Armed Train in the Apocalypse

”It’s very dangerous outside, let me take you away.”

Zhang Min unconsciously softened her tone.

She felt as if the girl could see right through her, just like the last time with Su Huan.

Her heart was in turmoil as she waited for a response, finally understanding how those she had once teased must have felt.

”Okay.”

The girl reached out her hand, white as if it was glowing.

Zhang Min breathed a sigh of relief and held the girl’s delicate hand, even her burning hatred subsided a little.

She took the girl to the truck at the back. The truck cab was spacious, allowing both to squeeze into the passenger seat.

”How do you feel?”

The man in the driver’s seat asked.

Zhang Min looked up; it turned out he was asking the girl behind.

The girl shook her head and sat quietly in the seat behind the driver’s cabin, and the man also sighed in relief.

The vehicle started, and the engine roared.

”You seem very afraid of her?”

Zhang Min suddenly asked.

The man kept a nervous eye on the rear-view mirror and whispered, ”I’m afraid she’ll die!”

”Hmm?”

Zhang Min raised an eyebrow, and her intuition told her he was telling the truth.

”The Genetic Primordial constantly generates abilities, like a burning torch, with only three to five years of life span, even with large amounts of drugs to sustain it. She could die now or in the next moment from being unable to bear the constantly generated abilities.”

Even with a lowered voice, at such close range, it was audible.

The girl who heard she could only live three to five years showed no reaction.

Zhang Min glanced at the girl in the rearview mirror, a hint of subtle regret in her eyes, ”Can’t it be stopped?”

”Stopped?” The man sneered, ”The genetic serum is essentially an activation agent. Afterward, it’s the body’s spontaneous activity. Unless death occurs, it can’t be stopped. It can only continue evolving.”

”Continue evolving, doesn’t that mean she can keep getting stronger?”

A glimmer of keen interest flashed in Zhang Min’s eyes.

The man quickly said, ”You can’t! That thing requires evolvers of dual domains or more, or otherwise, regular evolvers will undergo genetic collapse.”

Hearing this, Zhang Min dismissed the idea.

Neither spoke afterward. The man drove the heavy truck wildly, crushing everything in its path, Zhang Min witnessed him running over a severely injured security personnel and two company employees.

Utterly ruthless.

But the smooth journey didn’t last long. Mutant bird and beast activity blocked the road north; they had no choice but to detour east.

Various speed-type Mutant Beasts and zombies had flooded the heavy industrial zone.

The higher the tier, the faster they ran. Those reaching their location quickly were mostly Tier One and above Mutant Beasts or zombies.

The Steel Council’s resistance never ceased but had become very weak, with firepower points scattered across the vast industrial zone.

”Screech—”

The man yanked the steering wheel, and the truck’s front suddenly swerved to the side.

In a flash, Zhang Min grabbed the handle on the right, pushed with her feet, and slipped out of the window.

A slender figure, three meters tall, stood atop a small car, double-jointed legs slightly bent, the car beneath was crushed like a cardboard box.

Scarlet-black eyes locked onto Zhang Min, a surge of malice rushed toward her.

Tier Two Jumper!

In an instant, Zhang Min assessed the zombie’s strength before her.

No wonder they dared not ram it.

She tried absorbing its malice, but moments later, Zhang Min abandoned the futile attempt.

From her view, the Tier Two zombie’s malice seemed endless; just absorbing a bit made her chest feel tight.

However, benefiting from the swelling negative emotions, the wounds on her arms began healing rapidly, and her mind grew increasingly sharp.

Using the absorbed negative emotions as a primer, she triggered the Jumper’s emotions.

Then she darted back into the truck, ”Drive fast!”

Behind her, the Jumper’s furious roar erupted. The next moment, the entire vehicle shook violently, as if bearing a colossal force, the truck’s frame collapsed, and the wheels flew off.

The heavy truck’s base suddenly gave way mid-drive, propelling forward by inertia.

The truck’s chassis and the concrete ground sparked fiercely, slamming heavily into a roadside building.

In an instant, the truck flipped, sending everything spinning.

Zhang Min was thrown by inertia against the deformed door; the intense pain of broken ribs blackened her vision.

Through the shattered truck window, she saw the Jumper’s decayed claws ripping open the metal, its scarlet-black fingernails a mere ten centimeters from her eyeball.

”Am I going to die...?” As the thought surfaced, she seemingly glimpsed the slowly closing door of the armored train.

Su Huan stood at the boundary of light and shadow, a mocking smirk on his lips.

Hatred twisted her insides like a poisoned dagger — she hadn’t yet seen that man kneel and beg for mercy, hadn’t yet flayed his arrogant flesh bit by bit.

The howls of the Jumpers suddenly became distant.

In a daze, she heard the hum of the trembling rails, that sound piercing through the roars of the zombie tide, like an ice pick stabbing into chaotic consciousness.

Could it be an auditory hallucination...

How could the armed train possibly come here, and even if it did, what difference would it make?

Just a faintly weak organization of survivors.

Even the Steel Council succumbed to such disaster, what could it do even if they came?

”Shh...”

The silver-haired girl suddenly pressed down on her bleeding shoulder.

In her gemstone-like pupils, Zhang Min saw her twisted reflection, and further beyond—

A silver lightning bolt cleaving the night!

A silver heavy motorbike roared as it tore through the night, the engine’s roar drowning the howls of the zombie tide.

Su Huan bit diagonally on a carbon fiber composite long knife, blood seeping from between his teeth and sliding down the ridge of the blade.

Violent lightning around him pulled out a vibrant rainbow in the air.

It wasn’t that he wanted to show off; he had to drive and carry the Tower Laboratory’s head at the same time, leaving no hand to hold the knife.

The mechanical arm mounted on the exoskeleton was now gripping the electromagnetic sniper rifle for him.

Moreover, he could no longer control the energy within him, causing the flashy phenomenon of lightning spillover.

”Hold on tight.”

Looking at the overturned heavy truck a hundred meters away, Su Huan let out a low chuckle, the knife in his teeth vibrating.

Three blood dogs lunging from thirty meters away were instantly entangled by the Thunder Serpent.

They were directly drawn to the front of the bike by an electric whip.

The bike ran over them without slowing down, the two-ton machine turning into a silver meteor, smashing the Tier One blood dogs flat with an explosion, leaving a foul, fan-shaped smear of blood and bone on the armored bumper.

Su Huan swung Director Xu over his shoulder, narrowly avoiding a Night Demon’s lunge and bite.

The battle techniques of a Tier One Fighting Master, honed a thousand times, allowed him to seize the combat opportunity with ease, as if by instinct, drawing out and waving the knife from his mouth.

In an instant, flesh and blood splattered.

A Tier Two Jumper by the overturned truck locked onto Su Huan, crouching slightly.

”Bang!”

A cold shot from somewhere caused it to stagger.

On the roof of a pickup truck across a block, Yu Yue calmly pulled the bolt, searching for the next presence threatening Su Huan.

Despite Yu Yue’s interference, the Jumper still managed to leap successfully with its formidable physique.

The moment it jumped, lightning spread to its feet.

The Level 5 Pan-energy Transformation instantly converted half of Su Huan’s outputted energy into surging current, spreading within a ten-meter radius.

Electricity shot up from the ground, converging in mid-air five or six meters above into an electric net.

In a flash, only blinding lightning was seen shuttling through this space.

Su Huan threw the old man out, sharply twisting the handlebars, skimming across the ground.

Suddenly, from deep within, a cracking sound came forth, like the crisp crack of a thawing ice river in spring, subtle yet deafening.

Originally smooth movements suddenly had slight stutters.

The Level 1 Hyper-Speed Nerves collapsed, the Fighting Master class was completely destroyed.

A trace of blood red appeared in Su Huan’s pupils at some point.

”Sizzle—”

The Jumper leaping a hundred meters high boldly fell into the thunder zone.

And faced an electromagnetic sniper rifle that had long been ready to fire!

A dark blue beam pierced the sky.

”Boom!”

The long-delayed sound of impact echoed.

The slide of the heavy motorbike gradually halted.

He had no intention of matching close combat abilities with the Tier Two Zombie, so whether the Fighting Master was affected didn’t really matter.

It’s just that the negative effects of genetic collapse caused him to see bouts of darkness before his eyes.

”The Genetic Primordial and Genetic Primordial Solution are on this truck!”

A slightly bruised Director Xu said beside the overturned truck.

But what drew Su Huan’s interest more was the familiar face crushed under the vehicle’s body.

Dragging heavy steps over to the severely injured Zhang Min, crouching beside her, he touched her tender half-face.

He spat out the knife handle, long deformed from biting, a sinister arc curling up at the blood-stained corner of his lips.

”The conductor really enjoys your surprises.”

Behind him was a hundred-meter stretch of lightning-charred earth, ahead was a vacuum area where the zombie tide recoiled in panic, akin to a blood-red path split by the whip of a Thunder God.

(End of month summary: 0 leaves this month, daily updates over 5,000 words, totaling 200,000 words, though incomparable to the greats, it’s not disgraceful either. I’ve been a bit stretched thin, plus the climax parts are a bit taxing on the brain, constantly contemplating how to arrange the plot for a better presentation, hence the slower updates. Still, counting this chapter, today reached over 7,000 words.)
