I always thought the Doc was someone ruthless but…

Maybe he also changed over time?

His original creation, the Monster of Frankenstein, left him due to being a bad father.

But after all this time… did he improve a little?

Maybe inspired by my own father raising me… after all, Franky is quite young.

Even monsters can change when they experience love, huh? We can all relate to that here. We are a band of misfits, haha.

”Iʼm sorry father…” Franky sighed. ”Ummm…” then she looked at me. ”I-Is she the young lady?”

”Yes, bow and show her respect, Franky,” the doctor said. ”She is Kireina, the daughter of our great lord.”

”Oh my gosh! Is it really you?!” Franky cried like a fangirl. ”Iʼve dreamed of the day we could meet! Kyaaaaa!”

”I-I told you to show respect!” her father tried to stop her, but Franky ran toward me, opening her head to reveal her brain covered in stickers shaped like me or purple butterflies. ”I am a big fan!”

”F-Fan?” I felt slightly bewildered. ”Where did you get those stickers?!”

”From the Young Lady Fan Meeting!” Franky smiled. ”Thereʼs a lot of people in the organization that love you and are your fans, young lady! Youʼre our idol!”

”A-Am I?” I was surprised. ”I havenʼt done anything incredible to earn so much love…”

”W-What?! Merely being born is enough!” she giggled. ”Youʼre as wonderful as I thought, aaahh! Itʼs such an honor! Can we take a selfie?!”

”S-Sure…” shocked, I stood there as she took a selfie while making a peace sign with her fingers.

I didnʼt know she even had her own smartphone…

Every time I meet someone from this organization, itʼs always someone quirky and out of the ordinary, huh?

Maybe Father and I are magnets for these kinds of people.

”Kyaaaa! Thank you so much! I will cherish this photo my entire life!” Franky giggled while smiling at me. ”A-Ah! I must smell terrible!”

”You have no smell…” I said. ”You are technically not a zombie, right, Doc?”

”Heh, I am glad you understand my genius, young lady,” the Doc said. ”Indeed! Franky is my latest and most brilliant creation! While I failed with the first being I made, sheʼs the perfect… living being! I have finally created a human out of alchemy! Heheh… well… not completely, as you can see sheʼs not entirely perfect.”

”Itʼs fine, Dad, Iʼm happy how I am!” Franky said.

”But you must continue evolving,” the Doc said. ”Eventually I will master the power of the Philosopherʼs Stone I made and fully recreate your body… you will become a true human—no, a high human!”

”Dad…” Franky sighed. ”Being a Homunculus is not so bad…”

”You could always be happier as a proper human… you always say you want to interact with people and go to school, right?” the Doc asked angrily.

”W-Well…” Franky seemed to be happy how she was, but she indeed seemed to long for more things that normal humans could do. ”Iʼm glad… that I am alive by your side…”

”…”

The doctor looked down, showing an expression full of thought… but he was also flustered.

He just wanted to give his daughter the best in the world, huh?

I understand how he feels.

”Hmph, always saying such things… Franky, you must always aspire to more,” the Doc said. ”Ahem! Anyway, I apologize for all these distractions. Shall we get to it, Mirabilis, Medea?”

”Very well,” Mirabilis nodded. ”Your daughter is adorable, Doc.”

”Yes! Sheʼs such a cutie! Why donʼt you show her to us more? You always keep her in this tower,” Medea said angrily. ”Youʼre hogging this cutie all for yourself!”

”W-What are you even implying, you stupid woman…” the Doc said angrily. ”I am just protecting her, sheʼs still developing… I canʼt afford to let her go on missions yet either. Technically sheʼs not part of the organization. This is also a reason why she canʼt roam outside so easily.”

”…” Franky looked down. ”Father, canʼt I join, though? Iʼve already learned how to fight!”

”Not yet! I must perfect you,” the doctor said.

”Eeehh…” Franky rolled her eyes.

”Well, soon thereʼll be an entrance exam,” I said, looking at Franky. ”Perhaps you could join. If you succeed, youʼll become a member of the organization anyway. Your father canʼt really stop you.”

”Ooohh?! Really?!” Franky asked, her eyes glowing with golden lightning. ”M-Maybe thatʼs it! Young lady, would you help me join?”

”Sure! I could—”

”W-Wait a second, young lady!” the Doc said desperately. He was an overprotective father. ”You canʼt just agree to that, sheʼs not… your creation…”

”Doc, Franky is her own person, right?” I asked.

”…Yes,” he said. ”I didnʼt make a mere drone, she is a free human being… or well, thatʼs what I am trying to create.”

”Then you canʼt just force her,” I said. ”One day you have to let her go into the wide world outside.”

”…But,” he looked pained. ”I already did that once… and I was betrayed.”

He must be talking about the Frankenstein Monster, his first creation.

His eldest son.

”Um… I would never betray you,” Franky said. ”I am not like my big brother.”

”Well… I will think about it!” the Doc sighed. ”Letʼs begin, shall we? We came here to create elixirs for your foundation, young lady.”

”Okay,” I nodded. ”So should I help?”

”Hahah, you donʼt really know how to do alchemy, young lady,” Medea giggled.

”Youʼll end up making a mess,” Mirabilis said.

”What? I have studied on my own!” I complained. ”I am not a clueless girl like you all think! I swear I am not stupid!” I said angrily.

”We know youʼre not stupid,” Wasp said. ”But even then, the alchemy youʼve studied simply cannot compare to the mastery Frankenstein, Medea, and Mirabilis possess, especially when combined.”

”…Right.”

I have done a lot of alchemy, but it was all through skills… Did I ever understand and comprehend what alchemy truly was without the systemʼs assistance?

No, not at all…
