Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 272: Original text: Volume 4 Chapter 41 Interception (3) Approaching Him

Having lost two battalions, Glarenz clearly realized that the only thing to do now was to break out as quickly as possible while the reserves still had the strength of a regiment from the 59th Armored Division. The group of warriors he brought, who had just fought their way out of the Lucerne battlefield, had lost their morale. One battalion was shot down by dense anti-aircraft missiles while they tried to force their way into the no-fly zone of the prison, and another battalion fell into the enemy’s trap during the assault on the prison. In an instant, half of the two regiments’ Land Mechas were wiped out, and their morale was shattered!

The other side was also an armored group, but this group was certainly not an ordinary team. Their fighting style was identical to the Mythical Army, engaging in close combat, moving and evading in the same way, attacking ferociously, and fighting fearlessly. They were even more seasoned and experienced than the Mythical Army, killing with ease!

Especially the leading [Mad Dragon] Mecha; its combat was like a sharp sword that could penetrate any solid defense in an instant. Once a breach was created, any blocking position or defensive formation would be torn apart by the Mechas following closely behind. This [Mad Dragon] never let the following [Mad Dragon] Mechas down, and the other Mechas never disappointed this [Mad Dragon], launching assaults time and again through the opened breaches.

Nobody could stop them.

They were so in sync, to a terrifying extent.

It seemed that no one could ever make them split or defeat them. They just kept dispersing, advancing, surrounding, penetrating, defending, and covering. However, this seamless cooperation brought not a pleasant performance but a massacre.

One hundred seventy to zero!

What kind of statistic is this? Such data wouldn’t appear in a sports arena, wouldn’t occur in the career of the greatest boxer, and definitely wouldn’t happen on the battlefield. It was like a professional boxer, two meters tall, weighing three hundred pounds, with a punching power of over a thousand kilograms, beating a child less than a meter tall, weighing no more than thirty pounds, still sucking on a pacifier!

Only in such a grotesquely unfair confrontation would such statistics appear.

But now, Glarenz felt himself like that child, ruthlessly beaten a hundred and seventy times by a strong man without the strength to fight back. Watching his Mechas falling to the ground, seeing the enemy attacking like a pack of fierce wolves, without any of their Mechas being destroyed, who wouldn’t feel fear?

Moreover, Glarenz understood very well that even if he didn’t want to retreat, his warriors had already lost the will to continue fighting!

The chaotic formations, the frantic evasions, the aimless firing of Energy Cannons, all reminded Glarenz that it was time to retreat. Although the mission was critical, no one without their life could ever have the chance to complete it. As an excellent commander, the first thing one must know is how to make choices.

Advance when it’s time to advance, retreat when it’s time to retreat, and never hesitate!

But where to retreat?

Behind was a road of death filled with Mecha wreckage. On both sides were isolation nets. If they chose to break through via the isolation nets on one side, all Mechas would be stretched out over a large attack surface without being able to establish a defensive position. The enemy could choose to move parallelly, avoiding the position. When the Second Group of the 59th Division got stretched into a long snake, the enemy would unhesitatingly strike, biting viciously at the weakest point!

”Defensive formation, split into three routes, retreat towards the prison.” Glarenz decisively ordered. Without regional communication channels, he could only rely on the Mecha’s electronic amplification system and hand signals to issue commands.

Glarenz was undoubtedly an excellent commander. Under such circumstances, he made the most logical decision, which was to choose to tread again on that death road leading to the prison.

Since the chain mines had already been triggered, at least while passing through this area, they would not encounter the same situation again. The death road became the safe road. And breaking through the isolation nets, splitting the enemy’s attack into narrow three routes, establishing blocking points with heavy [Fierce Beast II] Mechas at the ends of each damaged channel in the isolation nets was the only choice to curb the [Mad Dragon]’s assault.

Additionally, the advantage of this was that the rear units could retreat leisurely, without being affected by the front chaos. By attacking instead of defending, breaking into the prison, gaining what they wanted before the enemy, would put everything in their control.

Glarenz’s orders were immediately executed. Under the cover of medium-sized Mechas, hundreds of [Holy Armor 22] that had been squeezed and unable to enter the fight quickly rushed towards the prison interior.

Seeing the Mechas at the front about to break through the last layer of the isolation net, the thing Glarenz feared most finally happened. At the corners on both sides of the prison buildings, more than three hundred Mechas came rushing in three routes.

What kind of Mechas were these! Almost every Mecha that could be seen in Gazalin was here. The Federation Army’s standard Mechas [Holy Armor 22][Holy Sword 16][Three-headed Dog][Poison Insect][Fierce Beast II], and various private Mechas, like [Hurricane][Du Fu’ai][Round Moon][Nelson] and so on. They were like a ragtag bandit army.
