Chapter 2567: Chapter 2567: Something Big Has Happened

”Retribution should have come long ago, but it’s a pity it’s only happening now.”

In that person’s view, losing just a few barrels of water wasn’t really any kind of retribution. Just wait, by tomorrow there will surely be the same amount of water here, just waiting for them to trade grain.

But, who has that much grain? If it wasn’t for the fact that their household really had no water and was desperately thirsty, who would bring out their last remaining grain to trade for water?

These people truly lack compassion!

The people trading water for grain watched as the water in the large wooden barrels became less while more water spilled onto the ground, feeling both angry and anxious in their hearts.

But no matter how anxious they were, there was nothing they could do, they couldn’t chase the villagers away, nor could they stop the leaks.

Especially when they were pushed aside by the villagers and couldn’t even get near the barrels, ”What do we do, what do we do?”

Now it’s not a question of the water in the large barrels spilling or not, but whether the villagers, having tasted this benefit, would rush and snatch their water tomorrow, the day after, or in the days to come.

For villagers suffering severe water shortages, this isn’t impossible anymore.

People are dying of thirst; who cares whose water it is right now? Just grab it and drink first; who would think about the consequences?

”You... you bunch of troublemakers!”

”Qing, Qing, hurry, go and call people over,” one of the grain collectors shouted to the man beside him.

”Okay, I’ll go right away.”

The man called Qing acknowledged and immediately ran off.

”Dad, Dad, that man left, should we follow him?” Qian Yinuo’s eyes were sharp and immediately noticed the man who went to get reinforcements, reminding his dad.

Qian Jiyun had already anticipated this. From the grain collector’s perspective, incidents of villagers rushing to drink water should not happen.

Because once it happens, it can’t be stopped. The villagers wouldn’t care where the grain collectors’ water came from, as long as they could drink it, why wouldn’t they?

”Let’s go see, son.”

He said, carrying his son, and followed Qing.

...

Not long after, outside a not-so-large courtyard, Qing’s voice rang out.

”Manager, manager, something’s wrong, something big happened.”

With his voice echoing into the courtyard, a middle-aged man in a blue short robe emerged from a room, holding a tobacco pipe, and squinted at Qing.

”What’s going on, why are you in a panic? Was the grain collection not going smoothly today?” he asked.

In his view, it wasn’t a big deal if the grain collection wasn’t going well. After all, the city was still distributing water; they could wait until the city’s wells ran dry and then use water to collect grain. By then, they would certainly collect a lot of grain.

It didn’t matter if they missed a little bit today; anyway, when the time came, they could sell all their water.

”No, no.”

Qing, one hand on his hip, panted heavily and pointed at the manager, shaking his head.

”The water, our water’s been stolen, manager, our water’s been taken!”

”What?!”

Upon hearing this, the manager’s face immediately darkened.

What kind of bastard dared to steal his water? Even the authorities wouldn’t interfere with his grain collection, turning a blind eye because they knew he had backing.

”Who dared to challenge the authorities? Did you catch them?” he asked.
