Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 436: Chapter 416: Who Says Outstanding People Don’t Hold Grudges?

Chang Xi burst into laughter as soon as she walked out of Tianhua Restaurant, laughing so hard that Luo Qianqian felt a tingling in her scalp. She sneakily glanced at Ye Liang, who was busy blushing, and shrunk her neck to lower her presence.

Chang Xi, seemingly carefree, randomly picked a restaurant. They entered a private room, ordered a table full of delicacies, and then ordered a bottle of... ”erguotou”??? In a half-jin size???

”Sister Xi...” Luo Qianqian tried to say something but was immediately cut off by Chang Xi waving her hand.

”I’m happy today, I’ll pay the bill; you guys just enjoy,” Chang Xi declared as she threw down a card, opened it and started pouring directly into her glass. Besides a bottle of alcohol, there were only complimentary cold dishes left on the table.

”Is it really good to drink, Sister Xi? I’m still a child,” Luo Qianqian pretended to be innocent, feeling like vomiting from having to attract attention this way.

As expected, Chang Xi looked at her suspiciously: ”Are you taking the wrong medication?” Luo Qianqian was usually calm with people, but what was she up to now acting like this?

Luo Qianqian, at a loss for words, decided to remain silent.

Chang Xi then curled her lips up. Isn’t it good to drink too much? When you drink too much, you go wild.

However, she took good care of Luo Qianqian by specifically ordering juice and soda. Yes, both; Luo Qianqian could play around and drink whichever she preferred. She then raised her glass to Ye Liang: ”I’ll drink to you first.”

Ye Liang: ???

What had he done? Why did he feel like he was not on the same wavelength as this person? Why the toast? What had he done? What was going on now?

Luo Qianqian ate the freshly served cold dishes silently, not forgetting to order a soup. Naturally, the soup wasn’t for her; it was to help Chang Xi sober up and warm her stomach later. Yet, none of the three thought about contacting the Wei Family.

”Let me tell you,” Chang Xi said after downing a glass, her face already flushed. Whether she was venting or complaining, she began to tell her story: ”She was once my best friend, the best. I would share an apple with her, and for her sake, I stopped hanging out with other friends. It was always just her. How could she treat me this way?”

Although she didn’t name anyone, Luo Qianqian understood who she was talking about, considering they had met less than an hour ago.

”I was so good to her, yet she tried to poison me. Haha, funnily enough, she treated me even better after I gained weight. Isn’t that strange?”

Ye Liang had been quiet, sitting to the side. Hearing Chang Xi’s words, he simply frowned slightly, his expression hard to read.

Luo Qianqian stood there speechless, recalling the words that had been spoken in the room earlier. She wondered whether jealousy between friends was really that scary? Thinking about He Wenyu, who had protected her for two lifetimes, and Qin Nuan, who shared her plight, Luo Qianqian felt fortunate that the friends she encountered didn’t have entangled interests or shared circles and thus, jealousy had not been an issue.

”And you,” Chang Xi pointed at Ye Liang, ”did you really take liberties with her? Am I not enough?”

Ye Liang’s face darkened; when had he taken liberties with that woman? He had just heard her saying it herself; he hadn’t even touched her with a finger.

Thinking it over, he realized people nowadays were too good at acting; it was scary.

Chang Xi, unphased, started chugging from the bottle. Luo Qianqian was about to intervene but Ye Liang stopped her: ”Let her drink it out; she’ll feel better.”

”That’s strong liquor...” Luo Qianqian was still somewhat worried and wanted to step forward to stop it.

Ye Liang shook his head calmly: ”She’s an adult and can control her own actions.”

Luo Qianqian wanted to say more but was so startled by what happened next that she dared not make a sound.

Chang Xi suddenly stood up and sat down on Ye Liang’s lap. His face slightly reddened but he didn’t move. Then, she saw Chang Xi wrap her arms around Ye Liang’s neck and kiss him on the lips. Luo Qianqian’s mouth dropped open; then, she dropped her chopsticks and blurted out, ”I’m going to the restroom,” before running out of the room. She pressed her face against the door, then quietly stood by the door to stop the waitstaff.

But she was overthinking it; the cold dishes were already served, and the hot dishes still needed time. So when Ye Liang came looking for her, no waitstaff had yet approached the room.

Ye Liang looked at Luo Qianqian, who stood guard like a door sentry, his face flushing: ”Come on in, why are you standing out here?”

Luo Qianqian nodded, not saying a word, and followed Ye Liang back into the private room.

Chang Xi was sprawled over the chair, her eyes hazy, her mouth visibly swollen and bright red.

Luo Qianqian awkwardly looked away, claiming ignorance.

However, Chang Xi just had to make her presence felt, ”Do my lips look swollen?” As she burped and leaned towards Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian, looking down, nodded slightly, tears welling up in her heart. Please, someone come and rescue her—her social awkwardness was kicking in.

Then, her ”angel” really did come to save her—the waiter, carrying dishes, walked in.

Luo Qianqian had never found the sight of the waiter so pleasing—she was nearly moved to tears.

However, her intense gaze frightened the waiter so much that he fled in a panic.

Luo Qianqian touched her nose and placed some dishes in front of Chang Xi, ”Eat some food, and don’t get too drunk and act crazy later.”

Nonetheless, Chang Xi smacked her lips and poured another glass of wine; soon there was only a drop left in the bottle. Luo Qianqian shivered and silently decided to make an excuse to leave as soon as dinner was over. This was clearly heading in a strange direction.

Thinking this, she quickly sent an SOS message to Qin Nuan from under the table.

Sure enough, Qin Nuan was reliable. Before even finishing two bites, her phone rang.

Luo Qianqian answered the call with composure under both their gazes.

”Hello? Nuannuan.”

——Yes, it’s me, what’s wrong?

”What? Are you serious?”

——What are you talking about, serious or not?

”I’m having dinner with Sister Xi, can we meet later? I’ll come find you.”

——I’m on a date, so just go home and play by yourself.

”That won’t be nice... Okay then, see you in an hour.”

——It’s fine, just don’t come.

”Okay, then wait for me, huh.”

——I won’t wait.

”Okay, bye.”

After hanging up, and seeing Ye Liang’s inquiring look, she explained, ”A friend of mine just got back today and wants to hang out, so I’ll leave after a while. You just take Sister Xi home, I’ll go alone.”

Chang Xi’s groggy eyes flashed a cunning light, her lips curved into a smile. ”No way, you can’t leave, you have to stay in bed with me.”

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes. You old man go share a blanket with Big Brother Ye! She preferred not using a blanket in the heat of the summer.

Meanwhile, Qin Nuan was also baffled. Was this a monologue? What did this have to do with what she was saying?

”What’s wrong?” Luo Yanran looked at her astonished expression as he set down the ice cream he had just bought. ”Qianqian’s call?”

”Yeah, don’t worry about her.” Qin Nuan put down her phone and took the ice cream, looking at a fully equipped Luo Yanran with a cheerful expression. ”Shall we go watch a movie?”

Luo Yanran nodded and turned to buy the tickets, amiable and easy to talk to—quite different from his usual self who bickered with Qin Nuan from time to time.
