Chapter 694: Chapter 199 Chen Jiusi, don’t be unappreciative

”Help, Gang Leader, it’s, it’s raining!”

Hearing Chen Heng’s reply, Chen Jie froze and turned to look outside. The sky that had been clear was suddenly darkened, giving the impression that dark clouds were about to crush the city.

And in the distance, there were rolls of thunder.

Massive lightning streaked across the distant sky, casting the silhouette of a giant dragon.

Whooosh...

The rain began to fall, and Chen Jie and Elder Liu stepped to the doorway, raising their hand, immediately feeling raindrops slashing through the air.

Elder Liu said, ”It’s raining, once it stops, the Medicine King Treasure should appear.”

Chen Jie, lifting his head to look at the sky, said, ”It’s raining three Zhang in Mianshui...”

Elder Liu said, ”Hmm.”

Chen Jie said, ”That’s... a natural disaster!”

Chen Jie spoke with a pained expression. Usually, during the flood season, the Mianshui River rose just over one Zhang, but this time it had doubled. The people living along the river banks, the villages downstream of the Mianshui River...

A look of unbearable pain appeared on Chen Jie’s face.

Elder Liu, however, seemed unconcerned, ”It’s hard to avoid natural calamities, but while it’s a disaster for the common folk, for us, it’s an unprecedented opportunity!”

After hearing this, Chen Jie fell silent for a moment, then said, ”Old Brother Liu, I’d like to borrow Guild Cao’s channels.”

Elder Liu said, ”Hmm?”

Chen Jie said, ”I want to buy some grain, just to be prepared.”

Hearing this, Elder Liu said, ”Grain? This year, there’s a huge surplus in Huangzhou Prefecture, plenty of grain, no worries there.”

Chen Jie didn’t respond, but looked at Elder Liu, who after a long look at Chen Jie said, ”Fine, according to your wish. Luckily, I have a few major grain merchant channels in Huangzhou Prefecture. They are worried about this year’s bumper harvest, that the grain won’t sell, you can buy it at twenty percent below market price. I’ll contact them.”

Chen Jie bowed, ”Thank you, Old Brother Liu. However much grain there is, I’ll take it.”

”You can handle that much? Buying a bit for emergencies would suffice.”

Chen Jie said, ”The more I stockpile, the more peaceful my mind.”

Elder Liu, hearing this, said, ”Fine, I’ll make the contacts, but can you store so much grain? Never mind, I’ll lend you a few warehouses too, business has been slow lately, and the warehouses are sitting idle.”

”Thanks, Old Brother Liu.”

Chen Jie bowed, and Elder Liu continued, ”But Jiu Si, we should still focus on the treasure. As for the natural disaster, these days, where doesn’t some calamity strike?”

”You shouldn’t worry too much, just stockpile some grain to be safe.”

Chen Jie directly bowed and said, ”Thank you, Old Brother Liu, Jiu Si understands.”

Elder Liu said, ”Then I’ll be going.”

Chen Jie waved his hand. Chen Heng immediately picked up an oil-paper umbrella and handed it to Chen Jie.

Chen Jie then opened it and said, ”Old Brother Liu, let this shield you from the rain.”

Elder Liu nodded, took the paper umbrella, and left.

After Elder Liu left, Chen Jie looked at the dark clouds overhead and the pouring rain, frowning deeply.

”Chen Heng, summon Zhou Chu, Si Xi, Chen Wang, Uncle Zhong, and Liu Yishou to my study for a meeting!”

Upon hearing this, Chen Heng immediately said, ”Yes, Gang Leader.”

Xiao Hu wasn’t called by Chen Jie since he was in charge of combat, and this logistical matter was beyond him. And since Su Yunjin was distributing charity outside, calling him back would leave his wife unprotected.

Soon Zhou Chu, Si Xi, Chen Wang, Wu Zhong, and Liu Yishou all arrived.

Upon entering, they saw Chen Jie with a face full of worry, which startled them. They thought, what could possibly trouble the Gang Leader so?

Thinking this, they saw Chen Heng say, ”Gang Leader, everyone is here.”

Chen Jie looked at them and said, ”Everyone, sit.”

While he spoke, his eyes were fixed on the outside through the open window.

Seeing this, they all followed Chen Jie’s gaze, only to see light drizzle outside.

They didn’t understand why such light rain could cause the Gang Leader such deep concern.

Thinking this, they turned to Chen Jie and said, ”Gang Leader, you’ve called us here?”

Chen Jie turned back and said, ”Gentlemen, a natural disaster is about to hit Mianshui.”

Hmm!

Hearing this, everyone’s eyes widened, looking at Chen Jie in shock.

”A natural disaster?”

They looked at Chen Jie, disbelief written all over their faces. After all, the concept of a natural disaster was grave, and Mianshui County had enjoyed good weather for two or three years without any troubles, so why would a natural disaster suddenly arise?

Wu Zhong, the closest to Chen Jie, then said, ”Gang Leader, where did this talk of a natural disaster come from? There hasn’t been any unusual weather in Mianshui recently.”

Chen Jie lifted his head, gesturing towards the rain outside the window.

The rain outside was by no means heavy, just a light drizzle.

Wu Zhong said after a glance, ”Jiu Si, how could this light drizzle be a natural disaster?”

The others also said, ”Yeah, this rain will probably stop by tonight!”

Hearing this, Chen Jie fell silent for a moment and then said, ”What if it doesn’t stop?”

”Hmm?”

Everyone was startled upon hearing this. Not stop?

They turned to look at the still drizzling rain outside, their facial expressions slowly changing. If it didn’t stop, wouldn’t that mean a flood?

The next moment, everyone looked at Chen Jie.

”Gang Leader, no, it can’t keep raining, can it?”

Chen Jie said, ”Mianshui River rises three Zhang, the Flood Dragon hides amongst the azure clouds, Mianshui carries the dragon, treasure appears, followed by thirty years of clear skies!”

Hearing this, Liu Yishou suddenly stood up, ”Thirty years, it’s been thirty years!”

”Liu Elder, Liu Elder!”

Everyone looked towards Liu Yishou, the oldest among them, who also remembered that tumultuous event in Mianshui from years ago when he was just a young doctor, unable to forget that horrific scene in the river.
