Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Slaughter the small fry in front of the Tier Two Spine Dog.

Jiang Rong held a gun in one hand and placed the other on the sniper rifle in Yu Yue’s hand, replacing Su Huan to charge it.

The converted electrical energy poured into the electromagnetic acceleration rail along the gun’s body, and the City Breaker’s ghostly blue patterns lit up one after another.

The barrage from the armed soldiers accurately splattered onto the Spine Dog, but the 5.56mm bullets could only leave chiseling marks on the black scales.

But they overlooked He Jie who was caught in the middle.

Taking advantage of its relaxed state, He Jie pulled the trigger decisively. Bullets that could easily tear through a Tier One Evolution Beast only left a series of bloody pits on it.

Yet, it still inflicted substantial damage.

”Roar!”

The beast, in pain, stood upright, intending to leap over and kill He Jie on the pickup truck.

This is the moment!

Yu Yue emitted a high-frequency tremor from her lips and teeth, and the Level 3 ”Sonic Affinity” created lethal resonance between the scales.

The Spine Dog’s fluid movements stalled once more.

And the sniper round had already flown from the barrel.

”Boom!”

A pillar of cold blue light pierced through the battlefield again, creating a disproportionately ”small hole” on the head of the Spine Dog compared to its body.

Each hole made by the heavy machine gun was much larger than this.

But it was this small hole that claimed the life of the fierce Spine Dog.

Yu Yue had no time to catch her breath before conveying the battlefield’s surrounding situation to He Jie.

Although they were fighting while running, the dense waves of zombies had encircled them, ceaselessly consuming their limited ammunition.

”Reload! There are two Tier One zombies at three o’clock!”

He Jie shouted, yet there was no response from those around him. Just as he was about to curse.

”Captain He, we’re out of 12.7mm bullets!”

Panic appeared on the soldier’s face beside him.

He Jie froze for a moment, kicking over the ammo box at his feet. The empty box clattered, holding only a few scattered ammo belts without a single bullet left.

He didn’t hesitate, tossing aside two heavy machine guns, ”Give me a rifle, how much ammo do we have left?”

The soldier promptly replied, ”I still have half a standard load of 5.56 submachine gun rounds, and the others don’t have much left either.”

He Jie suddenly felt a chill down his spine; the convoy’s ammunition was nearly depleted, with over a dozen guns already silenced.

If not for the soldier beside him responsible for reloading, even this half-load of ammo wouldn’t be left.

Though only a bit of the headlights illuminated the area, Yu Yue’s ”Shared Acoustic Field” allowed them to clearly sense the surging tides of zombies.

The convoy hadn’t suffered significant casualties so far because of the firearms in their hands.

Once out of bullets, they wouldn’t be able to ensure their own safety with their limited strength.

A zombie charge might easily swallow the hundred-man convoy like a tiny boat in a stormy sea.

From afar, some survivors exploded something, and flames began to burn fiercely, tinting the night sky of the Steel Council’s heavy industrial area a dark red.

The firepower of the convoy weakened further, and He Jie reduced the use of bullets, relying on physical strength to slaughter common zombies.

He only fired when a Tier One zombie got too close.

Even then, he almost had his intestines ripped out by a Night Demon.

After all, he wasn’t a hulking brute like Liang Kuan who invested all his skill points in muscle.

Within just ten seconds, the situation reversed, fraught with danger.

Suddenly, a household SUV on the side had its tire bitten by a bloodhound that appeared out of nowhere. Although the bloodhound was crushed under the wheels, the car lost control and crashed into the roadside.

”Help!”

”Save me!”

”Captain He, save me!”

Soldiers who knew He Jie began to cry out for help.

But He Jie could only grit his teeth and pretend not to hear.

At this point, knowing them or not made no difference; even if Su Huan fell, he would hesitate.

”Boom!”

The desperate soldiers inside the car detonated their explosives, flipping the small car in an instant, shattering glass.

With howls, zombies rushed at the convoy.

A Night Demon pounced on a car at the end, its sharp claws piercing the metal, killing the driver. The vehicle veered out of control into the zombie horde, gradually forming a small mountain.

In just a breath, two cars’ worth of people had already died.

Roars, explosions, despair, cries, howls...

All the horrors were concentrated within these brief thirty seconds.

Humans without firearms were merely toothless tigers.

Even Evolvers could do nothing against such sheer numbers.

Fear gripped everyone’s hearts, and someone, unable to bear the terror, chose to commit suicide by charging into the zombie horde, accompanied by the curses from their entire car.

Under such circumstances, He Jie’s ”Firepower Hand” was even more lacking compared to Yu Yue’s ”Audio Shooter.”

”Watch out!”

Yu Yue’s warning came to his ear as an ordinary sniper round took down a zombie leaping from behind.

Unaware of when, the pickup bed held only him.

The men who had come up with him were dragged away by the surrounding zombies, including the Evolver soldier.

Facing one claw and pale hand after another, He Jie resembled an agitated brown bear.

He hopped around wildly in the pickup, his assault rifle turning into a makeshift cudgel flailing randomly.

The sound of bones snapping and tendons tearing was endless.

Those agile enough to catch up were in for a rough time, even if they were Tier Ones trampled or bludgeoned by him.

”Splat!”

Squeezed between two Night Demons, a hole punched through He Jie’s chest, causing the mother and daughter watching from the car to burst into hysterics.

”Bang!”

A huge metal shield spun into the scene.

It sliced through the waist and abdomen of the Night Demon on the car roof, exploding seven or eight scarlet eyes into a blood mist. The body staggered, flung off by the pickup.

Liang Kuan leaped from over ten meters away, landing onto the vehicle.

The tin roof shuddered with a ”boom” as the vehicle suddenly sank; his formidable silhouette blocked He Jie’s front, clutching the Night Demon’s neck with hands the size of fan leaves.

Raising the shield from the car roof with his right hand, he chopped down.

”Roar—”

Both behemoths struggled, but Liang Kuan had the upper hand by more than a notch.

At the cost of three claw marks on his chest, he directly cleaved the Night Demon into two!

His dark eyes fierce like a tiger, completely unlike his normally reticent demeanor, such a ferocious combat style left even He Jie, who prided himself on being rough, watching in awe.

Though his teeth bared in pain, he couldn’t help but shout under his breath, ”That’s damn impressive!”

Liang Kuan picked up the hundred-pound shield with one hand, like using a fly swatter, and stood in the pickup bed, striking at the zombies clambering up, knocking their heads bloody.

”Reinforcements are here.”

Liang Kuan spoke in a muffled voice.

He Jie faltered, instinctively using the ”Shared Acoustic Field” to listen, indeed hearing the screeching metal sounds, like fine streams converging to form an unbeatable wave!

”It’s Xiaoba!”

He Jie was overjoyed, laughing heartily despite the wound on his chest.

The electric wheelchair rolled over the shattered concrete roadway, the titanium exoskeleton gleaming coldly under the distant firelight.

He pressed a rusty oil pipeline, and the metal twisted and deformed like a living creature, shredding three bird-beasts descending from the sky into a bloody mess.

Xiaoba glanced at the abundant metal and buildings on either side, calmly saying, ”They’re almost here. We’ll build a defensive line here.”

”Got it!”

Countless metal pieces flew from the buildings on both sides, swiftly forming a pure metal fortification under the direction of Level 1 ”Construction Specialty,” utilizing the surrounding landscape as a foundation.

Like the hand of God, steel beams interwove and stacked together.

Xiaoba maintained as much of the metal’s original form as possible to prevent energy waste.

In just a minute, a metal barrier ten meters high and roughly a meter thick was constructed.

It wasn’t just a solid block of iron but a well-structured battlefield fortification!

Lin Jin waved his hand nearby, spewing flame from his palm to ignite the zombies attempting to climb over the metal barrier.

The fire spread along Xiaoba’s pre-arranged metal setups, instantly forming a twenty-meter-long wall of flame.

”It takes... we need three more minutes to perfect it.”

Xiaoba’s eyes were filled with a metallic hue as he had just dismantled twelve tons of steel structure, and now the entire factory area’s metal framework groaned under the strain.
