Chapter 6238: The Unreliable Old Cat

Chu Feng and the others left via the passageway they came by and met with the Immortal Sea Fish Clan’s Clan Chief and the others. Due to Old Cat’s urging, Chu Feng quickly filled them in about what he would do next.

The Immortal Sea Fish Clan’s Clan Chief and the others wanted to follow Chu Feng to the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion, but Chu Feng firmly turned them down.

The Immortal Sea Fish Clan’s Clan Chief wanted to tag along because his clan owed Chu Feng a favor, and they wanted to do something for him, but he also understood that it was unlikely he could contribute much when there was a powerhouse of Old Cat’s caliber around.

Thus, he requested a recommendation letter from Chu Feng before leading the Immortal Sea Fish Clan to the Totem Galaxy to meet with the Totem Dragon Clan.

He knew about Chu Feng’s ties with the Totem Dragon Clan. He would be partially repaying Chu Feng’s favor if he could keep the Totem Dragon Clan safe.

Little Fishy and Xianhai Shaoyu wanted to follow Chu Feng, but Chu Feng refused to let them come along. They had no choice but to follow their clan to the Totem Dragon Clan.

On their way to the Totem Dragon Clan, Xianhai Shaoyu shared with his grandfather and his parents in greater detail what they had encountered in the Ancient Era’s War Clan.

Upon learning the full story, the faces of the Immortal Sea Fish Clan’s upper echelons turned grim. Old Cat’s appearance shattered their common sense about the world of cultivation.

“If he’s already this strong after fusing with his carcass, just how powerful are the so-called Ancient Era’s saint beasts? How many more formidable Ancient Era’s races are there that we don’t know about?”

Even Xianhai Shaoyu’s grandfather, despite his usual optimism, felt a wave of pessimism. He was worried that there were more terrifying powers among the Ancient Era’s races other than the God Clan and the Ancient Era’s saint beasts.

How were the present-era cultivators supposed to cope with that?

...

On Chu Feng’s side, Old Cat took out a sword that was originally a meter in length, but it had extended to over ten meters long. It was not a weapon but a treasure intended for fast travel.

Their current traveling speed was nowhere on par with the Nine Heavens Secret Domain’s teleportation formations, but Chu Feng was hesitant to reveal that to Old Cat and Jie Shanxian.

The two of them sat on the sword as they traveled through a teleportation passageway. By now, they were already nearing the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion.

Along the way, Old Cat engaged Chu Feng in conversations, but he would secretly nudge the subject toward Chu Feng’s father to gather more information. There were some secrets Chu Feng couldn’t say, but more often than not, he didn’t have the answer to Old Cat’s questions.

His understanding of his father was severely limited.

“Brother Chu Feng, you’re too tight-lipped. I only want to know more because I’m grateful to your father; I bear no malicious intention.” Old Cat was frustrated to see Chu Feng shaking his head at all his questions.

“It’s not that I don’t want to tell you; I don’t have the answers,” Chu Feng replied.

Old Cat didn’t believe him.

“Who don’t I share a secret with you too? Do you know why Lord Zhenlong wishes to enter the Ninth Galaxy? It’s because I told him the world of cultivation’s secret,” Old Cat said.

“What’s the secret?”

“I might have suffered a memory loss, but I still remember plenty of things. I can tell you with certainty that the current eight galaxies are different from how they were in the Ancient Era.”

“Are the current eight galaxies fake?”

“No, they aren’t fake. It’s just that many realms are gone missing, and those that remain have become smaller to different degrees. I don’t know the reason behind this phenomenon, but the natural energies have also become much thinner. It is nowhere close to the Ancient Era.

“Yet, the Ninth Galaxy remains the same. That’s why cultivators have to enter the Ninth Galaxy if they hope to make a breakthrough,” Old Cat said.

Those words were similar to what he had heard from the middle-aged, red-cloaked man he saved from the God Clan.

“Brother Chu Feng, I have already told you such a huge secret. You should tell me more about your father too. I truly bear no hostility,” Old Cat said.

“Old Cat, I truly don’t know. You can rest assured that my father likely intervened to help you; I don’t think he has any other intention. You are an Ancient Era’s saint beast. You should be able to tell if there’s anything amiss with your body, right?” Chu Feng asked.

“Look at how narrow-minded you are. Why do you think the worst of me? Why would I be skeptical of my benefactor? All I want to do is to know more about my benefactor. Forget it. I shan’t ask anymore since you’re so reluctant to speak. Just watch how I rescue your mother. I shall show the measly Seven Realms Sacred Mansion what I’m capable of!”

Old Cat took out a talisman paper; it was imbued with the Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief’s aura. It must have been stolen from him.

The talisman paper transformed into an aura that flowed into the sword beneath them. The sword swelled with spirit power before abruptly piercing through the teleportation passageway, causing them to emerge in the middle of space.

There was a massive realm not too far away from them—it was the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s headquarters. The realm was brighter than before because it was wrapped in a protective formation.

“Hoh, are they holing themselves in? Brother Chu Feng, do you have a way to breach that formation?” Old Cat asked.

Chu Feng examined the protective formation, but he was unable to see through it. “I wouldn’t have sought your help if I could do so.”

“We’ll have to brute force it then. I’ll show you what I’m capable of.”

Without any hesitation, Old Cat hurled his fist at the massive realm.

Despite his small stature, his punch rattled the void as it gushed toward the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion with a golden radiance. It felt like a realm’s worth of martial power was packed inside his fist.

Yet, this powerful attack failed to damage the protective formation or even produce a sound against it. It was almost as if Old Cat’s attack had been devoured.

“What the...” Old Cat was stunned.

He did consider the possibility that his attack might fail to shatter the protective formation; it was just a probing strike, after all. However, he didn’t think that it would fail to even scratch it.

“Old Cat, we need to run!” Chu Feng exclaimed.

Old Cat finally snapped out of his daze.

Clearly, they had underestimated the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion. If they had such a powerful protective formation, who could guarantee that they didn’t have a slaughter formation of the same caliber too?

Old Cat took out a talisman paper, but a gush of energy suddenly enveloped the two of them from behind. It caused their movements to be delayed as if they were moving in viscous fluid.

Old Cat activated the talisman paper, and it transformed into a surge of aura and fused with the sword beneath them. The sword glowed brilliantly, but nothing else happened aside from that.

“Crap.” Cold sweat dripped from Old Cat’s face.

The talisman paper should have transported them into the nearest teleportation formation, allowing them to quickly retreat from this place. However, the energy binding them had not only restricted their movements but their means too.

Chu Feng activated Heaven’s Eyes to figure out a way to break free from this restraint.

Old Cat’s paws suddenly appeared before him. On one paw was the box containing the black metal lump, and on the other paw was a talisman paper. It was the talisman paper Chu Feng and Lord Zhenlong and helped him repair.

Old Cat looked at Chu Feng with apologetic eyes. “Brother Chu Feng, think of these as my gifts if you’re able to survive this ordeal. Otherwise, I’ll avenge you by destroying the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion after I advance my cultivation.”

Chu Feng was horrified to hear that. “What do you mean by that, Old Cat? Are you abandoning me?”

“Don’t blame me for this, Brother Chu Feng. It wasn’t easy for me to partially recover my bloodline. It’s my chance to return to my former glory. I can’t die a dog’s death here. That would be too sad. I owe you a favor for this, and I’ll compensate you if we ever meet again!”

Old Cat crushed a talisman paper, and the talisman paper released a powerful surge of energy.

“Old Cat, where has your loyalty gone? Take me with you!”

The talisman paper was potent enough for Old Cat to bring Chu Feng with him, but Old Cat chose to use all the talisman paper’s energy on himself, lest the energy wasn’t enough for him to break free of the restraint. With a flash of light, Old Cat vanished into thin air.

“Damn it. That cat is unreliable!” Chu Feng was rendered speechless.

He had teleportation talisman papers too, but those weren’t potent enough to overcome the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s formation.

A spirit formation gate appeared in the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s protective formation. Warships flew out from the spirit formation gate and made their way toward Chu Feng. They had noticed his presence.

Just then, spirit power suddenly flowed out from his body and enveloped him and Old Cat’s box. This surge of spirit power rendered even the formation restraining him useless.

He quickly fled further out into space. His movement speed was far superior to the members of the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion.

Chu Feng breathed a sigh of relief. “At least there’s a reliable one here.”

It was Jie Shanxian who helped him.
