Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

After some exercise, covered in sweat, Su Yunjin finished making breakfast.

Chen Jie also completed his morning practice for the day, and Su Yunjin brought him a basin of warm water and gently handed over a towel.

”Thank you for your hard work.”

Chen Jie smiled and said to Su Yunjin, and Su Yunjin returned a sweet smile.

Chen Jie was drawn to her smile, yet her face was red…

”Why is your face red? You’re not sick, are you?”

Chen Jie asked with concern, and naturally touched Su Yunjin’s forehead with the back of his hand, which still radiated the warmth from his workout and masculine energy.

This made Su Yunjin feel hot once again and she fled into the house.

”I, I’ll go wake up Ruirui!”

Then she dashed away and was out of sight in no time.

”What’s up with her today?”

*Chen Jie muttered to himself,* and started to wipe his body. At eighteen, he was still a bit thin, but because of this thinness, he didn’t have the beer belly or waist fat he did in his past life, which was a good thing.

”Still too skinny, need to eat more meat, take in more protein, and strive to train my body into muscle.”

*Chen Jie thought to himself,* wiping off the sweat, put away the towel, and got dressed.

On the other side, Su Yunjin also woke up little Daisy, who rubbed her sleepy eyes and seeing Chen Jie already groomed, said, ”Brother-in-law, you’re up early today, are you going to the mountains?”

Upon hearing this, Su Yunjin also looked at Chen Jie with concern.

The hills behind the house were not safe, usually no one dared to go up there casually because there were wolves, and some even said there were tigers.

Previously, people going up the mountains were often eaten by wild animals; unless they were extremely desperate, few would willingly go up there.

Chen Jie said, ”I won’t go today.”

”Okay then.”

Su Yunjin breathed a sigh of relief, while little Daisy was a bit disappointed, as in her simple mind, going into the mountains was like entering a treasure trove, where you could pick rabbits and other delicious things at will.

The reason Chen Jie chose not to go was because intelligence indicated that Doctor Bai would come today to recruit him as an apprentice. Wasn’t his struggle yesterday all for this moment?

At such a crucial moment, he couldn’t afford any distractions, so he decided to wait.

After breakfast, Chen Jie practiced the Yang Chun Skill again. This Yang Chun Skill was truly impressive, every cycle gave Chen Jie new insights, occasionally a seemingly insignificant spot might have a big impact on some organ of the body.

After one cycle of the Yang Chun Skill, Chen Jie stood up comfortably, just as someone knocked on the door outside.

This immediately caught Chen Jie’s attention, as well as that of the neighbors.

When people saw who knocked on the Chen family’s door, everyone was stunned. How could it be her!

Doctor Bai’s daughter, the wife of the Fishery Manager Wu Zhong, the most prestigious woman in Xiantao Town, without a doubt!

Of course, the last statement was a joke, but not entirely untrue.

In Xiantao Town, the most powerful people were two, one representing the Fishing Guild, fishery Wu Zhong, and the other representing Guild Cao, Yu Biao of Yu’s Treasure House.

Thus, the most respected women are their wives.

But don’t forget, Wu Zhong was considered an in-law, his rise to power largely relied on his father-in-law Bai Wenjing’s connections in the Fishing Guild, hence Bai’s high status in the Wu Family.

Wu Zhong was also very grateful to both his wife and father-in-law, showing considerable respect.

But Yu Biao wasn’t the same. Yu Biao came from the County’s Guild Cao and built all his family’s property by himself. Therefore, he didn’t care much for his wife; he even had three concubines.

Thus, Yu Biao’s wife couldn’t compare to Bai.

Now Bai was knocking on Chen Jiusi’s door, which immediately piqued the gossip interest of the onlookers.

”Creak~”

The door opened, and Chen Jie poked his head out to see Bai, understanding in his heart that his opportunity had come. However, his expression was first startled, then followed by joy as he said, ”Aunt Bai, what brings you here? Yunjin, heat some water and brew some good tea...”

Bai was satisfied with Chen Jie’s attitude, smiled, and said, ”Hehehe, Jiu Si, no need to trouble yourself, I just came to give you a fish and then I’ll be on my way.”

Chen Jie said, ”Oh dear, Aunt, how can I take a fish from you for no reason!”

Bai furrowed her brows and said, ”You silly child, what’s ’for no reason’? If it weren’t for you yesterday, our old master’s life would have been in danger. Besides, it’s not something of great value. My husband may have no other skills, but getting a fish is no big deal.”

Chen Jie wanted to say more, but Bai said, ”Are you going to let Aunt stand here holding it?”

Chen Jie was helpless and could only reach out to accept the big carp Bai handed over. It really was heavy, weighing about seven or eight pounds.

Chen Jie invited Bai into the house, and Su Yunjin and little Daisy came out to stand at the door to greet her, while little Daisy couldn’t take her eyes off the big fish.

She was drooling with greed, unable to look away.

Su Yunjin noticed and patted little Daisy, thinking she shouldn’t embarrass herself like this, but little Daisy didn’t care. In her mind, she was already imagining the big carp in the pot.

”Ah, so this is Yunjin, she has indeed grown into a beautiful woman.”

”Aunt.”

Su Yunjin quickly forced a smile and then tugged at little Daisy. While little Daisy was greedy, she wasn’t stupid, and upon being tugged, she quickly chirped, ”Aunt Bai!”

”Oh, what a cute little one you are.”

Bai affectionately pinched little Daisy’s cheek and then entered the house. Su Yunjin hadn’t boiled the water yet, and there were only rice bowls left for drinking, let alone teacups.

It appeared somewhat awkward.

Bai noticed how simple the house was but said nothing, only taking a look at Su Yunjin. For a young lady of scholarly background to live such a hard life was not easy.

After a few pleasantries, Bai stated her purpose.

”Jiu Si, our old master is getting on in years, and he was hurt yesterday. The clinic needs an apprentice to help. Are you interested?”

When Bai said this, except for little Daisy who had no reaction, Su Yunjin and Chen Jie’s eyes lit up.

There was an adage in ancient society: Not a prime minister, then a famous physician.

A doctor’s social status has never been low, and just two days ago, Chen Jie was a degenerate gambler. Even if he turned over a new leaf, their family had no farmland, and if he continued down that path, at best he would become an idle village man.

But being an apprentice to Doctor Bai was different. In a few years, Chen Jie could practice medicine and improve their lives significantly.

This was a huge opportunity! To think it would fall upon her husband today, truly her mother-in-law in the heavens must be watching over and blessing the family.

Su Yunjin was already thrilled beyond words, and although Chen Jie knew from the information that he would be taken as an apprentice, he was also excited because the first step of his life’s plan had succeeded!
