Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chen Jie listened to this and looked at Zhang Dingbian, saying, ”Alright, I agree to help you rescue your junior brother Kang Maocai, kill Lu Feng, and then together we’ll return to Huangzhou Prefecture to plan the major events.”

”Alright!”

Zhang Dingbian agreed readily, and at this point Chen Jie raised his wine cup and said, ”Let’s consider this a done deal.”

Zhang Dingbian replied, ”A deal it is.”

With this gentleman’s agreement, their relationship naturally stepped further. They drank for half the day, then discussed and decided to go out the next day to gather some information. First, they needed to confirm whether Kang Maocai was dead or alive and where he was imprisoned.

Secondly, Chen Jie needed to continue finding out where the Ruyang King was. Since the Ruyang King wasn’t in Tuotuo’s mansion, the next possible places were the Heavenly Prison or the Great Buddha Temple.

Chen Jie had a bad premonition; a crucial figure like the Ruyang King was likely sent to the Great Buddha Temple.

After all, it was guarded by an Earthly Immortal, making it difficult for others to stir up trouble.

Nevertheless, Chen Jie still needed to visit the Heavenly Prison. What if Tuotuo was foolish enough to imprison the Ruyang King there?

Moreover, the Great Buddha Temple wasn’t a place one could visit easily; the slightest misstep might lead to being detained by the Basiba Living Buddha.

Thinking of this, Chen Jie and Zhang Dingbian discussed it further and decided to rest for the day and tackle everything the next day.

Thus, the night passed without event. At dawn, Chen Jie and the others gathered again, had breakfast at the inn, and then set out.

Upon going out, they found the city under stricter martial law than usual, prompting them to be more cautious.

By evening when they regrouped, they had gathered all the information. Chen Jie and his companions located the Heavenly Prison, and Zhang Dingbian received news that his junior brother Kang Maocai was indeed imprisoned there.

Of course, this news wasn’t hard to come by; it was plainly bait from Lu Feng to attract Zhang Dingbian.

Zhang Dingbian returned, explained the situation to Chen Jie, who frowned and said, ”Don’t you think this information was too easy to obtain?”

Zhang Dingbian replied, ”I know, it’s definitely a deliberate act to lure us to the Heavenly Prison.”

Chen Jie said, ”Hmm, this is a classic trap method; we mustn’t fall for it.”

Zhang Dingbian said, ”I must go to the Heavenly Prison, Hero Chen, you shouldn’t come. I’ve shared many years of camaraderie with my junior brother, I can’t abandon him. It’s not worth it for you.”

Upon hearing Zhang Dingbian’s words, Chen Jie said, ”Dingbian, your words are quite disheartening. I promised to help you save your junior brother, and that’s what I’ll do; no excuses. However, this matter should be approached with wisdom, not brute force.”

”The Heavenly Prison is tightly guarded, and given that they’ve set this trap, there’s bound to be martial experts present. If we go in recklessly, we won’t save your junior brother and might lose our lives in vain.”

Hearing this, Zhang Dingbian looked at Chen Jie and asked, ”So, what do you suggest?”

Chen Jie said, ”Our influence in the Great Capital is still too weak, and we’re lacking in information. We need to borrow some power.”

Zhang Dingbian asked, ”This is the court’s territory, where can we borrow power from?”

Chen Jie pondered and said, ”Yes, where can we borrow power from?”

While Chen Jie was thinking, he suddenly heard a voice outside, ”Waiter, serve the best wine and meat! This journey has made me starving!”

Hmm!

Hearing this voice, Chen Jie paused and then looked towards the door, saying, ”This voice sounds so familiar, ha-ha, Brother Dingbian, our source of power has arrived!”
