Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 268: After modification: Volume 4 Chapter 40 Interception (1)

”Are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?” Hearing Osullivan’s report, Reinhardt frowned, filled with confusion about this suddenly emerging team.

”General, I’m sure I didn’t see it wrong. Besides the expression of Heavenly God, this insignia is exactly the same as ours.” Osullivan answered with an unusually certain tone.

”If no one is trying to impersonate us, then...” Reinhardt’s voice turned a bit grim, ”There’s only one person who can command such a unit!”

Osullivan widened his eyes, ”You mean, this is James...”

Reinhardt gently clenched his fist, and the joints made a crisp cracking sound, ”Without a doubt, our Emperor has secrets that even I’m unaware of.”

”Secrets?” Osullivan said in surprise, ”Our army almost covers every corner of the Gazalin, there’s nothing about any units that the Mythical Army doesn’t know about. As long as we want...no one can hide from us!”

Reinhardt said indifferently, ”Secrets are called secrets because, before they are exposed, even if they are only covered by a thin layer of transparent gauze, you still cannot see through them!”

With his hands behind his back, he paced a few steps in the command room and said, ”This secret is actually very simple, just think about it... the rigid regulation of Mythical Army’s retired soldiers and the scale of two regiments...” He smiled slightly, ”Then think about their combat power, their numbers, their equipment, does that not explain the problem?”

”Our retired soldiers?” Osullivan exclaimed.

Reinhardt sneered, ”We underestimated the Royal Family’s system. If I’m not mistaken, our soldiers, after retirement, directly enter this unit with a higher security and priority level, becoming James’ top-secret guards.”

”Then we can contact them directly...” Osullivan suddenly thought the appearance of this unit was good news.

Reinhardt shook his head, ”Think about it, positions and salaries higher than the Mythical Army, more authority, better logistics support, combined with the experience of serving in the Mythical Army, the Empire hero’s medal, and a regular working schedule, maybe even an immunity clause! Only one person can grant them these, and that is James! Besides, we only learned about this unit today. Who are they meant to guard against by acting in such a manner?”

Seeing Reinhardt’s face turning purple, and hearing his conclusion that came through gritted teeth, ”The answer is only one, they are guarding against the Mythical Army itself! This unit was established to counterbalance the Mythical Army!”

In Osullivan’s state of shock, the command room fell silent.

”General, there’s heavy fighting in the Northern District of Abnosk Prison. We suspect it’s related to that unit. The reconnaissance team has been dispatched, but due to signal interference, images have not yet returned.” A soldier’s report broke the silence.

”Osullivan, I’ll give you two regiments. Use any means necessary to capture the person I want!” Reinhardt turned to the command platform, his calmness and composure making him seem wholly uninvolved in the situation, ”We don’t have more time. Now, I think I need to find someone!”

”We have a lot of things to do, and relying on one Mythical Army alone is clearly not enough!”

”Is it done?” Fatty asked while installing the SkyNet signal access device taken from Feather Fan onto Logic, glancing at Susan and James, who were staring blankly at Bruce’s body in the Feather Fan’s cabin not far away.

”It’s done. I have to admit...” Oberto’s bronze face showed a smile similar to Fatty’s, ”Those pretty boys’ butts are whiter than mine!”

”Alright, temporarily get their butts out of your mind, it’s time for you to go!” Fatty laughed, ”Maybe you’ll miss their butts, but now, you absolutely can’t afford to linger.”

”Go?” Oberto asked in confusion, ”Where do you want us to go?”

”Retreat according to the plan, anywhere but here waiting to die or dragging my tail.” Fatty connected the power to the signal access device, focusing intently on waiting for the access indicator to light up.

”What about you?” Yaric couldn’t help but ask, a medium-sized transport ship was clearly not suited for the current situation.

”All the Mecha are under my command, and I will arrange a blockade here and leave. You take the opportunity to retreat according to the original plan. When needed, I will come to find you.” Fatty clapped his hands happily as the signal light indicated successful access, ”Your responsibility is to preserve your strength and contact other organizations, to rebel and gather more people for the insurgency.”

”As for me, I will think of a way to return to Gallipalan and support you spiritually!” Fatty smiled sincerely, ”But before that, I will attract the enemy’s attention, hold them off for a short time, until you start the uprising. Although the time will not be too long, this is the only thing I can do for you!”

”Remember this is the best chance, and the faster and more vigorously you act, the safer I will be!” Fatty rarely put away his trademark smile and said seriously, ”I will make sure that if I die, James will definitely not survive! If I live, then he will certainly be under the control of Leray Federation!”

Sanjad, Oberto, and Yaric fell silent. Achieving such a miraculous result today, before the arrival of this direct disciple of Algarfar, they hadn’t even considered it!

It was this Fatty who changed the entire morale and appearance of the Freedom Front. It was also him who raised the combat capability of the Freedom Front by more than one level, providing them with practical and detailed guidelines for behind-enemy-lines operations for the first time. It was also he who infiltrated the mechanical research lab of the Mythical Army, offering a lot of intelligence and data to the Freedom Front. It was still he who, through meticulous planning and preparation, orchestrated the breakout and timely seized the opportunity from the coup, capturing Gazalin’s highest ruler, James Morton!

And now, the three guides all knew that behind his seemingly relaxed words lay a path full of danger!

Returning to Gallipalan, how could it be easy!

Bringing along James, holding back the swarming pursuers, becoming the center of the vortex, maneuvering all the way to gain time for the Freedom Front’s uprising, such a decision requires heroic courage, unwavering determination, and exceptional skills—no one would dare make such a call without these!

”Take care!” Sanjad embraced Tian Xingjian.

”Until we meet again!” Then it was Oberto and Yaric, who saluted solemnly to the hero in their hearts.

”Wait!” Just as the three guides turned heavily, preparing to leave in silence, they suddenly heard Tian Xingjian’s voice and turned their heads...

Fatty, with tears in his eyes, pleaded, ”Your actions...you must hurry!” He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand, crying uncontrollably, ”Otherwise, I...won’t have a place to hide when the time comes...”

The three guides resolutely departed.

”General Glarenz, a kilometer ahead is Abnosk Prison. Our vanguard unit has already observed the north of the prison and found traces of a large-scale assault.”

”Oh, has [Element]’s electronic system and radar recovered?” Glarenz paused the Gazalin Empire’s senior officers’ standard Holy Sword 16 mecha, observing the map on the mechanical computer while opening the cockpit door.

”They have recovered!” A soldier operating the Holy Armor 22 Single Soldier Mecha reported, ”The strong interference source from the prison suddenly disappeared; it is estimated that our communication system will be fully restored in two minutes.”

”Phew.” Glarenz breathed a sigh of relief, waved his hand to make the soldier leave first.

Today’s start was not very smooth, but now there is finally some good news, making Glarenz feel somewhat relieved. As the commander of Stephen’s reserve forces, Glarenz knew his responsibility was great. The side attack originally launched by the Bureau of Investigation’s preservation forces and over a thousand mercenaries clearly faced issues on Bruce’s side.

If James were to leave the prison or the Mythical Army found him, Stephen and the Howard family would face complete annihilation, and by then, even a small major general like him would likely be left with nothing.

Therefore, Glarenz received the order to support Bruce at all costs and prevent any force from reaching James! Glarenz indeed acted accordingly, quickly gathering his troops and, with aerial maneuvering support, arrived at Abnosk ahead of all other forces.

But it wasn’t smooth thereafter.

First, a transport ship carrying an entire battalion’s mecha was shot down by Abnosk’s anti-aircraft missiles. Despite the start of combat preparations, fewer than ten soldiers in mech survived the violent explosion of the transport ship.

This happened thirty kilometers away from the central area of Abnosk Prison. When Glarenz was forced to order the transport ship to land and lead the remaining mecha towards Abnosk, the transport ship’s radar detected two other unknown transport ship formations not far from them.

Furthermore, after entering the prison area, few [Element] electronic and radar systems could compete with the high-power interference source in the prison center, making all mecha communications and command systems useless.

All these factors increasingly made Glarenz feel uneasy.

However, things now seemed to be heading in a positive direction, and the prison was within reach!

”Attack!”

Two minutes later, just as communication was completely restored, Glarenz decisively issued the command.

Please remember to include the tail numbers when you calculate my word count; although I talk a lot, my word count is indeed substantial.

This Chapter is still a bit short, so it counts as owing another one. I will take my daughter to a hot spring tomorrow, and I will find some time to code and make up for it. I won’t take a leave of absence on Sunday.
