Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 257: Volume 4 Chapter 34 Betrayal (14)_2

”Additionally, there’s a coup happening in Gazalin! We don’t know the specifics yet, but...” Oberto waved his hand in front of Fatty’s dazed eyes and said, ”The reconnaissance soldier ahead observed that the special forces of the Royal Investigation Bureau are attacking the fighting arena. Accompanying them is a group of mercenaries. We initially suspect that Bruce and Stephen are behind the coup!”

”Oh?” Tian Xingjian’s eyes lit up. This was a perfect opportunity to fish in troubled waters and settle personal grudges. If he could capture Bruce in one fell swoop, cut off his restless second in command, and then capture James and Stephen and take them back to the Federation, that would be perfect! Ann Lei would be safe, he would be safe, the Federation would win, and the war would end! Fatty triumphant!

However, leading people to fish in troubled waters himself was rather difficult. Hesitating for only two seconds, Fatty made a decisive decision. As the saying goes, you seek wealth within danger, and another saying goes, if you’re unwilling to sacrifice the child, you can’t catch the wolf. At worst, he’ll just risk it again; after all, they’re other people’s kids!

This scoundrel ordered, ”Immediately release all prisoners and have them assemble. I want to offer them a way out!”

***********************************************

George looked at the Mythical Army, already assembled and ready, feeling a bit lost for a moment.

For the sake of the throne, was it really worth it for him to do this?

He could have stopped this from happening before his two brothers started the coup, but he ultimately followed Philip’s arrangement, using this coup to ascend to the peak of power in one stroke.

After today, he would become utterly alone. No father, no brothers. Completing the transfer of power through betrayal—could this be the ultimate fate of the Morton family?

But now it was already impossible to back down!

Stephen’s command of six armored divisions and ten fully mechanized infantry divisions had already completed a strategic airdrop!

A perfect masterpiece!

If it weren’t for Liebgoet’s involvement, no one would believe it.

Even George, who had long been aware of the coup, was impressed by the suddenness and secrecy of this airdrop.

A total of sixteen divisions of ground forces completed their assembly and covert withdrawal from various battlefields in Lucerne within three days and boarded the transport ship returning to Mezrich.

Until now, the frontline reports still indicated that the Federation hadn’t noticed that many Imperial Army positions in front of them had only sixty percent of the original troops. Their attention had always been drawn to the Imperial Army that was airdropped along the Amayo Mountain and East Valley City line.

Liebgoet used this tactic of chaining boats together, systematically maximizing the defensive strength at the frontlines. He not only deceived the Leray Federation but also fooled James! For a full three days, James couldn’t find any signs of abnormality from the battle reports.

And as for Mezrich, no one was more familiar with it than Stephen and Liebgoet, who were in the military department daily! Every military key point, every unit, every base, including troop movements, logistical supplies, training, and everything else, was under their control. To manipulate these things was simply too easy for them!

Several units’ outdoor exercises conveniently vacated the strategic locations they were guarding. Other units either had issues with the energy supply for their mechas, or the quartermaster made an error in the supply quantity and specifications of weapons and ammunition. Plus, a few notices telling unit officers to attend meetings at designated locations enabled Liebgoet and Stephen to maximize the effectiveness of this airdrop!

Only the Imperial Palace, the Royal Guard, and the Mythical Army had no opportunities to intervene!

This was the part they focused on assaulting aggressively!

And George, by moving the Mythical Army out of their sight and relying on the Mythical Army and the Royal Guard under his control, aimed to complete this Yellow Sparrow Operation. Can all of this proceed as smoothly as imagined?

Can the Mythical Army serve as a stabilizing force?

Can the Royal Guard ensure the safety of the Imperial Palace, this central nervous system, before the situation is controlled?

Also, that former number one in the military department, Gordon, tied to my ship—can he actually contact Hegley and, with their combined prestige, control the troops stationed in Mezrich?

Everything is unknown!

Now the only certainty is that he already has no way back.

”What are you thinking?”

George turned around and saw Reinhardt smiling behind him.

Reinhardt wore a dark gray general’s uniform. This uniform, throughout all of Gazalin, was unique! It was specially designed by the Gazalin Royal Family for the Supreme Commander of the Mythical Army, even a Marshal didn’t qualify to wear it.

The perfectly tailored uniform showcased Reinhardt’s tall and straight silhouette entirely. Since knowing Reinhardt from childhood, George felt this person had hardly changed! He was very adept at controlling himself, never indulgent, so his physique and spirit always remained in the best condition.

He was always smiling, as gentle as a spring breeze. Polite and courteous, everyone felt comfortable in his presence; no one could deceive him. His wisdom and foresight far beyond his years often made George feel that if Reinhardt were in his place, his two brothers would likely have given up the struggle, willingly accepting him.

He was the most outstanding Mechanical Warrior, the most cunning commander, and his leadership, charisma, every aspect was impeccable! Such a person was truly heaven’s favorite!
