My Alleged Husband

Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Xia Jing’s Reply_1

Zhang Zhentian didn’t know where Xia Jing was, and his heart was on fire with urgency. He longed to find her as soon as possible, to be reunited with her day and night. Silently, he pleaded in his heart, ”Xia Jing, can you tell me where you are? I’m not asking for much, just for you to come out and see me. Is that really that hard?”

Zhang Zhentian felt excruciating pain in his heart. He now knew he had made a mistake, but the mistake had already been made. He thought he had received his punishment, but why wouldn’t Xia Jing show up, even though she knew he missed her so much? Zhang Zhentian opened the window and shouted at the sky with a heartbreaking cry, ”Heavens, why are you doing this to me? If it’s because I hurt Xia Jing and you want to punish me, I’ve endured it. But why do you keep helping Xia Jing hide from me, not letting me find her? Why? Are you content only when you see both me and Xia Jing in pain? Can’t you just let me see her once? Ah...”

After Zhang Zhentian had shouted, he turned around with tears in his eyes, and then sounds came from the sky.

Boom...boom...

An earth-shattering thunder boomed in the sky. The sudden thunder startled Zhang Zhentian, who thought he had angered the heavens. But he couldn’t have known that the heavens also had eyes, that they watched over everything below, only staying silent while knowing all.

Zhang Zhentian picked up his phone and scrolled through his contacts. Seeing Xia Jing’s number pinned at the top, he was filled with complex emotions. He hadn’t expected Xia Jing to take their relationship so seriously, and he wondered if Xia Jing would have stayed by his side if he hadn’t said those hurtful things. Zhang Zhentian had never regretted his actions before, but now he truly regretted them, because he loved Xia Jing and feared losing her.

Zhang Zhentian sent a message to Xia Jing, ”Dear Xia Jing, where are you? I learned from my father that you’ve come to the UK. Shortly after you arrived, I followed. I’m in the UK now, but I have no idea where you are, and I don’t know which corner of the UK to search for you. Yet, I can feel that you are near me. I’m longing to reunite with you, looking forward to you coming home with me, hoping you’ll come out and see me, waiting to travel the world hand in hand with you. Xia Jing, I truly love you. I don’t know if you can see this message, but if you do, I beg you to give me a chance to see you and a chance to explain. Okay? I am always waiting for you, Zhang Zhentian is asking for nothing but for you to come out.”

After sending the message, the previously asleep Xia Jing instinctively grabbed and checked her phone when it made a distinct sound. She wasn’t sure how to describe her feelings upon reading the message. Reading every word Zhang Zhentian sent, her heart ached as if being cut by a knife. She too wished to travel the world with Zhang Zhentian, but recalling the words he had said to her at the Zhang Family, she feared how she might appear in Zhang Zhentian’s heart. She was unsure whether she should meet him, her heart utterly concerned for him, yet Xia Jing didn’t know what she would say upon seeing him. Staring blankly at the message from Zhang Zhentian and seeing his deep affection towards her, she was torn between joy and sorrow.

Zhang Zhentian awaited Xia Jing’s reply, while she debated whether or not to see him. Torn by the decision, she finally resolved to meet Zhang Zhentian.

She sent a message back, ”Zhentian, I’ll wait for you in Cambridge tomorrow at noon. Just don’t be late, or I won’t meet you again.” Xia Jing sent the message with a threatening tone.

Ding-dong, wow, a message, a message...

Zhang Zhentian’s phone pinged, and upon seeing the message from Xia Jing, he didn’t care whether it was good or bad—as long as she had replied, it meant everything. Just as he was about to check the message, he hesitated, then clasped the phone with both hands, murmuring a prayer, hoping the message from Xia Jing was positive. After praying, he slowly opened his phone to read the message. The moment he saw it, he was so overjoyed he nearly took flight, believing that the heavens had heard his prayers and had granted him this small wish to make him happy.

Zhang Zhentian quickly replied, ”Okay, okay, wherever you say, whatever you say goes. As long as you’ll meet me, that’s all that matters. We’re set for tomorrow at noon, and I’ll be there on time for sure—don’t stand me up, haha!”

Xia Jing found Zhang Zhentian’s response childish. Annoyed, she muttered to herself, ”Who’s going to stand up whom is not certain yet. Honestly, why does he have to sound so punctual.”

In response, she messaged, ”I know, you’re so long-winded. Suddenly, I think noon is too late for tomorrow. How about we change it to six in the morning instead?”

Xia Jing wanted to see to what extent Zhang Zhentian would go for her.

Reading Xia Jing’s message, Zhang Zhentian was not upset by her sudden change of time. On the contrary, he took her reference to the later time to mean that she wanted more time together once they met. Thus, he readily agreed to her request.

”No problem, whatever time you say, [smile/smile],” Zhang Zhentian replied, not forgetting to send a few smiling emojis to Xia Jing.

Xia Jing, seeing the emojis, suddenly felt he had missed a beat, that while she was intentionally making things difficult for him, he had quickly agreed to her demands.

”Fine, if there’s nothing else, then get some rest early. See you tomorrow morning.”

Fearing he might oversleep in the morning, Zhang Zhentian decided to play it safe and walked to Cambridge in the middle of the night. Wandering there, he waited for the dawn. The nights in winter were long, and despite waiting and waiting, daylight did not come. The cold wind was piercing, shaking him to the bone, but to see Xia Jing, he stood there, braving the cold without taking a step away, afraid that Xia Jing would not find him if he turned his back.
