Chapter 1488: Chapter 339: Chen Jie: Yaya, I’ve Come to Get You!

Jiusi!

Zhao Ya’s eyes suddenly widened in disbelief. How could he possibly be here?

Am I seeing things?

Zhao Ya blinked incredulously and looked again in that direction!

He was still there!

He came. He really came.

At this moment, he was looking at her, and Zhao Ya’s eyes reddened as if she was a wronged little girl who wanted to cry.

But she dared not cry, afraid her unusual behavior would attract the attention of others.

There were too many experts in the team escorting her, how could Chen Jiusi, with the abilities of a Dragon Realm, possibly handle it? Even though she desperately wished Chen Jiusi could come to save her, she hesitated the moment she actually saw him appear.

No, I can’t bring disaster to Chen Jiusi.

Right now, she was like a hot potato, deadly for the currently weak Chen Jiusi.

Even though Chen Jiusi had already fallen out with the court, he was at most a minor thief in the court’s eyes, but if she entangled with him further.

Then he might really be noticed by the Emperor, and if the court then targeted him as a key target, what would he do?

Could he withstand the suppression of the court’s army?

Thinking of this, Zhao Ya was tormented inside. She really wanted to run to Chen Jiusi without any scruples, to embrace him, but she dared not, truly dared not.

If she really did that, it would be a catastrophe for the weak Chen Jiusi.

Thinking of this, Zhao Ya forced her head to turn in another direction, not looking at Chen Jiusi. She was genuinely afraid of bringing disaster to Chen Jie.

Yet her neck felt like it was made of iron, making it extremely difficult to turn, and her eyes couldn’t help but glance in that direction.

”Fourth Brother, Commandery Princess, why did the Commandery Princess turn her head away?”

Xiao Hu waved at the Commandery Princess but found that she had turned her head away from Chen Jie.

Chen Jie heard this, chuckled bitterly, and said, ”She’s afraid!”

”Afraid, afraid of what? We’re all here, what’s there to be afraid of?”

Xiao Hu continued to ask, to which Chen Jie replied, ”Precisely because we’re here, that’s why she’s afraid.”

Xiao Hu didn’t understand, Chen Jie just patted Xiao Hu’s shoulder...

At this moment, Tuomu led the way ahead, looked back, and instantly saw the Commandery Princess sticking her head out. Although Zhao Ya had tried hard to turn her head away, he still keenly sensed something was wrong, glanced at the tavern where Chen Jie was, and then looked around, waving his hand: ”Go check what’s going on in that tavern?”

The subordinates immediately complied and headed towards the tavern.

Tuomu glanced at Zhao Ya again, by then Zhao Ya had already retracted her head into the carriage, and the curtain was also down.

Inside the carriage, Zhao Ya looked forlorn.

Seeing this, Molan asked, ”What’s wrong, Commandery Princess?”

Zhao Ya shook her head, and Qing Zhu on the side dared not ask further.

Molan glanced at Qing Zhu but said nothing. This girl was just a bit timid, not a bad person.

Thus, Molan didn’t ask either, and the convoy headed directly towards Cheng Garden.

Meanwhile, inside the tavern, two Imperial Guards sent by Tuomu rushed to the second floor and saw the staff clearing the plates,

The staff was startled by the sight of two officials carrying knives and asked, ”What would you like to eat, sirs?”

The two of them frowned, looked at the leftovers and wine cups on the table, and asked, ”Where are the patrons of this table?”

The staff replied, ”Gone.”

The two Imperial Guards exchanged glances and, after a careful inspection, found nothing. But since they were already there, they couldn’t leave without action. With a frown, they said, ”Well, the Commandery Princess’ convoy is entering the city, and your tavern dares to operate. You must be up to something. Take these two and the Shopkeeper to Lu’an Prefecture’s jail for questioning!”

One sentence frightened the legs of the two staff members, ending up in trouble just for being servers.

News quickly reached the Shopkeeper’s ears, and in a hurry he rushed upstairs, looking at the two Imperial Guards. He said, ”Sirs, I apologize if anything was lacking in hospitality, please forgive me!”

Upon hearing this, the two Imperial Guards exchanged a glance and pointed at the Shopkeeper, ”I suspect you are colluding with rebels, endangering the Commandery Princess. Come with us to Lu’an Prefecture’s jail.”

”Oh my, sirs, I’m innocent, really innocent!”

The Shopkeeper was so frightened by the Imperial Guards that cold sweat dripped from his forehead. He opened his mouth and shouted his innocence loudly.

The Imperial Guards didn’t care whether he was innocent or not, looking straight at the Shopkeeper, ”Cry innocence, there’ll be time for that, come, follow us to the jail and cry there slowly!”

Saying this, one of the Imperial Guards drew his blade, ready to take them away, when a quick-witted staff member stepped forward immediately, ”Sirs, sirs, there’s surely been some misunderstanding, a misunderstanding.”

”Misunderstanding?”

The two looked at this staff member, then saw the staff member take out two pieces of gold from his pocket, ”Sirs, thank you for making the trip, surely there’s been a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding.”

The two Imperial Guards looked at the gold in their hands, weighing eight taels each.

They weighed them in their hands and said, ”Hmm, you might be right, it could be a misunderstanding. Alright, withdraw the troops.”

The two exchanged looks and then looked at the bewildered Shopkeeper, ”You old fool, not as clever as the young ones. If not for them today, you would have been doomed!”

The Shopkeeper turned pale with fright, not daring to utter a word.

He just watched quietly as the two Imperial Guards departed, then turned to look at the young staff member.
