My Alleged Husband

Chapter 46: Chapter 46 Dominant Xia Jing_1

Xia Jing was running along the road when she suddenly stopped. She had a sudden realization that aimlessly searching like this was futile, so she mentally filtered through all the places Zhang Zhentian might have gone: It’s too late for Zhentian to go to the lakeside, he wouldn’t be looking for Li Jiayuan, and certainly not at the places we often visit. Given his bad mood today, he must be at a bar drowning his sorrows.

Xia Jing felt very clever, having used the simple process of elimination to narrow down Zhang Zhentian’s possible whereabouts. She felt she understood Zhang Zhentian quite well. Knowing roughly where to look would make the search much easier. After running for a while, when she could no longer run, she hailed a taxi on the roadside and asked the driver to go as fast as possible. This driver was a man who looked to be in his fifties or sixties, with a kind face, and seemed a very honest and trustworthy person!

Ten minutes later, the taxi stopped in front of the nearest bar to Xia Jing’s house. Without hesitation, Xia Jing handed the driver a Hundred Yuan note. As the driver was about to give her the change, Xia Jing opened the door and dashed out of the cab, rushing into the bar.

Inside, Xia Jing searched round and round again and again but never found a trace of Zhang Zhentian. She asked the bartender, she called Zhang Zhentian’s mobile phone, but all to no avail. Stepping out of the bar, she was prepared to continue her search in the next bar when she saw the same taxi driver from earlier still waiting at the entrance, not having left. Xia Jing got into the driver’s car again, and seeing her state, he joked with her.

”What’s the matter, beautiful? Feeling down?” the driver asked Xia Jing.

Xia Jing didn’t know what to say to the driver; she was feeling really upset. Reflecting on everything she and Zhang Zhentian had been through together, she gradually realized that Zhang Zhentian truly didn’t understand her, yet he indeed truly loved her...

Seeing that Xia Jing didn’t respond, the driver kindly asked her, ”Did you have a fight with your boyfriend?”

At the driver’s words, Xia Jing was momentarily stunned. She turned to look at the driver, who glanced back at her and said, ”Why are you looking at me like that? Did I guess wrong?”

Eagerly, Xia Jing replied, ”No, no, you didn’t get it wrong. Uncle, how did you know I had a fight with my boyfriend?”

Xia Jing waited for the driver’s answer, gazing at him with eager anticipation.

”Ah, it’s obvious to anyone with eyes. You were so exhausted from running, you took a cab. Once you reached your destination, you handed over a Hundred Yuan note without a word and dashed into the bar as if your life depended on it. You must have had a fight and were looking for your boyfriend, weren’t you?” The driver looked at Xia Jing half-smiling.

Seeing that the driver had spelled it out so clearly, Xia Jing decided not to keep hiding her troubles from him, and she opened up about her difficulties and thoughts.

”Uncle, to tell you the truth, I don’t know where to begin. Since you can see it so clearly, I might as well share my heart with you. You know, I met my boyfriend abroad. I used to think he was a very responsible person, and back then, I never imagined we’d come to the point of talking about marriage. I thought he might find another girl and leave me, but I never expected that day to become a reality. He was framed by another woman, but he didn’t give up on me, and for that reason, he couldn’t fulfill the responsibility a man should towards that girl. Time and time again, whenever that girl sought him out, I would unintentionally become aware of it. Uncle, do you know how I felt back then? From the first day I was with him, I was so happy, feeling nothing could be more joyful than being with him. Slowly, as our relationship grew closer, he took me home to meet his father. I thought his father would agree to our being together, but instead, he outright opposed it and even forbade me from seeing him. I made an effort, and gradually, his father accepted me, but then he changed into someone I didn’t recognize anymore. Since the start of our relationship, I knew there would be many difficulties, but I never thought he would yell at me, and least of all, devalue me completely. Uncle, do you understand? My affection for him began to fade the moment he belittled me. And then today, after what happened, I grew even angrier. I told him that if I ever found him still in contact with that woman, I would leave him, but he still kept in touch with her. I was so angry at the time. Later, his father called me and explained the whole situation, and only then did I realize I had misunderstood him; that’s why I’m...”
