Armed Train in the Apocalypse

This dangerous task can’t possibly be left to Lao San alone.

Su Huan granted Jiang Rong and Lu Xiao’s team permission to use the ammunition; otherwise, they couldn’t possibly suppress that horde of crazed Evolution Beasts.

The train occasionally shook with a massive jolt.

But it was no longer a problem.

Although the Evolution Beasts had formidable physiques, they couldn’t damage the tracks and couldn’t use tools. Faced with a train weighing several thousand tons, they could only crash into it head-on with sheer force.

Moreover, the fleeing Steel Council was now diverting some of the firepower.

Su Huan returned to his room and paused briefly at the door.

When he opened the door, he saw a figure standing there, wearing dark cargo pants with the pant legs neatly tucked into high-top combat boots, the thighs appearing ample, and a tactical vest with an elastic band wrapped under the ribs, securing a thick shoulder pad on the shoulder.

Despite the tidy appearance, the smoothness of the shoulders, collarbone, and earlobes identified her as Yu Yue.

The little maid had her eyelids lowered, biting her lower lip until it was completely drained of color.

Su Huan moved in closer, his fingertip brushing across, freeing her bitten lip, which flushed crimson again.

He chuckled lightly, ”Is the wish-granting elf here?”

Yu Yue lifted her wet eyes, fear almost overflowing from them.

She could hear the subtle sounds within Su Huan’s body, like the collapse of a snow-capped mountain, like thundering waves crashing.

The originally stable and harmonious sounds and rhythms were disrupted, with new sounds and changes emerging constantly. Yet, she didn’t know what those changes signified, only instinctively feeling that Su Huan’s condition was far from the calm he projected.

”Su Huan, your body...”

Just as Su Huan was about to speak, he suddenly felt an itch on the tip of his nose and instinctively embraced the woman, his head crossing past her shoulder.

A droplet fell from his nose.

It landed on Yu Yue’s clothes, warm and red.

Su Huan casually covered it with his hand and pinched the woman’s lower back, as if sinking into a soft down quilt.

”I want to eat white porridge, salted duck egg, and soybean milk tomorrow morning. No residue in the soybean milk, sweetened. No sugar in the porridge, and the salted duck egg needs to be oily. Remember?”

Yu Yue hesitated to speak but nodded obediently.

”I’ll prepare it for you now, but your body...”

Su Huan, with a mischievous smile, caressed the woman’s waist and hips before pushing her out of the room.

After closing the door, he lowered his head, rubbing the sticky substance in his hand, red light shimmered, and the faint bloody smell dispersed.

Time was running out; he had to deal with the old boss first.

Before he could rest for a while, He Jie knocked on his room door.

...

On the outskirts of Changli County, at the scrapyard.

Two people crawled out from the trash heap.

The young collector said with lingering fear, ”This is beyond insane. The Steel Council has fallen, and if they lure out all the advanced zombies from the hot zone, not only the Steel Council, but every power in the Acid Rain Zone will be in trouble. Delivering this news back will be a significant achievement.”

The ringed man whispered, ”Forget about all that. Let’s sneak away while the battle hasn’t ended. Zombies don’t recognize our status.”

”Alright, we’ve already escaped from the battlefield’s core. I observed earlier; there are fewer zombies to the north.”

The two of them murmured a bit, quickly erasing their traces, and jogged towards the outskirts of Changli County.

The duo worked as collectors on the armed train, initially planning to hide until the battle was over. Who would have thought that the armed train would be forcibly stopped by the Steel Council? Relying on their excellent hiding capabilities, they escaped amidst the chaos, barely reaching the edge of the zone.

Earlier they hid in the scrapyard to escape a Tier Two Evolution Beast.

The ringed man suddenly paused his steps, frowning, ”Hold on, this direction won’t work, there are zombies, change direction!”

The two dashed down a side path.

”This way won’t work either!”

”Change!”

”No, the road is blocked ahead. Head up the building!”

”Crap, there’s a Night Demon up there!”

”Don’t reveal yourself, there’s a Tier One Mutant Vulture up there!”

”Change!”

”Wait, the vulture got distracted.”

The ringed man suddenly said.

The two stood on the third-floor shop, peering through the window into the dark night sky.

Though occasional wing flaps were audible, they posed little threat to two Tier One Evolvers.

An armed helicopter took flight, its searchlights illuminating the surroundings as two anti-aircraft machine guns roared, shooting down the gathering mutated birds.

One of them climbed out the window, scaling up the wall’s decorative features while cautiously glancing backward.

Suddenly, the ringed man saw a faint bluish reflection from the glass in front of him.

His heart skipped a beat.

When he reached the rooftop and turned around, the helicopter, billowing smoke, was crashing straight toward them.

The two exchanged glances, despair on their faces.

”What a jinx!”

”Boom——”

The helicopter shattered the corner of the building, snapping its rotors, like a dragonfly losing its wings, plummeting to the ground, blooming into a massive fireball.

Searing red eyes in the darkness gazed toward the source of the flames.

In an instant, the roar of the undead thundered.

Looking up, they saw a staggering figure approaching them, collapsing not far away.

The duo hesitated for a moment. Though they preferred not to get involved, they couldn’t resist their curiosity.

They went over, turned the person over, revealing a young face.

The ringed man twirled the ring on his finger, surprised, ”He’s Li Tao, the nephew of the Steel Council’s executive director Li Wangchuan. The records say he’s a collector but hasn’t met the conditions for advancement. Should we help him?”

The young collector scratched his head in frustration. If it was just some nobody, they’d leave him.

But Li Tao’s identity complicated matters. The Steel Council’s downfall didn’t mean their resources simply vanished; the deep blue data and the industrial conglomerates would covet them. Bringing this key figure back could earn them at least three ranks.

They wouldn’t have to toil undercover for a while.

Clenching his teeth, ”Inject a sedative and carry him. The explosion created a diversion, let’s run in the opposite direction.”

”Your call!”

After briefly checking Li Tao’s injuries to ensure he wouldn’t die, they quickly withdrew.

However, they couldn’t head northeast anymore; too many zombies were attracted by the helicopter explosion there. They’d have to detour through the county center.

With Li Tao in tow, the duo was constantly chased by various zombies and Evolution Beasts, darting like mice caught in the open.

Carrying Li Tao on his back, the ringed man panted and said, ”Do you hear something?”

”I specialize in hiding my presence, so my senses aren’t as acute as yours for gathering information... Wait, do you mean the vibration?”

The young collector halted his steps.

The ringed man nodded, ”Yes, I feel a tremor underfoot, like a tingling sensation. Do you feel it?”

The young man chuckled bitterly.

A railroad track appeared, having somehow stretched across the street ahead, causing the ground to rumble as the tracks slightly trembled.

Two beams of light approached from the distance.

The train’s distinctive whistle pierced the skies, penetrating their eardrums.
