Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

”Where did he go?”

Chen Jie and Zhao Ya exchanged glances. Zhao Ya shook her head and said, ”I don’t know.”

Chen Jie said, ”Let’s go, let’s follow him and see.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Ya replied, ”Alright.”

After all, the two were also planning to find traces of the Ruyang King. Initially, they intended to rest well for the night and wait for opportunities to explore tomorrow.

But now it seems unnecessary.

With that thought, the two of them leaped out of the room. Then, they closed the window from the outside, following Zhang Dingbian and his entourage forward.

At this time, Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai headed directly east of the Great Capital. Upon seeing this, Zhao Ya said, ”Isn’t he heading toward the Prime Minister’s Mansion?”

Chen Jie raised his eyebrows at Zhao Ya and said, ”The Prime Minister’s Mansion is in the east?”

Zhao Ya nodded slightly and said, ”The layout of the Great Capital is: East for civil servants, West for military generals, South for common people’s gathering, North for the Great Buddha Temple, where Living Buddha Basiba resides, and the center is the Imperial City.”

Chen Jie asked, ”How do you explain that?”

Zhao Ya replied, ”The east side is where the civil servants reside, the west side is for military generals of the court, the south side is a gathering place for common folk, and the north is home to the Great Buddha Temple and Living Buddha Basiba. The middle is the Imperial City.”

”We entered the city from South City, so the place we reside belongs to the impoverished area of South City, and the direction Zhang Dingbian is heading is the East City, where civil servants are.”

Understanding this, Chen Jie nodded lightly. So that’s it, why is Zhang Dingbian going to East City?

Chen Jie looked puzzled, and upon hearing these words, Zhao Ya looked at Chen Jie and said, ”He really is heading toward the Prime Minister’s Mansion!”

Chen Jie watched as Zhang Dingbian and the others headed directly to the largest mansion in East City. Indeed, that was the residence of the Left Minister, Tuotuo.

At this moment, Tuotuo’s residence was brightly lit, with singing and dancing, luxurious and grand, comparable to the Imperial Palace.

Tuotuo had political talent, but he was not a clean official; or rather, there were no clean officials in the Daqian dynasty court. In the past, the court was generally divided into the Pure Stream and corrupt officials.

But Daqian did not have that distinction; the officials in Daqian’s court were only divided into two types: those who took money to get things done and those who took money and did not get things done.

At this time, Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai landed on the rooftop not far from Tuotuo’s luxurious mansion.

Looking at the scene of revelry and decadence within Tuotuo’s clan, they were quite enraged.

”These damn officials.”

Kang Maocai cursed angrily. Zhang Dingbian said, ”Don’t worry about this for now, don’t forget the purpose of our visit to the Great Capital this time.”

Kang Maocai gritted his teeth and said, ”Cleaning the house!”

Zhang Dingbian said, ”That’s right, cleaning the house, find Lu Feng and kill him.”

”Hmm!”

Kang Maocai nodded with resentment.

Zhang Dingbian, Lu Feng, and Kang Maocai were originally three senior brothers. Lu Feng was the senior brother among them, born of a prestigious family, rumored to be a descendant of Jade Qilin Lu Junyi, the second in command at Water Pool Liang Mountain back then.

Hence, he was accepted as the senior disciple by their master, a legitimate heir of the Yue Family. Later, their master accepted Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai as disciples.

After Lu Feng finished his learning period, he went down the mountain to gain experience, with no news for several years.

Later, their master instructed Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai to go down the mountain for training, leaving only their little junior sister to take care.

However, when Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai returned to the mountain again, they found their secluded place had turned into barren land, and the house was burned down.

Both their master and little junior sister were missing.

The two searched frantically, ultimately exerting great effort to find a sign they had agreed with the little junior sister in a small village twenty miles away from their secluded place. Because the sign was designed after their senior brother left, he didn’t know about it.

Upon discovering this sign, they were overjoyed and followed it to a shop selling bamboo baskets.

Inside was a young man, who saw the two standing at the door, was instantly stunned, then his face immediately showed a smile: ”Second Brother Zhang, Third Brother Kang, you are finally here!”

The two were surprised, not expecting the young man to know them. At this moment, Zhang Dingbian remembered and said, ”You’re the peddler who often delivered goods to the mountains!”

”Yes, yes, Xiao Song!”

Kang Maocai also recalled that, indeed, there was such a Xiao Song who regularly delivered goods to the mountains. Thinking of this, Kang Maocai looked at Xiao Song and said, ”How did you remember the sign we agreed with the junior sister, and what exactly happened in my mountain?”

Kang Maocai looked at Xiao Song and asked.

Listening to these words, Xiao Song deeply inhaled and said, ”Come with me.”

Upon hearing Xiao Song’s words, Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai instinctively felt a jolt in their hearts, sensing that matters might not be as simple as imagined.

The two followed Xiao Song to the Inner Hall, passing through a small courtyard leading to a dark little room inside, which, when opened, immediately emitted a pungent herbal smell.

Inside the room was a bed with a curtain covering, lying on the bed was someone covered with a thick quilt.

”Cough cough~”

Occasionally, there was the sound of coughing.

”Little Butterfly, I’m back, look who I’ve brought back.”

Xiao Song said toward the inside of the room. Upon hearing these words, the person on the bed struggled to turn over and looked toward the door. With one glance, silence fell.

Then came continuous sobbing.

”Second Senior Brother, Third Senior Brother, you’ve finally come back, sob sob...”

”Little, little junior sister!”

Upon hearing the sobbing, Zhang Dingbian and Kang Maocai were stunned, rushing to the bedside, looking at the little junior sister on the bed, completely bewildered.

Is this still their little junior sister?

The woman on the bed was covered in scars, shocking to behold, with broken legs, only able to lie on the bed, looking like a monster, nothing like the once-innocently lively, beautifully gentle little junior sister.
