The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 590: Chapter 590- Knight Giacomo

The thing in front of them looked like a mountain of flesh. It was both vile and disturbing.

”Flesh Giant.”

Reinhardt slowly murmured and stepped forward. His aura flared brighter.

GRROARR...

In the distance, the giant demon roared and charged at them.

BOOM... BOOM...

With each step it took, the ground shook, no, bounced violently.

The battle ensued.

With Reinhardt taking care of the Flesh Giant and stopping it before it could crash onto the formation, the knights could give it their all and face the tide of onrushing Flesh Demons.

The battle blurred into a scene of endless violence.

Surrounded from all corners, the knights fought like living bastions of light within the suffocating darkness of the Abyss Nest.

Radiant blades carved through waves of flesh, and Holy Skills disintegrated the grotesque bodies into ashes.

In this place where there was no sun or sky, time lost all meaning.

Time passed by.

Minutes, hours, or perhaps longer.

After the flesh demons, the nest repeatedly threw more and more obstacles at them. Yet Reinhardt led his knights without faltering.

Under his leadership, they carved a way through the stomach of the Abyss Nest.

”She is closer. I can sense it.”

Throughout the march, Reinhardt kept the Origin Seed in his left hand. Each time he lifted his palm, the seed would glow, stronger and brighter the deeper they went.

The Origin Seed had become like a compass, pointing and leading him towards the person he was searching for.

Reinhardt’s eyes hardened, and he slowly increased his pace.

Just be safe.

Despite what he had told Erza, despite what his actions seemed like a rescue operation from the surface, he was in truth searching for a single existence.

This entire rescue operation was for a single person.

Cecilia, the High Elf.

She was the reason he had dived into the mouth of the Abyss Nest. Saving survivors was secondary; his primary priority was her.

She was the only existence alive in this world who could resurrect the World Tree and give humanity a chance to strike back.

For his plans to bear fruit, he needed to save her at all costs.

.

.

With Reinhardt at the front, the Temple of Light continued their relentless march through the bowels of the Abyss Nest.

The deeper they went, the more violent the nest became.

It unleashed swarms upon swarms of Flesh Demons, towering amalgamations of corpses burst through buildings, and toxic swarms cut their retreat.

The nest released all kinds of traps to corner its prey.

Though none of it managed to stop them.

Reinhardt’s blade carved open every path, and each obstacle was easily overcome. They were like an unstoppable force, cutting their way into the stomach of the Abyss Nest.

That said, as they headed deeper and deeper, they began to realize how nightmarish this place was.

At first, they believed that there might be some survivors who managed to stay alive by hiding themselves.

However, the longer they lingered, the more that hope seemed to be snuffed out completely. Given the condition and situation of this place, it would be a miracle if even a single person survived.

What’s more, the deeper they went, the more brutal that truth became.

Every place they searched had already been consumed, every street was filled with transformed citizens.

Forget about a single survivor, the only things that were waiting for them there were demons and unsettling silence.

Still, the knights did not say anything. They simply tightened their grips on their weapons and followed their commander without hesitation.

If Reinhardt believed someone was still alive, then they would fight until their last breath to reach them.

Time passed by in a blur.

Having defeated yet another swarm, the members of the Temple of Light stopped in a clearing to catch their breath and restore their mana.

Usually, Reinhardt would only allow a swift moment for his knights to compose themselves before pressing onwards.

However, this time he did not do so. Instead, he instructed everyone to rest here and restore their powers, while he stood there on guard.

Although his unclouded eyes looked ahead at the fleshy corridor writhing sporadically, his mind, however, went into overdrive, recalling all the battles and ambushes they had gone through so far.

There was a single hint to be learned from each of them, and soon, a pattern emerged.

The Abyss Nest had been attacking them constantly. But strangely enough, it never used its overwhelming force.

Don’t think that the Flesh Demons and Flesh Giants were the only horrors the Abyss Nest was capable of unleashing.

These swarms were only low-level threats.

An Abyss Nest was capable of unleashing even more terrifying things.

Mid- and high ranking demons, and the most troublesome of all, the Soul Collectors.

In Reinhardt’s memory, the ones who unleashed hell upon the allied forces were precisely these ghastly abominations without a tangible body.

Their attacks were powerful and difficult to defend against.

Had it been the Soul Collectors swarming them instead of the Flesh Demons, the journey here wouldn’t have been that simple.

Yet it did not do so.

Why?

Reinhardt narrowed his eyes, recalling all the information he had about the Abyss Nest.

Was it because this Abyss Nest was still in its embryonic form?

Was it incapable of spawning higher-level demons?

No, the stage of the Abyss Nest was not the issue. The density of the demonic energy here was powerful enough to spawn all kinds of high ranking demons.

The embryonic form was not the issue here.

Then could it be...

Reinhardt’s mind reeled back.

During all the encounters so far, the nest never tried to kill them in one go. It unleashed swarms upon swarms on them in an attempt to delay and exhaust them. Lead them deeper into despair.

But more importantly, it was trying to keep them away from somewhere.

Reinhardt slowly turned his gaze.

The Abyss Nest had swallowed the city, and all he could see was pulsating flesh and darkness.

That said, from his memories and mental map, he recalled that was where the royal palace of Lunaris was located.

And although the Abyss Nest tried to cover it well, every time he had attempted to move in that direction, the resistance had intensified.

That was the answer.

All the pieces of the puzzle clicked.

Reinhardt lifted the Origin Seed in his hand higher. In that direction, the seed pulsed with a strong light.

There was no doubt now, that’s where she was.

Reinhardt turned to face his knights.

However, when he saw their exhausted bodies, the command he was about to give got stuck in his throat.

Even with the buffs from his titles, they were still worn down.

The knights were relatively fine. However, maybe it was still too much for the squires and recruits.

If they headed any deeper, they might collapse from exhaustion or show openings.

This would put pressure on their comrades next to them, which would ultimately drop the efficiency of the whole order.

Going any deeper would put lives in danger.

Although facing his gaze, these recruits tried to show cheerful smiles, it was all just a front.

Their attitude seemed to be saying that they would follow all his commands even if their bodies broke in the process.

Their blazing will and determination to keep enduring made Reinhardt smile. In them, he saw the future knights and heroes of the realm.

And thus, he made up his mind.

”Listen carefully, all of you. I have identified where the person we are searching for is. The heart of the Abyss Nest is there. But it is deliberately slowing us down. Hence, from now on we are changing tactics. From this point onward, command of the order is transferred to Bob”...

”Zerina and Marcus, you two will support him in leading the order out of the nest. Although I told Erza to hold off on her plans of destroying the nest, who knows how long that woman will listen”...

”You all get out of here before it gets worse.”

The three Holy Knights seemed to have sensed something as their eyes went wide in realization.

”Commander...”

However, before they could say further, Reinhardt raised his hands and stopped them.

”Hurry and move.”

The order was given; there was nothing more to discuss.

The Holy Knights only hesitated for a while. Then after bowing towards him, they led the still confused order backtracking the way they came from.

Reinhardt sent them off with his eyes.

This was good; the nest was not an easy enemy to face. He didn’t want these young and bright souls to throw away their lives here. They still had lots of potential and a future.

Having made up his mind, Reinhardt did not waste his time either. His destination was the royal palace.

Reinhardt raced alone toward the heart of the nightmare.

Now that he no longer had to restrain himself for the sake of his order, he unleashed his true speed.
