Raising My Children With My Personal Spatial Ability

Chapter 2488: Chapter 2488: That Bastard Lied to Me

He truly regretted it. Without these fields, his family would lose one of their primary sources of income.

”What, our land can’t be registered under the scholar’s name anymore? Why is that? Ke didn’t mention it to us,” the man immediately changed his expression upon hearing this.

How could he not have heard about such a thing? Could it be that he left too early this morning and Qing Ke didn’t have time to tell him?

”No way, we need to go back and ask what’s going on!”

Saying this, he hurriedly turned around and strode away, completely ignoring the scholar who was trying to speak with him.

Meeting a scholar or two didn’t matter, but the land involved their family’s livelihood. If taxes had to be paid to the county government, the family’s income would certainly be reduced.

”Brother Qing Ke didn’t tell them? Could he be waiting to say something until after the wheat is harvested?” An Que’s eyes were filled with more doubt.

The wheat would be ready for harvest in a few days. If Brother Qing Ke really wanted to gain some advantage from their relatives, it would make sense.

But...

The Qing Ke he knew wasn’t like that.

Moreover, Brother Ziyu came to inform him with such urgency. Brother Qing Ke couldn’t be completely unworried, could he?

Even if he wanted to hold off, he would at least inform everyone so they’d be mentally prepared, wouldn’t he? Unless this matter wasn’t true!

”Damn it, could that scoundrel Ziyu be deceiving me?”

He suddenly thought of this possibility and cursed under his breath.

Brother Ziyu had always considered himself full of righteousness. Even when taking the imperial exams, he always talked about serving the country. He never talked about bringing glory to the family.

Could this person think he’s collecting too much grain from the villagers and, therefore, is scheming to have him return the land?

”If that’s really the case, then it’s over!”

He knew very well that the grain he collected from those villagers was far more than what needed to be handed over to the county government. If the government’s official came to collect taxes after the wheat harvest, wouldn’t his scheme be exposed?

If that happened, it would be impossible to register those villagers’ land under his name next time.

”No, we need to catch up with the Chief!”

Saying this, without further thought, he chased after Cun Tian, hoping that the Chief’s ox cart would be slow enough for him to catch up. As long as he retrieved the field deeds and land deeds from the Chief, there would be no problem.

At the most, he’d go to the county government himself and inquire whether what Brother Ziyu said was true. If it was, he could still return the land to the villagers in time.

At this moment, he truly regretted why he had to be in such a hurry to settle this matter.

He jogged while silently cursing himself for being foolish!

However, he couldn’t understand why Brother Ziyu, who was generally close to him, would set him up this way. Even if he was dissatisfied, why couldn’t he just tell him directly?

Why did he have to act secretly and put him in such an unjust position?

”Fortunately, there’s still time.”

He knew that officials in the county government were never efficient. If they could handle a matter within three days, it was already impressive.

Even if he reached the county, he’d definitely have enough time to stop it!
