Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chen Jie hurried back home. He didn’t know why, but after hearing about Cui’er jumping into a well in Upper Peach Village, he had a bad feeling in his heart.

He hadn’t even eaten well at the Bai Family’s house and rushed back in a hurry.

Sure enough, he hadn’t even reached the doorstep when Chen Jie saw that quite a few people had gathered at his house.

Chen Jie was startled, *Could something have happened?*

With this thought, Chen Jie quickly ran towards his home.

Meanwhile, in the small courtyard of Chen Jie’s house, Ma Liu sat in a chair, unabashedly eyeing Su Yunjin.

No doubt about it, the woman the Young Master fancied had to be something special.

Even in worn-out clothes, her beauty couldn’t be concealed.

If only he could have a little fun with her, now that would be something. *After the Young Master’s morning class, could it be possible to let me have a go too? If so, I wouldn’t even care about the morning class reward.*

*It’s really hard to imagine how such a beautiful woman ended up with a useless guy like Chen Jiusi, and Jiusi constantly treated her with disdain, always either hitting or scolding. Isn’t that a waste?*

Ma Liu shamelessly scrutinized Su Yunjin.

Su Yunjin felt uncomfortable all over, so she positioned herself in front of Ruirui, who was so scared that he was hiding behind Su Yunjin, too afraid to move.

Upon seeing this scene, Uncle Erba, who had rushed over upon hearing the commotion, stepped forward to ask, ”Ma Liu, what are you doing here?”

Ma Liu glanced at Uncle Erba and said, ”Oh, Chen Quezi, I’m here to collect a debt! Where’s Chen Jiusi? Tell him to come out.”

”Ma Liu, watch your mouth. My father and your father are of the same generation, so you should call him uncle!”

Xiao Hu, upon hearing Ma Liu’s words, asked angrily.

Ma Liu ignored him and looked at Chen Erba, saying, ”Call me uncle? Fine. Bring Chen Jiusi over here and pay up, then you’ll still be uncle to me. Otherwise, I won’t even recognize my own father!”

”You!”

Chen Erba was infuriated by Ma Liu, and at this moment, Ma Liu also looked at Su Yunjin and said, ”Sister-in-law, let Chen Jiusi come out. I’ve been waiting for an hour.”

Su Yunjin said, ”I’ve already told you he went to Doctor Bai’s house as an apprentice.”

”Ha, he can be an apprentice to Doctor Bai? Him? Alright, stop lying. Just pay up. I don’t care what he wants to be. He could even be a turtle, and I wouldn’t care, right, brothers?”

Ma Liu turned and spoke to the few henchmen behind him.

”Right.”

The henchmen responded.

...

Amidst the chaos inside the courtyard, the onlookers outside were asking around.

”What’s happening?”

”Debt collection. It seems like Chen Jiusi owed a high-interest loan outside.”

”No way, hasn’t Chen Jiusi turned over a new leaf?”

”Hmph, as if he could change.”

Hearing everyone’s talk, Chen Sanliu watched the scene with his arms crossed, a look of schadenfreude on his face.

*Serves him right. He’s been swaggering around for days. This is his payback.*

Not far away, Lu San, with a crippled leg, arrived with the help of Lu Qinshi to watch the show. Upon hearing of Chen Jie’s misfortune, Lu San felt completely rejuvenated, bouncing a hundred or so meters without tiring.

At this moment, leaning against the wall to watch, his eyes were full of hatred. *Chen Jiusi is finally in trouble.*

As more people gathered, Su Yunjin’s face turned grim. *Could it be that Chen Jiusi had just straightened out but is now reverting?*

*But our peaceful days had just begun, only lasting two days. If this is a dream, it’s too short. Am I going to fall back into Hell again?*

”Sister, what about brother-in-law...”

Ruirui clutched his sister’s sleeve.

Chen Erba looked at Su Yunjin and said, ”Yunjin, Jiusi hasn’t had time to gamble in the past few days, so he probably didn’t owe it recently. Don’t worry, let me ask first.”

With this thought, Uncle Erba walked over to Ma Liu and asked, ”Ma Liu, when did Jiusi owe this money?”

Ma Liu replied, ”It’s been about a month or two.”

Upon hearing this, both Chen Erba and Su Yunjin breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t in the last two days, which at least proved that Jiusi’s reform was real, not a trick to deceive them.

Uncle Erba asked, ”So, how much does he actually owe?”

”Why, are you going to help pay?”

Ma Liu looked at Uncle Erba, to which Uncle Erba replied, ”Yes.”

Ma Liu took out the IOU, showed it briefly, and Uncle Erba looked at Su Yunjin, as he couldn’t read.

Su Yunjin went over to take a look and immediately sighed with relief.

”How much, dear?”

Uncle Erba asked, and with a face showing some joy, Su Yunjin said, ”One tael of silver.”

”One tael, good. Hu Zi, go home and get the money.”

”Okay.”

Hu Zi responded with a nod.

But Su Yunjin said, ”Uncle Erba, there’s no need for that much. I have eight maces. Just lend me two maces, and it’ll be enough.”

”Oh, alright then.”

Uncle Erba said, and prepared to send Hu Zi to get the money.

Seeing the two acting this way, Ma Liu burst into laughter, ”Haha, one tael of silver, do you... you really think it’s just one tael?”

”Look here, this IOU was made on March 2nd, in the ninth year of Zhizheng. It’s already May; that’s two months, adding interest.”

Ma Liu looked at Su Yunjin and Uncle Erba.

Upon hearing this, both of their faces froze, and Uncle Erba quickly asked Ma Liu, ”Then, how much is it now?”

Ma Liu laughed, ”Not much, with compound interest on top of compound interest, it’s only... twenty taels!”

”How much?!!”

Upon hearing this, the eyeballs of both Uncle Erba and Su Yunjin nearly popped out of their sockets, twenty taels!

Twenty taels!

”How could it have increased so much!”

Neither of them could believe it, and the people outside were also wide-eyed. *Twenty taels, damn, even selling the entire Chen Family wouldn’t bring that much.*

Meanwhile, Lu San outside almost set off fireworks in celebration. *Serves him right, Chen Jiusi finally got what he deserved.*

*Satisfying!*

Upon hearing this, Su Yunjin could barely stand, her body swayed.

Seeing this, Ma Liu moved to support her, but Su Yunjin quickly evaded him, turning pale as she immediately said, ”Twenty taels, we’ll sell everything we have to pay!”

Ma Liu replied, ”Hmm, better hurry up, or the amount will go up again tomorrow!”

Su Yunjin looked at Ma Liu in despair, while Ma Liu chuckled and said, ”Sister-in-law, what’s with that look?”

Su Yunjin asked, ”What if we can’t pay?”

Ma Liu approached her with a smirk and said, ”If you can’t pay, we’ll take everything valuable, and break his limbs, leaving him crippled.”

Su Yunjin’s face instantly turned ashen.

Ma Liu’s eyes glinted maliciously as he gazed at Su Yunjin and said, ”Sister-in-law, you wouldn’t want your man to become a cripple, would you?”

”Actually, I have a plan. As long as you’re willing, forget the twenty-tael interest, you wouldn’t even need to pay back the principal. What do you think?”

”Do... what?”

Su Yunjin seemed to understand and looked at Ma Liu, her face turning pale.

Ma Liu wore a smile and was about to speak when suddenly a voice carried over.

”Oh, Brother Ma Liu is here. Why didn’t you let me know sooner so I could welcome you properly!”

Upon hearing the voice, everyone looked over and saw Chen Jie slowly walking in from the main gate, gazing at Ma Liu with a smile on his face.

Seeing Chen Jie, Su Yunjin breathed a sigh of relief.

*Jiu Si, you’re finally back!*
