Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 294: Revised: Volume 4 Chapter 49 Assassination

The time in the jungle seemed to have frozen.

Only the cold wind sweeping through the branches and bringing down a few scattered dead leaves could prove that this planet was still rotating.

The Desic Mecha Group visible through the long-range viewer had clearly accelerated their search and advancement speed. This was the typical behavior of seasoned hunters after discovering unmistakable clues; they would fixate on a clue, continuously gathering evidence to support it, and when all traces pointed in the same direction, they would pounce aggressively.

Tian Xingjian continued his battle preparations at a leisurely pace. However, this Fatty hardly exhibited the demeanor of a solitary swordmaster calmly sharpening his blade before the frontline of an army. He seemed more like a condemned prisoner desperately delaying his execution, trembling incessantly as if he were a jittering toy.

Despite his fear, Fatty never misses out. Whenever he saw Bonnie’s contemptuous gaze, this scoundrel would squint and raise his eyebrows, shaking with a look of gnashing his teeth and a distressed expression, making Bonnie grit her teeth in hatred. How could she not understand that this scoundrel was performing an ecstasy before her?

However, Bonnie had to admit that this seemingly timid and despicable Fatty was doing something more courageous than most, including herself and Reinhardt. Watching Fatty tremble thrice a second, she repeatedly doubted whether this foolish braggart would jump up and flee the next second. But despite trembling, Fatty did not leave.

He trembled, sighed, and counted all the weapons and tools carried by the Mecha, tuning each mecha device, calculating the Desic Empire’s mecha formation, and selecting sniper targets. Though he was clearly scared, he seemed rooted in place, shattering Bonnie’s doubts each time.

All preparations for [Logic] were completed. The most advanced Mecha Sniper Cannon of the Federation was Tian Xingjian’s biggest reliance for this operation. Using energy bullets, Fatty could completely destroy a regular Single Soldier Mecha with three shots. However, facing a Single Soldier Mecha like [Warhammer] with medium-sized mecha defense, Fatty estimated that the number of shots required would double!

Six shots! That’s a shooting speed that Sniper Cannon could not achieve instantly!

The greater the power of the Energy Cannon, the farther the range, but the slower the firing speed, which is common knowledge. Unlike the Energy Machine Gun, which can sweep out multiple bullets instantly, the time taken to fire six sniper bombs would be enough for any mech controller with an IQ over sixty and sound limbs to react.

So, the idea of taking out fourteen hundred mechas with one shot per mecha was simply a fantastical dream.

For Fatty, the only choice now was to use the sixteen mixed alloy armor-piercing rounds in the mecha bullet box to try sniping the enemy’s advanced commanders!

Due to the use of energy technology and the improvement of armor technology, metal bullets were rarely used on the battlefield; such physical bullets were too heavy to be carried in large quantities, and their initial speed couldn’t compare to energy bullets upon launch. In ancient wars, with the enhancement and miniaturization of mecha engines, the increased movement speed of the mechas and their evasion frequency often resulted in using up all bullets without hitting any enemies.

Traditional firing methods have reached their limit. Therefore, with the emergence of energy firing methods and the rise of Energy Cannon, metal bullets gradually disappeared from large-scale warfare, only used in special occasions.

However, energy weapons were finally countered too. This was the inherent contradiction in human development: with sharper spears, correspondingly, sturdier shields would also appear! The advent of energy shields meant that mechas no longer relied solely on armor to resist energy weapons but used instantaneous energy neutralization to offset the damage caused by energy weapons.

This is why close combat mechas have gradually become popular.

And metal bullets, as long as they achieve sufficient speed, have the same mechanical physical damage in mecha fighting, akin to hidden weapons used by martial arts masters. Yet, to truly penetrate mecha armor, traditional metal bullet firing methods were clearly inadequate, leading to the emergence of mixed weapons fired by energy weapons in energy weaponry to launch metal bullets!

This weapon appeared formidable, capable of penetrating energy shields and damaging armor, suggesting wars should enter new contradictions. However, the actual result was that to launch metal bullets with energy firing, extremely expensive mixed metals must be used, and traditional firing methods couldn’t provide enough speed for metal bullets, necessitating energy firing!

However, for metal bullet propulsion, energy firing does not offer much higher speed than traditional firing. The advantage of energy firing is in carrying capacity and the speed of energy bullets, not in the thrust during firing. Its propulsion target was originally ultra-light energy bullets, not metal bullets.

Thus, after countless technological breakthroughs, the use of mixed metal bullets with large and heavy tail energy conversion devices was ultimately restricted to special purposes—sniping!

Using ultra-high power Energy Cannon or Energy Gun, expensive metal bullets encased in energy bullets could break through energy shields and directly act on armor. Only a very small amount of sniper firing could bear the energy consumption equivalent to hundreds of energy bullet firings in a single strike, only sniping the most valuable targets could make the expensive alloy bullets worthwhile, and only precise sniping could maximize the power of mixed bullets, which is only twice as powerful as regular Energy Cannon bullets.
