Ning An's Wild Wish System

As soon as I walked in, I saw Father Yang engrossed in watching TV. I leaned in for a look, and sure enough, it was the Olympic Games soccer match.

”Dad, what’s there to watch? Even if you watch for eight hundred years, Dragon Country’s soccer won’t improve.” Yang Anbang casually picked up a pear and said nonchalantly.

”Hey, you kid, what if? They doubled the quota now, so there’s still a big chance,” Mother Yang chimed in with a smile.

”That’s nonsense, unless Dragon Country hosts the Olympics again so we can qualify directly as the host country. Otherwise, forget it.” Yang Anbang chewed on a pear, his tone full of disdain.

”Cherish the moment. There may not be such grand events in the future.”

Father Yang shook his head and called out, ”Aunt Wang, prepare the dishes.”

”Alright,” Aunt Wang responded and hurried to the kitchen.

Yang Anbang brightened up and sat next to Father Yang excitedly, ”Our share is here?”

”Yes, we got thirteen pounds.”

”What? Only thirteen pounds? Who can eat that? I could finish it in two days.” Yang Anbang dropped the pear core and complained.

”What do you know! The Wang Family next door only got twenty pounds. The yield per acre isn’t high. We’ve got quite a good share,” Father Yang scolded.

”The Wang Family got only that much?”

Yang Anbang stopped complaining immediately.

The Wang Family next door, their great-grandfather also marched through tough times, held a higher position than his own great-grandfather, and never took sides back in the day. For years, they’ve been a staple in politics.

And considering the Wang Family’s share isn’t much more than theirs, there’s nothing for him to complain about.

Yet, he was quiet for less than a minute before reaching for the pear again. ”This share - is it set for the system in the future, or?”

Father Yang shook his head, ”It’s uncertain for now. Too many variables. Who knows what the future holds? If there’s a system, great. If not, we’ll serve the people.”

Yang Anbang chewed on the pear and sighed, ”This gives me the feeling of the old days you told me about when you used ration tickets to get food back in your childhood, kinda like that.”

”It’s odd that now life’s better, yet we feel like we’re going back.”

Father Yang pointed at him, laughing and looking at Mother Yang, ”This kid, never showed such memory while studying, yet remembers these things clearly.”

Mother Yang laughed too, the family of three enjoying a moment of warmth and happiness.

Soon, with a glance from Mother Yang, Aunt Wang, who had been waiting, started serving the food.

Unlike the usual four dishes and a soup, today’s lunch was more like a diet meal.

Broccoli led the way, followed by steamed beef, and lastly, three bowls of corn porridge.

Simple enough, but the corn porridge was so watery that it reflected light, a few corn kernels floating on top, looking rather pitiful.

Aunt Wang couldn’t help but complain, ”Even if you’re having diet meals, you can’t eat so little. This is too plain. Which unreliable person gave this menu? It’s not scientific at all!”

Simply not about science!

”Fed up with the greasy food usually on the table.”

Father Yang took the porridge and said with a smile, ”Just a chance for this kid to see how we used to eat in the past. Often careless, just a chance to appreciate past hardships and sweetness.”

”I can’t ensure appreciation, but Anbang still needs to eat enough.” Aunt Wang said as she walked away, reminding, ”If there’s not enough, call me; don’t let the kid go hungry.”

”Okay, got it.”

After Aunt Wang left the living room, the family of three finally picked up the corn porridge, exchanged glances filled with cunning.

They had no choice, not that they intended to hide, but there was too little. They were fearful too.

”Drink!”

With Father Yang’s command, everyone couldn’t help but feel excited as they tasted a sip.

No difference in taste from regular corn porridge, but with an added sweetness, not as rich as milk but endlessly flavorful.

In just a blink, they felt a warmth in their stomachs flowing to all corners of their bodies.

This feeling was akin to someone with kidney deficiency drinking goji wine, yet lacked the burst of explosive sensation, rather serene and gentle like moonlight.

This enchanting feeling captivated them. Coming to their senses, everyone’s eyes were wide with shock.

In all those years, what kind of supplements hadn’t they tried?

But none could match even one ten-thousandth of this effect.

The feeling, if one were to describe, could only be summed up: Such a sensation should only exist in the heavens, scarcely sensed a few times on earth!

The Yang Clan, although not known for extravagance, certainly wouldn’t drink every bit of millet porridge clean, and if even a grain fell to the ground, they’d blow it clean to eat it.

This attitude towards food, if Grandpa Yuan knew, he might smile contentedly.

Like a whirlwind, the food disappeared quickly.

But contrary to Aunt Wang’s expectations, nobody found themselves hungry.

Instead, everyone was sprawled around, looking as if they were stuffed.

”Burp~”

After a long time, Yang Anbang managed to sit up, feeling the changes within, his expression of joy mixed with sorrow.

”Such wonderful food, and I ate this little only to feel stuffed. I’m useless!”

Father Yang weakly said, ”You’re actually doing well. Those soldiers at the research base eat about the same amount as you. That’s good.”

”Unless they’re professionals, even a strongman coming would only be slightly better.”

Hearing this, Yang Anbang paused, then said, ”Dad, remember I told you my friend knows an expert? I’m thinking of checking that out, giving it a try.”

”I think you’re not trying, but looking to get killed.”

Father Yang snorted, ”Dragon Country’s more than fifty thousand registered Daoists are essentially under surveillance by the Supernatural Bureau. The official stance is clear we shouldn’t get involved. If you go, not even the heavens could bail you out.”

”I know, I’m not dumb. I understand the basics.”

Yang Anbang chuckled, ”The expert I mentioned isn’t a Daoist, but a Lama Monk.”

”A Monk?”

Mother Yang laughed and scolded, ”Is this home lacking food or drink for you, making you want to become a monk?”

Father Yang’s attitude softened hearing the two words, ”Just as long as it’s not a Daoist. Monks are fine.”

”Why does the government monitor only Daoists and not care about monks?” Yang Anbang was very curious.

”This comes down to entry-level issues.”

Father Yang snickered, ”Entering the Daoist Family comes down to possessing spirit roots. It means your body just needs no major problems to enter, just varies in time.”

”But those monks are different. Their entry relies on wisdom roots. No matter how great your natural talent, without so-called wisdom roots, you can’t enter.”

”And this so-called wisdom root, more mysterious even than spiritual qi. Spiritual qi can somewhat be physically represented. Wisdom roots lack form, those monks can’t explain it.”

”Entering based on this is as tough as ascending to heaven, coupled with the fact Dragon Country’s registered monks and nuns exceed two hundred thousand and non-registered followers are skyrocketing. They can’t manage it all, the Supernatural Bureau’s fortunate to watch over well-known temples.”

Yang Anbang, after hearing this, didn’t say much, just sneered, ”Hmph, this can’t be hidden; they’re just kidding themselves.”

Father Yang glared, ”We’ll see when the day comes. Until then, keep to yourself, don’t get too chummy with registered Daoists!”

”Got it, I know the importance.”

After a few more idle chats, Yang Anbang left, but compared to when he arrived, he now carried with him a small bag of glutinous corn.

From childhood, Yang Anbang may not have been great at academics, but in dealing with people, you couldn’t fault him, so Father Yang didn’t ask much.

If he asked even a bit more, Yang Anbang might have found himself overwhelmed.

Because the expert Yang Anbang referred to resides in Z City.
