Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 572: Chapter 346: Matchmaking (Part 2)

Wang Matchmaker was instantly dumbfounded: ”What? He’s not your son?”

She quickly shifted her gaze to the other one.

Wei Ziang hurriedly stepped back: ”Auntie, I just remembered I have something to do, so I’ll leave first.”

Liu Ze also quickly bowed: ”Auntie, I’ll be leaving as well.”

Then only Xiaomi was left by herself.

Wang Matchmaker: ”Madam Jiang, then your son?”

Second Aunt smiled and said: ”Although I think Miss Liu is great in many aspects, she doesn’t fancy my son, so there’s no need to force it.”

Wang Matchmaker was still not giving up: ”That’s no problem, feelings can develop over time. Besides, passing the Scholar exam at thirteen is quite remarkable, who wouldn’t like that?”

Second Aunt gently shook her head: ”Wang Matchmaker, you mentioned earlier that Miss Liu fell for Ze’er at first sight. Ze’er returned with my son this morning. When Miss Liu saw Ze’er, she also saw my son.”

”But she only likes Ze’er, and if you force her to marry my son, a lack of feelings would be the least of the issues. If word got out that you, Wang Matchmaker, are mismatching couples, wouldn’t that ruin your reputation?”

Wang Matchmaker was momentarily speechless, wishing she could turn back time to take back the confident words she just said about Miss Liu being interested in Liu Ze!

But Second Aunt wasn’t giving her the chance: ”Wang Matchmaker, it’s getting late, you might want to head back. Otherwise, it’ll be too dark to see the road.”

She didn’t even bother with the customary politeness of inviting her to stay for dinner.

Wang Matchmaker, left with no choice, could only muster a forced smile and hurriedly left.

Xiaomi, who had been following along, curiously looked at Second Aunt once the matchmaker left.

”Mom, didn’t you say you’d consider a match for brother after a couple of years? Why didn’t you just reject the matchmaker at first?”

Second Aunt closed the door: ”Though your brother isn’t planning to marry soon, it doesn’t hurt to hear about the girls Wang Matchmaker introduces, just during a cup of tea’s time.”

”Besides, Wang Matchmaker knows a lot of people. If you offend her, she might badmouth your brother outside, which wouldn’t be good either.”

Xiaomi thought that made sense.

”By the way mom, where are dad and brother? I haven’t seen them around.”

You’d think with a match proposed for brother, he’d be curious, but there’s no reaction from him at all.

”Well, about the game, didn’t you say anything? Yingying’s guard delivered a cartload of stuff in the afternoon, it’s so much that we can’t finish it all. Your dad and brother took it to the inn, and they haven’t come back yet.”

In the morning, Xiaomi and Yingying returned quickly on horseback, while the game was brought back by cart.

Though they hunted at Yingying’s estate, Xiaomi kept her catches for herself. The game from that side was usually sold by others, who directly gave the Silver Coin to Xiaomi.

Only a few of the game did Xiaomi choose to send home for the family to try.

But because they went so far yesterday and came back late at night, there wasn’t time to deal with the game, so it was all sent to the Jiang family this afternoon.

”It slipped my mind too. Oh right, mom, earlier a goat was sent home to be raised, how is it?”

This time, they caught another goat, alive. Since they caught it right under Yingying’s nose, it wasn’t appropriate to secretly hide it in a space, and bringing it to Xiangmu Village was a hassle.

So they had it sent here first.

”It’s alive in the backyard. I’ll take you to see it.” Second Aunt led Xiaomi to the back: ”Oh, the person who delivered the goat said you wanted to roast it whole?”

”Yeah, the goat was injured anyway. Isn’t it going to be mine and Xiaowei’s birthday in a few days? I wanted to invite Sister Yingying over for a meal.”

Little Snow was already making dinner, with Liu Ze helping out and Xiaowei tending the fire.

The candles were already lit in Wei Ziang’s room; it seemed the matchmaker scared him into retreating to read.

Back when the family was poor, they used oil lamps at night, but now that conditions have improved, Jiang Hu bought candles for the children who study and write.

He especially instructed Little Snow and Second Aunt not to do sewing or embroidery once it got dark to avoid straining their eyes.

Second Aunt quickly led Xiaomi to the back of the kitchen, where a goat was tied to a wooden stake, with a haystack underneath it and some more covering it.

Or rather, the goat had burrowed into the haystack to keep warm.

It was already December, and the weather was cold—seemingly colder than in Cheng County.

”The goat injured its thigh, and on the way here the injury worsened a bit. Though Ziang treated it, it’s so cold that the area around the wound got frostbitten.”

The goat was kneeling on the ground and wouldn’t stand even when people approached, only letting out ’baa baa’ sounds.

”Mom, I’ll get some water for it.” Xiaomi turned and left, soon returning with a bucket of water, pouring it into a stone trough in front of the goat.

The goat didn’t resist at all, immediately lowering its head to drink.

Second Aunt was a bit surprised: ”You’ve really got a knack for this. Before when we tried to feed it water or grass, it wouldn’t take any of it, and I was worried it wouldn’t last until your birthday.”

Xiaomi chuckled: ”I’ll go see if I can find some fresh wild grass outside the city tomorrow. This goat was raised in the mountains, so it might not be used to this kind of feed.”

There are farmers around Nanyang Prefecture who specialize in raising goats; she had heard about it from Sister Yingying not long ago.

In winter when fresh grass is scarce, farmers feed them stored dry hay. ℯ

Yet the wild goat, roaming the forest daily, would invariably find some thorny wild grass with green leaves, naturally unaccustomed to this dry hay.

Nonetheless, Xiaomi didn’t actually plan to search for wild grass; it was just an excuse to secretly feed it with feed from her space tomorrow.

Just like the Spiritual Spring water she brought over.

There’s still a few days left. With more Spiritual Spring water, the roast goat will definitely taste better!
