My Alleged Husband

Chapter 31: Chapter 31 Old Master Zhang Reveals the Truth_1

Old Master Zhang faced Zhang Zhentian’s stubbornness with both pride and helplessness. He was proud that Zhang Zhentian was indeed his son, their personalities were exactly alike; however, the helplessness came from the fact that once Zhang Zhentian made a decision, not even ten bulls could pull him back.

Now, Old Master Zhang began to hesitate again. He did not know if by telling Zhang Zhentian, his son would leave him to go to the UK to find Xia Jing. This uncertainty made Old Master Zhang unsure what to do. He did not want his son to just leave him and go to the UK to find Xia Jing, yet he was somewhat conflicted. He now genuinely considered Xia Jing a good girl from the bottom of his heart, and he wished his son would bring Xia Jing home as his bride. At the same time, he feared that once his son went to find Xia Jing, he might never come back.

Zhang Zhentian, facing his father who had been rendered speechless by his questioning, became even more certain that his father was hiding something from him, so Zhang Zhentian asked again and again.

”Dad, do you know where Xia Jing is? Tell me, don’t hide it from me. I believe you definitely know where she is, don’t try to deceive me with lies!” Zhang Zhentian roared angrily.

”I’m telling you again, I do not know where Xia Jing is,” Old Master Zhang decided not to reveal the truth.

”Dad, I’m begging you,” Zhang Zhentian pleaded and then knelt down before Old Master Zhang. While kowtowing, Zhang Zhentian implored his father, ”Dad, I implore you, please just tell me where Xia Jing is, okay?”

Seeing his son in such a state, Old Master Zhang did not know what to do. Although he wanted Xia Jing to be with his son, he really did not want his son to leave him again and go far away to a foreign land.

Zhang Zhentian, seeing Old Master Zhang without a reaction, kept kowtowing, kowtowing nonstop. Old Master Zhang was driven to his wit’s end by his actions and decided to negotiate a condition with Zhang Zhentian.

”Zhentian, I can tell you where Xia Jing is, but not without conditions,” Old Master Zhang said, playing coy.

Upon hearing that he could find out where Xia Jing was, Zhang Zhentian did not care about anything else and immediately asked, ”Dad, as long as you tell me where Xia Jing is, I’ll agree to any condition!”

Old Master Zhang, looking at such a lovesick Zhang Zhentian, did not know whether it was good or bad; he feared that this kind of Zhang Zhentian could be taken advantage of.

”Alright, since you’re saying that, Zhentian, I have a question for you, and you must answer me honestly,” Old Master Zhang sighed and said to Zhang Zhentian.

”Sure sure sure, Dad, you ask, and I will definitely answer you honestly,” Zhang Zhentian joyously assured Old Master Zhang.

”Zhentian, I want to know if I tell you where Xia Jing is, will you go find her immediately?”

”Of course,” Zhang Zhentian replied without hesitation. In saying this, he did not notice the emotion on Old Master Zhang’s face.

”Zhentian, then if you find Xia Jing, does that mean you won’t come back?” Old Master Zhang finally voiced his concern, his face full of hope as he looked at Zhang Zhentian. He was anticipating Zhang Zhentian’s answer, yet he feared that Zhang Zhentian would say ’Yes, once I find Xia Jing, I won’t come back!’ Seeing the hope in Old Master Zhang’s face, Zhang Zhentian realized what his own father was worried about. He knew that even though his father always scolded him for not being good enough, for being useless, he understood deep down that no matter what outrageous things he did, his father still cared for and loved him deeply. Therefore, he did not want to let his father down.

”Dad, where is your mind wandering to? How could I possibly not come back? This is my home, after all. And with you here, how could I not return? Don’t you think?” Zhang Zhentian declared his decision to Old Master Zhang.

Old Master Zhang listened, struggling to believe his own ears, and hurriedly asked Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhen, Zhentian, is everything you said true? Will you really come back after you find Xia Jing? You’re not lying to Dad?”

Zhang Zhentian, looking at his father like this, felt very uncomfortable. He knew his father was afraid of losing him, with Old Master Zhang looking at Zhang Zhentian full of hope.

Zhang Zhentian saw his father’s expression and felt a bit helpless, but at the same time, he felt a little guilty and pained.

Zhang Zhentian was very clear in his heart about how much his father had worried, how many tears he had shed, and how much suffering he had endured for his sake...

”Yes, I will definitely come back after I find Xia Jing. I will never leave you!” Zhang Zhentian assured his father, ”Believe me, I will return to this home. This place has my family, my memories, I won’t leave here.”

Old Master Zhang, seeing Zhang Zhentian so confident, didn’t know what else to say, and could only tell Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhentian, be careful on the road, go early and return early. You must bring Xia Jing back for me, okay?”

”Okay, rest assured! I’ll definitely bring your daughter-in-law back,” Zhang Zhentian said indignantly to his father. ”I will go early and return early. As soon as I find Xia Jing, I’ll come back!”

Old Master Zhang told Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhentian, Xia Jing is in the UK. That day, she came to the company to bid me farewell, saying she was going to leave here. I asked her why, and she told me that you two had quarreled and that you’d said a lot of harsh words. She said she had lost all hope, so she decided to leave this place. Secondly, she asked me to keep her secret. That’s why I never told you where Xia Jing had gone, and why I always made up other excuses to detain you whenever you wanted to go find her. Zhentian, I kept you from going to look for Xia Jing for so long. Do you hate Dad?”

Old Master Zhang looked at Zhang Zhentian and saw that his face looked very unpleasant. Finally, Zhang Zhentian took Old Master Zhang’s hand and gently said to him, ”Dad, I don’t hate you. I know you did it for a reason. Since Xia Jing asked you to keep her secret, how could I blame you? You are my father, after all.”

Old Master Zhang felt very relieved when he heard what Zhang Zhentian said to him.

”Dad, now that you have told me where Xia Jing is, does that mean you agree with me going to the UK to find Xia Jing?” Zhang Zhentian asked Old Master Zhang.

At this point, what else could Old Master Zhang say? He could only agree reluctantly.

”Hmm, you can go to the UK to find Xia Jing, but don’t forget the words you just said,” Old Master Zhang reminded Zhang Zhentian. ”You must remember to come back.”

Zhang Zhentian hugged Old Master Zhang tightly, leaned on his shoulder, and whispered in his ear, ”Dad, don’t worry. I will definitely come back. Take good care of yourself at home.”

”I will, and you must also take good care of yourself!” Old Master Zhang gently patted Zhang Zhentian’s back.

Zhang Zhentian let go of Old Master Zhang and turned around, leaving the Zhang Family behind.
