Chapter 2599: Chapter 2599: Secure the Grain First, Investigate Later

They want to bring down the grain prices, but it’s undoubtedly a pipe dream.

”At worst, just buy the grain at the original price, the master can still earn a lot. The key is, this batch of grain must not fall into others’ hands.”

A companion reminded him.

They already held quite a bit of grain, though for the entire Northern Lands, it was a drop in the ocean.

But if this batch of grain in others’ hands is sold cheaper than theirs, the grain they hold would be stuck, unable to be sold.

Grain is unlike other things; if kept too long, it becomes even harder to sell.

”That’s what they say, but...”

Lord Qi paused in his words, finally only able to sigh.

”I don’t even know who stands behind Master Ji, to have such a large quantity of grain. There hasn’t been any news from other places about people collecting grain.

Could it be that those people collected the grain in advance?”

”How is that possible?”

The companion chuckled, who could have foreseen the Northland drought?

Although droughts erupt in the Northern Lands from time to time, they’re not fixed. Even the royal court couldn’t prepare grain in advance, let alone private individuals.

”Brother Qi, you’re overthinking it. They must have acquired the grain from elsewhere,” he said.

”It’s precisely because it’s from elsewhere that I want to investigate properly!”

Lord Qi took a deep breath and pounded the table forcefully. If not for the Governor’s instruction to buy that batch of grain quickly, he would definitely investigate where they got their grain first.

”There’s still time to investigate after we get the grain,” the companion said.

He also wanted to investigate. Such a large batch of grain, even the royal court doesn’t have it. Who wouldn’t be curious about where the grain came from?

”Just wait, Master Ji knows we are here. He’ll definitely rush over,” he said.

First, buy the grain and then find out where it’s from. He couldn’t understand which part of the Daqing Kingdom could produce such an amount of grain.

...

More than half an hour had passed, and the two were still waiting in the living room without anyone coming to greet them.

Master Ji, after returning to the residence, didn’t go to see them immediately. Instead, he first calculated how to make them buy the grain at once.

”Lord Secret Guard, please spread a message in the city, saying that I’m hosting some distinguished guests at my home,” he stood up and said to the secret guard beside him.

”Alright.”

The secret guard said nothing more. Whatever Master Ji said, they did. Anyway, they were sent by the prince to assist Master Ji. As long as all the grain could be sold for money, it didn’t matter whose orders they followed.

”Phew!”

Master Ji exhaled only after the secret guard left.

Now, it was time to see those two guests who came to discuss business. He wondered whether they brought money.

He guessed they probably hadn’t, because there hadn’t been any reports from the city gate about large sums of money entering Guangye City. For such large transactions, if it were only silver certificates, everyone knew the deal wouldn’t be made.

”Let’s go see them.”

Even if it can’t be negotiated now, it could be settled in the next day or two.

...

In the living room, the two continued to wait.

With the arrival of Master Ji, two servants brought up tea and snacks again.
