The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 108: Chapter 108- The Senate (7)

Baron Chetak pointed at the noble who was vehemently trying to pin the blame on Reinhardt earlier.

”What nonsense. I have nothing to do with such illegal activities. Don’t speak without proof, Chetak” Ares hollered.

”Proof? If you want proof, we can just search your mansion. If there indeed is no relation whatsoever with the slave trading, then there is no need for you to worry. That said, there is no need to go to your territory, I already have all the proof that I need right here”.

Reinhardt brought out all the documents he kept in his [Dimensional Storage] for safekeeping.

”You wanted to get rid of the proof so badly that you didn’t think things through. Not only did you try to bomb the inn the council made me stay at, but you even sent assassins to silence Chetak”.

At this moment, the door to the hall was pushed open again, and knights from the Order of the Temple of Light entered.

”Commander, we managed to subdue the people who tried to attack the senate. Although most of them drank poison right after getting defeated, we managed to stop one of the guys before he could do so.”

Marcus reported. He stripped the mask covering the face of the captured assailant.

”Hmm? This guy...” Marquis Herman arched his brows.

”Do you recognise him?” On Reinhardt’s question, the former nodded his head.

”If I’m not wrong, he is the knight from the order serving Count Ares”.

With even Marquis Herman confirming the identity of the assassin, there was no denying the truth now. All eyes turned towards Count Ares, whose face was so white that it looked like all of his blood had been drained away.

”No... No... No... This is not happening...” Immediately, he tried to run away, an extremely foolish move. Did he think that a level 1 like him could run away from a room with knights present?

”Capture him,” Marquis Herman silently gave his order.

A knight from the Royal Lion Knight appeared in front of Count Ares like a ghost and kicked him into the ground.

”R-Release me... I’m a count, you can’t do this to me!!”

Nobody paid attention to him anymore. Standing on the trial, Reinhardt proceeded to present all of the proofs he collected in front of the council.

”Your Majesty, these documents record all the transactions that Baron Chetak made with his other sellers and Count Ares”.

Hamilton took the documents, analysed them before bringing them to the king.

”Hmm, it looks like you were indeed speaking the truth. Baron Chetak and Count Ares were indeed involved in this. The stamp of their noble houses is clearly marked in these documents. Additionally, it also lists others who were involved in this. Looks like there is a need for a reckoning army...”

At those words from the king, the faces of the nobles paled. Although most of them had nothing to do with slave trading, it didn’t mean that their hands were completely clean.

”Un, in accordance with all of the proof that you have presented, one thing becomes certain. You have dutifully completed the mission that was given to you. Additionally, you also caught those involved in slave trading that the queen banned, thus performing another great service for the kingdom. Hmm, I have decided.”

The king stood up and declared ”From the recent expedition, it is clear that Reinhardt Arcknight’s strength has not deteriorated. Moreover, his loyalty still lies towards the kingdom and the crown”...

”As such, for this hearing, I declare that the Divine Paladin is to be allowed to continue to provide his service to the kingdom. Does the council disagree with my decision?”

With the king having made his decision, there was nothing the elders could say at this point to drag Reinhardt down.

Through his latest expedition, not only did he complete the mission that other knight orders failed, but he also did a great service to the nation by revealing those who had their hands on illegal salve trading.

Reinhardt was surrounded by a halo right now; in fact, if they recklessly touched that halo right now, they risked the chance of getting burned. For the time being, they decided to let Reinhardt be.

The hearing was adjourned, and the Commander of the Temple of Light, who was on trial, was absolved of his charges. He was to continue acting as the Commander of the Temple of Light and protect the nation from the forces of darkness.

As for Baron Chetak and Count Ares, they were taken into custody by the guards. The documents that Reinhardt provided, which contained the transactions of slaves between Baron Chetak and many of his clients, needed to be thoroughly checked, and the ones found guilty need to be brought to justice.

One by one, the members of the council left, some giving Reinhardt unfriendly looks. The King and Queen also left together. The former, just before exiting, turned to look at the knight, her veil stopping others from seeing her face.

”That was a fun show. I expect great things from you, Commander of the Order of the Temple of Light. Ah, come to the palace tomorrow, there is an event I would very much like you to be present at”.

Saying that, she turned around and joined the king, who was waiting for her in the distance.

Now left with only the members of his Order of the Temple of Light and Zerina, Reinhardt smiled in relief. Although his outward appearance hardly showed any reaction to the events that occurred today, inwardly, he was sweating bullets.

This was a senate, you know, it was the equivalent of a courtroom trial on earth. Of course, he would be a little nervous.

”Commander, it looks like it went smoothly.”

”Now those Council of Elders won’t be after us for a while. Honestly, with them constantly on our asses, it was starting to get a little annoying.”

The knights of the order rejoiced.
