chubin could do about it. He glanced at Chu Xiran, who was standing beside him.

At that moment, however, she was staring at the floor, feigning detachment, seemingly completely uninterested in their argument.

And that was indeed the case.

Although she was a graduate of Jiangnan Beast Taming University, that connection only gave her a slight preference, all other things being equal.

In fact, she was happy to see more Beast Taming Universities approaching Li Qian. The more choices he had, the better.

She hoped all Eight Great universities would show up so he could pick the absolute best of the best.

Xue Huaiyu noticed Zhou Chubin’s glance toward Chu Xiran. With a smile, she asked, ”And you are, miss?”

Her voice was quite polite, and Chu Xiran wasn’t one to be rude to someone with a smile on their face.

”My name is Chu Xiran. I’m a teacher at Lingshui City Beast Taming High School, and I’m also Li Qian’s cultivation teacher.”

The moment the words left her mouth, Xue Huaiyu strode over and enthusiastically grabbed her hand. ”So you’re Li Qian’s cultivation teacher!”
