The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1552: Chapter 1552: I Have a Cleanliness Obsession

Nolan Augustine’s smile was extremely stiff at the corners of his mouth. As he watched Ji You turn around, preparing to leave, he couldn’t help but speak out, ”Junior Ji You, are you really not going to reconsider?”

Ji You: ”...”

This Senior Nolan, why is he so long-winded?

Having been rejected so many times, he still wants to persist?

Could it be that there really is an undeniable charm about me? Or perhaps, does he sense something special about me?

Ji You turned back and asked, ”Senior Nolan, if I may be so bold, why are you so intent on inviting me to your laboratory? What specific ability of mine have you taken a liking to?”

A starting annual salary of a million would be hard for an average person to resist, and even Ji You herself found it extremely tempting. But her ambitions lie elsewhere, so she was able to steadfastly reject him.

To know that an ordinary material processing master earns a monthly salary of a few thousand credit points—and that’s considered pretty good wages. Top talents might earn around tens of thousands.

Offering a second-year student a salary of 1 million credit points a year—there’s no denying that this Senior Nolan is indeed quite generous.

But!

In other words, what he aims for must be more significant!

Behind every temptation, there must lie a greater space for profit. Otherwise, why would someone offer such a high price for you to process materials?

Throughout the interstellar realm, there are thousands of material processing masters. Truly capable ones are definitely not just one or two; Ji You doesn’t know how she ranks among them, but she’s certainly not the most eye-catching one.

So, what is it that he’s seeking from me?

Ji You squinted her eyes, staring at Nolan Augustine with a face of seriousness.

Nolan Augustine concealed his emotional fluctuations, adopting a very calm tone, saying, ”Junior Ji You is currently the most powerful student in the realm of materials, and my laboratory just so happens to need talents like you. In fact, my laboratory still requires more outstanding material processing masters... my—”

Before he could finish, Ji You suddenly said, ”So, is this also the reason you initially recruited Xu Siyu?”

The smile on Nolan Augustine’s face froze.

Nolan Augustine initially intended to gloss over the matter, but under Ji You’s pressing gaze, he thought for a moment and had to reply, ”Back then, Junior Xu Siyu was the most outstanding student in the Material Department. My laboratory was severely lacking in talent, so of course, I recruited her... But I had no idea...” she plagiarized you...

Before Nolan Augustine could finish his words, Ji You let out a cold laugh and said, ”So, your laboratory collects all sorts of garbage?”

Nolan Augustine: ”...”

At that moment, even the smile on his face couldn’t hold.

Ji You ignored his expression and continued to ask, ”So, if I join your laboratory, what do you plan to do about Xu Siyu?”

Nolan Augustine’s smile stiffened for a moment; he had long since figured out what to do with this question. Since he actively invited Ji You, he certainly had alternative plans for Xu Siyu.

Due to the irreconcilable conflict between Xu Siyu and Ji You, they certainly couldn’t stay in the same laboratory or even the same region. Therefore, he would assign Xu Siyu to a branch, where she’d be responsible for the material processing there.

As for expelling Xu Siyu?

Nolan Augustine did consider this, but although Xu Siyu plagiarized and copied, she still had some ability. Moreover, she was quite inexpensive; she used to willingly come forward to help herself, and now, with nowhere to go, taking her in doesn’t even require paying a salary.

Imagine someone working for you for free, not asking for a penny, and being so dedicated—how could you bear to refuse her?

Furthermore, she was willing to stay with you forever, asking for neither fame nor position. Without you, she couldn’t survive, and she was on the verge of committing suicide...

Publicly and privately, Nolan Augustine didn’t have the heart to refuse a girl who, although flawed, could create value for him.

So——

Nolan Augustine’s plan was to establish a separate branch, placing Xu Siyu there to avoid any contact with Ji You.

By then, if Ji You became stronger and Xu Siyu couldn’t create any other value, then further arrangements would be made.

...

Various thoughts flashed through his mind, but without thinking, Nolan Augustine said directly, ”Of course, it’s to fire Xu Siyu.”

Ji You was stunned for a moment, glancing at Nolan Augustine, not missing the fleeting gleam in his eyes.

Then.

Ji You understood something.

Nolan Augustine, with a hint of resentment on his face, said, ”Her character is flawed; that’s a fact. Seeing her attempt suicide before, I couldn’t just stand by. Now she’s probably recovered, and she should face her life on her own. I hope she can take responsibility for her mistakes, so once it’s confirmed that she can survive independently, I’ll fire her without hesitation.”

Ji You raised an eyebrow, ”Oh, so you’ll temporarily keep her in the lab?”

Nolan Augustine quickly said, ”Of course not. Wouldn’t that be intentionally disgusting Junior Ji You? I’ll have her leave the lab.”

Ji You drew out her words, ”Oh——,” you know it would disgust me, huh?

Nolan Augustine smiled, ”Junior Ji You, what do you think? If you’re still not satisfied with this arrangement, you can tell me. I’ll respect your opinion.”

First, placate her; once she agrees and signs the contract, we can address it later.

Anyway, even if Ji You finds out that I arranged Xu Siyu in another lab later, what could change?

In Nolan Augustine’s view, it’s just plagiarism after all; such a trivial matter, what’s the point of arguing? Isn’t it enough if it brings him profit?

Looking at Nolan Augustine’s seemingly graceful smile, Ji You smiled slightly, finally understanding why her Six Spiritual Threads remarked that he smelled bad!

This kind of character really stinks.

Ji You had no intention of sparing his face, calmly stating, ”So, if I agree, you’ll immediately prepare a contract for me, and to get me to sign quickly, you’ll promise all sorts of perks. Once I sign, I’ll suddenly discover that Xu Siyu is still in your lab, but I can’t do anything because if I leave, I’ll face a huge penalty for breach of contract?”

The smile on Nolan Augustine’s face froze.

So plainly revealed by Ji You, his plan was naturally met with immense awkwardness. But Ji You didn’t spare him, instead saying, ”Senior Nolan, if everything in your lab is based on profit, one day you’ll be bitten back by those profits.”

”I’m sorry, I have a cleanliness disorder; I won’t join.”
