My Alleged Husband

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Awkwardness at the Airport_1

Zhang Zhentian gazed at the architecture of the UK from the plane, and he felt a bit downhearted. He had come to the UK to find Xia Jing, and now that Xia Jing had left him, he had to return to his hometown alone. He couldn’t shake the feeling of an ending.

As soon as Zhang Zhentian deplaned, he saw Li Jiayuan at the airport. He wanted to ignore her and take a detour around, but the moment Li Jiayuan spotted Zhang Zhentian, she was overwhelmed with excitement and dashed toward him. Zhang Zhentian saw Li Jiayuan’s action and knew exactly what she was up to. He grabbed his suitcase and ran as fast as he could, while Li Jiayuan, feeling increasingly discomforted by his evasiveness, chased after him relentlessly.

”My god, are you sick or something? Why the hell are you chasing me?” Zhang Zhentian turned around and yelled at Li Jiayuan while he was running. Li Jiayuan found his reaction so adorable that she pursued him even more vigorously.

”Xiao Tian Tian, don’t run!” Li Jiayuan called out to Zhang Zhentian in a coquettish voice. Zhang Zhentian felt like he was going to throw up upon hearing that, but Li Jiayuan found it amusing and called out even more enthusiastically.

”Xiao Tian Tian, oh Xiao Tian Tian, don’t run away...” Li Jiayuan ran faster and more spiritedly. Zhang Zhentian was scared to death by Li Jiayuan’s tenacity, and everyone at the airport looked at them. They all thought Li Jiayuan was chasing Zhang Zhentian because she liked him, but to Zhang Zhentian, Li Jiayuan was like a ghost he couldn’t shake off.

”Zhang Zhentian, you stop right there.” Li Jiayuan, tired of the chase, just bellowed at Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian stopped in his tracks and turned around to ask Li Jiayuan, ”I haven’t done anything to provoke you, why in the world are you acting crazy and chasing me?”

Zhang Zhentian’s face was stern, and he was clearly unhappy, especially after overhearing what the people at the airport were saying.

”Is there something wrong with that guy? Such a beautiful girl is chasing him, and he doesn’t care a bit. Could he be gay?”

”You shouldn’t say things like that. Maybe the guy already has a wife, you know?”

”Are you implying that if he already has a wife, then he is for sure a good husband?”

”Of course.”

”How do you know this man and this woman aren’t husband and wife? And how do you know he hasn’t abandoned her?”

......

Comment after comment was hurled toward Zhang Zhentian, making his head spin, while Li Jiayuan simply stood there grinning at him. Zhang Zhentian really wanted to slap her.

”Do you have no shame, woman? Chasing a man in broad daylight when we have nothing to do with each other. Get lost, now,” Zhang Zhentian said to Li Jiayuan.

”You’re saying we have nothing to do with each other?” Li Jiayuan retorted.

The onlookers at the airport were even more convinced that Zhang Zhentian was a heartbreaker.

”See, I told you, that guy is a heartbreaker.”

Zhang Zhentian was infuriated. He knew these people were all misunderstanding something but had no choice but to say to Li Jiayuan, ”You still have the nerve to come find me? If it weren’t for you, would my girlfriend and I have fought? Do you realize that because of your one remark, my girlfriend is still angry and hasn’t forgiven me? Because of your one remark, my girlfriend ran all the way to the UK, and after I chased her there with great effort, she left again. All of this is because of you. Are you just unable to bear seeing me have a better life than you? Why do you keep haunting me? Are you not satisfied until my girlfriend leaves me?”

Li Jiayuan had always thought of Zhang Zhentian as a man of few words, so when she learned that he was returning to the country today, she came here to wait for him. She wanted to stage a scene in front of everyone to make them believe that the son of the President of Zhang Corporation was a heartbreaker. However, she never expected Zhang Zhentian to be so articulate and leave her speechless.

”So it turns out, this girl looks so pretty, but who would have thought she’s actually a homewrecker, a mistress at that!”

”Exactly, it just goes to show you really can’t judge a book by its cover!”

Whispers and murmurs reached Li Jiayuan’s ears, igniting her fury, ”Zhang Zhentian, what nonsense are you spouting? You’re ruining my reputation; you have to take responsibility for me!”

”Hahahaha.” Zhang Zhentian couldn’t help but burst into laughter upon hearing Li Jiayuan’s argument.

”Zhang Zhentian, what are you laughing at?”

”Li Jiayuan, are you stupid, or is there something wrong with your brain? Do you even have a reputation to ruin? Or should I say, as the treasured daughter of Li Haixiao, the President of Li Corporation, do you even care about your so-called reputation? Have you forgotten how you made Xia Jing misunderstand us?” Zhang Zhentian mocked her.

”Oh, so this woman is the treasured daughter of Li Haixiao, no wonder she looked so familiar!”

”Yes, who would have thought that a respected lady would actually be a ruthless mistress destroying other people’s relationships? This truly reflects poorly on Li Haixiao’s upbringing. Thank goodness she’s not my daughter; if she were, I would have kicked her out of the house for such a disgraceful act a long time ago.”

...

The voices of the passersby grew louder, and many people who had just gotten off their flights couldn’t help but stop and watch the commotion.

Li Jiayuan, attempting to counter Zhang Zhentian, knew deep down that the whole matter had started because of her; she didn’t know how to respond to Zhang Zhentian. She wondered if Zhang Zhentian spoke to her with such an attitude because he already knew the truth about the incident.

A middle-aged person couldn’t hold back and directly addressed Li Jiayuan, ”Young lady, one should have a conscience. Do you think it’s right to break up other people’s relationships? You’ve torn apart two people who were in love; don’t you feel guilty? Be careful, or you may not receive good karma...”

The public pressure, initially directed at Zhang Zhentian, now overwhelmingly targeted Li Jiayuan after his comments, and Li Jiayuan felt very angry at the middle-aged person’s words.

”Is whether I feel guilty any of your concern? Is it up to you to decide whether what I do is right or wrong? Who are you to me? Even my dad has never spoken to me like this; you’re a stranger, unrelated to me, what gives you the right to talk to me like that?” Li Jiayuan yelled back at the middle-aged person, her tongue as sharp as ever, ”Oh, I get it now. Auntie, is it because you’ve been a mistress before and now you’re getting your retribution? Is that why you’re saying this about me?”

The middle-aged person was stunned by Li Jiayuan’s unexpected retort and didn’t respond right away. The onlookers, seeing no response from the middle-aged person, assumed she was admitting to it and started gossiping about her.

Once the middle-aged person snapped back to reality, she slapped Li Jiayuan and shouted at her, ”Watch your mouth! Do you know why I despise mistresses like you? Because my family was destroyed by a mistress. Let me tell you, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who are only fit to be someone’s mistress, dedicated to wrecking the harmony of other families, and the intelligent ones who know how hard it is to maintain a harmonious family and wouldn’t dream of destroying another’s marriage. And you, you’re the former.”

”What did you say?” Li Jiayuan asked the middle-aged person.

”Do I need to repeat myself? Do you think you’re so special because you’re a rich heiress? Do you think nobody else has money just because you do? I’ll tell you this: acting high-profile and living low-key is the right way; don’t spend your days coveting what you shouldn’t.” The middle-aged person then walked away.

Li Jiayuan was taken aback by the middle-aged person’s biting words, leaving her speechless. Those who had been pointing fingers at the middle-aged person now felt embarrassed, having misunderstood her.

As the crowd lost interest and dispersed, Zhang Zhentian took advantage of Li Jiayuan’s stunned silence to sneak away.
