Chapter 901: Chapter 897: Mutant Virus

This way, even the timing cannot be accurately determined, and any subsequent deductions are meaningless.

If Xiang Yiting hadn’t been in Xiao Tian’s sight from start to finish, she would have been the primary suspect.

After much thought, Xiao Tian decided to temporarily set aside matters involving the Mysterious Man and focus on resolving the current issues.

”You just said you’re the head of the Water Drop Organization’s biochemical lab. Do you have any proof?” Xiao Tian asked with suspicion.

Adison Claire replied, ”Since you know about the Water Drop Organization, you must have heard of the Biochemical Beasts, perhaps now called Biohumans.”

Xiao Tian nodded, indicating he indeed knew.

”I have all the experiment records from the past two years saved in my laboratory.

If you don’t believe me, I can prove it, but only after I’m freed; otherwise, once I access the database, the virus implanted in me will immediately spread.”

Xiao Tian nodded, temporarily accepting this explanation.

From their opposing standpoints, helping Adison Claire break free from the Water Drop Organization’s control was akin to severing an arm of the enemy.

Although weakening the Water Drop Organization’s strength doesn’t equate to empowering Xiao Tian, it is undoubtedly a good thing for him. At least, in future conflicts, the enemy would have fewer tactics.

The problem, however, is whether such actions would put him in danger, as Adison Claire is a significant figure in the Water Drop Organization, and shaking off their control easily seemed impossible.

Moreover, if Xiao Tian seriously attempts to rescue Adison Claire, it’ll feel as if he’s being manipulated, like following directives set by the Mysterious Man, which is deeply unsettling.

”Earlier, you mentioned your friend was poisoned with a potent toxin. If I help save him, will you agree to help me out of my predicament?”

Just as Xiao Tian was weighing the pros and cons, Adison Claire proposed, though there was no sense of mutual cooperation, and she seemed clearly insecure, fearing rejection.

Xiao Tian pondered for a moment and then asked, ”Why not use the previous experiment records as a condition? You know the Water Drop Organization’s vast influence stems significantly from the Biochemical Beasts, which could even be auctioned at sky-high prices.”

Hearing those words, Adison Claire felt deeply offended, as it seemed the greatest mockery, and was profoundly distressed.

After a moment of silence, Adison Claire solemnly said, ”Of course I understand what you’re saying, but that was never my intention. After I experienced an accident, the Water Drop Organization saved me. Only later did I agree to their request to conduct biochemical experiments for them.

At first, I only experimented on animals, but every time, my experiments were later modified and used on humans, which was not my original intention!”

Xiao Tian didn’t dwell on Adison Claire’s evasive response but asked, ”What next? Why did you choose to continue the experiments?”

In truth, Xiao Tian understood Adison Claire was forced to conduct experiments, but he felt it wasn’t entirely for that reason given what she just said.

Indeed, Adison Claire gave a wry smile: ”After realizing their actions, I did rebel, and when it seemed pointless, I even slacked, and you see the consequences now.”

At this point, Xiao Tian remained silent. One might say Adison Claire brought this upon herself. Had she not accepted the Water Drop Organization’s request initially, she wouldn’t be in such a state now.

But there’s no ifs in this world. Regret won’t change the past; he was more interested in what Adison Claire would say next.

Soon, Adison Claire spoke again, ”As for why I won’t exchange the experiment records, it’s because I won’t let them harm others and have decided to destroy them entirely, whether you agree to help me or not.”

Xiao Tian wholeheartedly agreed with such a righteous decision. Just as he was about to speak, Adison Claire sighed and continued, ”In reality, I have no more ways out. If you don’t intend to help me, please leave now.”

Hearing this, Xiao Tian instinctively felt something was amiss and asked, ”You are an expert in this field. Can’t you remove the toxins from your own body?”

”Of course, I can!”

Adison Claire replied, ”In fact, the toxins in me are, in essence, similar to Biochemical Beasts—another type of mutated virus, and it’s my latest and most powerful virus yet.”

”Ordinary Biochemical Beasts lose self-awareness after the virus spreads, becoming puppets controlled by others, lacking the ability to distinguish friend from foe when driven by specific means.”

Adison Claire explained in detail, ”But the mutated virus in me, once it begins to spread, can develop a certain degree of self-awareness, and compared to earlier viruses, its power is at least ten times stronger.”

Even with Xiao Tian’s composure, he was taken aback by her words.

Though it might seem there’s no fundamental change in having self-awareness, Xiao Tian was acutely aware of the vast difference, practically a world apart!

Generally, non-sentient Biochemical Beasts, no matter how powerful, are mere puppets with combat instincts. Their attack patterns remain largely unchanged.

As long as they don’t attack first, and by patiently searching for flaws, they aren’t as hard to defeat as they seem.

It’s even feasible to further exploit the flaws of Biochemical Beasts to turn their strength against them!

However, once a Biochemical Beast has self-awareness, it introduces numerous variables, making it much harder to identify weaknesses.

The combination of enhanced physical form and some self-awareness makes Adison Claire’s ’tenfold strength’ claim not an exaggeration.

”You mentioned self-awareness, so wouldn’t that mean the Water Drop Organization can’t control the virus host either?” Xiao Tian honed in on the crucial point, asking further.

”Good question!”

Adison Claire’s eyes lit up, praising, ”Now I somewhat believe you can truly assist me!”

She continued, ”Previously, those Biochemical Beasts were controlled through specific tools or methods, but the mutated virus in me is controlled directly using specific energy from the Water Drop Organization.”

”Once the specified level is surpassed, one gains control privileges, and these permissions can be modified.”
