Father Lin: Have you been doing well lately?

Lin Yanke: Mm-hmm.

Father Lin: Did you eat before coming back?

Lin Yanke: No.

Father Lin: That’s great, just in time for dinner. Shall we eat?

Lin Yanke: Sure.

Father Lin: Dear, our daughter is hungry, let’s serve the dishes.

Isn’t this a bunch of nonsense!

As the atmosphere became more tense, Lin Yanke spoke first to break the ice: ”Dad, I’ve prepared a Purification Talisman for you. Use it when you’re tired; it’ll help your muscles relax. This is a Purifying Talisman, use it when you have troubling thoughts that keep you awake; and this one is...”

While speaking, she handed over a thick stack of yellow talisman paper.

Father Lin casually took them and, with just a glance, saw no less than forty or fifty sheets with varying functions. His eyes immediately reddened: ”Good, good, you’ve thought of us, dear.”

”...”

But soon after, silence fell again.

Just then, the kitchen door opened, and Lin’s Mother called out, ”You two stop dawdling, dinner’s ready, come help with the dishes.”

”Alright.”

Lin Yanke quickly got up to help in the kitchen, and Father Lin also stood up, exhaling with relief as if he’d survived an ordeal.

...

”Auntie, I’m not exaggerating, your cooking skills could easily earn you a place at Donglaishun. This braised Seven Star Grouper is just fantastic, how did you make it so delicious?”

Lin Baiwei’s expression and tone were exaggerated, eyes darting around, trying to enliven the dining table.

Lin’s Mother looked at the still slightly reserved Lin Yanke and spoke warmly: ”It’s just the usual braising method. The key is the batter; this grouper has tender meat, and if the batter isn’t done well, it can easily affect the taste, making it inconsistent.”

Lin Baiwei tilted her head, playfully saying, ”Well, regardless, Auntie’s cooking is the best in the world!”

As she spoke, she turned to Lin Yanke, smiling: ”Isn’t that right, cousin?”

”Oh, it’s quite tasty.” Lin Yanke picked up a piece of meat and praised as well.

”Let’s eat more since it’s delicious. Dear, don’t just focus on eating yourself, put the fish in front of the kids.”

”Alright.”

”What kind of attitude is that! If you don’t want to serve, don’t do it, no one’s forcing you!”

”Ah, I...”

”What do you mean ’I’? I’m telling you, I won’t serve you anymore unless our daughter is home. You’ll have to cook or eat instant noodles yourself!”

The atmosphere at the dining table gradually became harmonious, and Lin Yanke relaxed, chatting and even joking with the family.

After the meal, Lin Baiwei took her cousin out for a walk.

After they left, the living room fell silent again.

A while later, Elder Lin, leaning on the main sofa, slowly said with a comforting tone: ”Yanke is a good kid. She hasn’t been home much over the years, but it’s clear she still cares about this family.”

Father Lin held the stack of talisman paper, sighing similarly: ”Yeah, Yanke is a good kid...”

But before he could finish, Elder Lin abruptly exclaimed: ”If only you were half as good as her, I wouldn’t worry about our Lin Family faltering after I’m gone.”

”Dad, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Father Lin and Lin’s Mother panicked, quickly standing up to take Elder Lin to the hospital.

”I’m perfectly fine. Sit down, all of you.”

Elder Lin waved his hand to indicate for them to sit, and then sighed before saying: ”With the Spiritual Qi Revival and a new era approaching, you should be aware of this.”

Father Lin and Lin’s Mother nodded. It was hard to hide this news; almost everyone with connections knew.

Just as they were wondering why Elder Lin was bringing this up, his next words stunned them:

”Dragon Country plans to establish Jixia Academy to gather talents from all over the world in response to future challenges.”

”The Little Daoist from Changchun Temple will be the first Sacrificial Officer of the Academy.”

”Your daughter, Lin Yanke, has been appointed directly by the higher-ups without any need for testing or selection, and will serve as the first Dean of the Talisman College.”

The teacher of all ages!

This was the last thought Father Lin and Lin’s Mother had before losing their minds.
