Chapter 661: Chapter 193 Zhao Ya: I Testify for Chen 94_4

”Each of your guilds should go back and immediately mobilize people to capture Nan Batian. One cannot relax a single day until Nan Batian is captured. Do you understand?”

Upon hearing these words, the crowd saluted in unison, ”Yes, we will immediately search for Nan Batian upon our return.”

Yelu said, ”Hmm, good. That’s the first matter. The second is that the Inspection Envoy has already arrived in Mianshui.”

”The Inspection Envoy?”

Hearing this, everyone was shocked. Although everyone knew about the Inspection Envoy’s visit, no one had actually seen what the Inspection Envoy looked like, except Chen Jie.

Everyone was stunned, and Yelu continued, ”Hmm, what I want to say is that with the Inspection Envoy’s visit to Mianshui, we, as the local guilds, must show our presence. Otherwise, if the Inspection Envoy Lord finds any fault with you, even I would be unable to defend you. Therefore, after this meeting, each person should voluntarily donate five thousand taels of silver as a gift to the Inspection Envoy Lord.”

”That shouldn’t be a problem, should it?”

Yelu inquired. After hearing his words, the crowd was stunned again. Asking for money, five thousand taels—Yelu was really taking things to the extreme.

Five thousand taels—probably half of it would actually reach the Inspection Envoy Lord’s hands, which would suggest Yelu had some conscience.

Thinking this, everyone had no choice but to say, ”Yes, we will follow the Lord’s command.”

Yelu heard the words and said, ”Hey, hey, let me make it clear in advance, this is completely voluntary. No coercion; anyone willing to donate can, and those not willing don’t have to. No pressure, no pressure...”

After hearing Yelu’s words, everyone looked at each other with helpless expressions. No coercion—yes, if you don’t coerce, who would dare not to pay?

Yelu was very satisfied with the crowd’s recognition of the situation. He then glanced at Chen Jie and turned to Zhou Peng, ”Gentlemen, the third matter is to introduce our future Beggar Sect Gang Leader of Mianshui, Zhou Peng.”

Zhou Peng, having his name called, immediately stood up, understanding his cue.

The crowd, upon seeing this, did not understand what Yelu was angling at. Then they heard Yelu speak, ”Zhou Peng, the new Gang Leader of the Beggar Sect, will continue to manage the original territory of the Beggar Sect in South City. Also, Jiu Si!”

Chen Jie, being called out by Yelu, immediately saluted, ”Lord Yelu.”

Yelu smiled and said, ”Jiu Si, since Zhou Peng is succeeding the position of the old beggar as Gang Leader, shouldn’t some of the old beggar’s belongings be returned to him?”

Upon hearing this, the crowd unanimously turned their gaze toward Chen Jie.

Because they all knew, Chen Jie had learned the old beggar’s Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms—Yelu’s words were clearly a request for Chen Jie to hand over the Hand Technique.

Chen Jie stood up, saluted, and said, ”I understand what Lord Yelu means. This is the secret manual for the fourth palm of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, Dragon Fighting in the Wilderness.”

Chen Jie pulled out a folded piece of paper from his chest.

The crowd, upon seeing this, shook their heads in resignation. Indeed, might makes right—even someone like Chen Jiusi, faced with Yelu’s coercion, had to dutifully hand over the secret manual of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms.

And then, Chen Jie placed the secret manual for the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms right before Yelu’s eyes.

”Lord, please inspect it.”

Chen Jie stepped back, and Yelu looked at the folded paper on the table, a smile spreading across his face.

Chen Jiusi was still sensible!

Thus, he smiled and said, ”Chen Jiusi, you’ve done well. Since that’s the case, I shall pass this Hand Technique to Zhou Peng in your name!”

However, unexpectedly, as soon as he finished speaking, Chen Jie placed his hand on the paper and looked at Yelu, ”What did the Lord say?”

Yelu furrowed his brows and replied, ”What do you mean?”

”I just wanted to ask what did you say, Lord?”

Yelu said with a frown, ”I said, I would transfer this Hand Technique to Zhou Peng on your behalf.”

”That won’t do.”

Chen Jie flatly refused. Yelu asked, ”What do you mean ’won’t do’?”

Chen Jie explained, ”I mean, if Lord Yelu wants this Hand Technique secret manual, I shall offer it willingly, but if Zhou Peng wants it, I absolutely cannot give it to him!”

”Hmm?”

Upon hearing this, Yelu’s expression darkened and he asked, ”Why not?”

Chen Jie responded, ”You, Lord, are worth giving it to—I am a subject of Daqian, and you are an official of Daqian; it is only right for me to give it to you. But he has no right to my Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms!”

”Hmm?”

Yelu’s face lightened slightly as he looked at Chen Jie and inquired.

”He’s the successor of the old beggar. Why shouldn’t he be entitled to the old beggar’s Hand Technique?”

Chen Jie replied, ”He isn’t! If he were the old beggar’s successor, he would have the right to inherit the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms. But he isn’t. Just now, Guild Leader Liu asked him if the Beggar Sect was being revived, and he categorically stated he was of the new Beggar Sect and had nothing to do with the old beggar.”

”Since he himself claimed no relation to the old beggar, I, having inherited the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms from the old beggar, cannot give it to him; otherwise, what would I be? Would I not be failing to discern right from wrong?”

”Of course, Lord Yelu, if you would like it, please take it. I will have no complaints!”

Chen Jie gestured toward the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms’ secret manual on the table, indicating Yelu could take it.

At this point, Yelu was in a difficult position. His original goal had been to take advantage of Zhou Peng’s status as the Beggar Sect’s Gang Leader to force Chen Jie to hand over the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, which Zhou Peng would then return to him, so that he would not be reneging on his word.

This pure and simple posturing was because the previous night he had made a vow that he harbored no covetous desires toward Chen Jiusi’s Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms.

That vow had been heard by the five or six hundred people present at the time, and Yelu, concerned about his reputation and considering himself a gentleman, how could he go back on his word?

If he were to ask for the secret manual of the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms from Chen Jie just one night later...
