Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

199: Good teamworkAi Yue watched him with a smile and didn’t stop him, letting him search through the pile of zombies.

”Hey, what’s going on? Why isn’t there anything?” Gong Qiumu searched four or five corpses in a row but didn’t find any crystal cores.

Later, he figured it out. How could someone as shrewd as Ai Yue simply miss it if she had encountered one? And the zombie that lunged at him today was different from the others; it was too fast and too agile. If Ai Yue hadn’t appeared in time, he probably would have joined the zombie army himself.

So all of this indicated that the zombie lunging at him was special, and only such zombies had crystal cores. The annoying part was that he was still here searching like a fool.

Gong Qiumu returned to Ai Yue’s side indignantly and said unhappily, ”Sister Ai Yue, you knew all along that the other zombies didn’t have crystal cores, so why didn’t you tell me? You were just watching me make a fool of myself!”

”That’s right, I was just watching your joke,” Ai Yue said with a beaming smile.

”You... you’re really too much!” A flush appeared on the young man’s face as he spoke in annoyance.

”Alright, Qiumu, you’re the one being stupid, so don’t blame others. Look at all of us; why were you the only one eagerly rummaging through the pile of zombies? Can you please think a bit more before you act in the future?” Gong Qiuqiu gave him a helpless slap.

”Brother! I just lack experience; it doesn’t mean I’m stupid,” the boy said defiantly.

”I’m not saying you’re stupid, I’m asking if you can stop being so impulsive and reckless when things happen?” Gong Qiuqiu explained patiently.

The boy curled his lips and whispered, ”I know. Brother, stop lecturing me, I’m getting annoyed.”

The gentle expression on Gong Qiuqiu’s face cracked slightly, and he kicked him without hesitation.

Gong Qiumu didn’t dare say anything else, clutching his rear as he hid to the side.

”Ai Yue, was that zombie just now the upgraded type Mo Li mentioned?” Gong Qiuqiu stopped paying attention to Gong Qiumu and asked Ai Yue.

”Exactly! This is an Upgraded Zombie after mutation. Once they upgrade, they become much more powerful. Newly Upgraded Zombies are mainly characterized by extreme speed and relying on the element of surprise. As long as we’re prepared, they’re easy to deal with,” Ai Yue continued to explain.

”So, is it only the Upgraded Zombies that have crystal cores, while the most common ones don’t?” Mo Li asked.

”Yes.”

”In that case, does it mean that for every level a zombie rises, its crystal core becomes more useful to us?” Mo Li’s eyes lit up as he continued to ask.

”The principle is correct, but with every level, the zombie’s abilities also evolve a step further, making them even more formidable.”

”They get stronger, but we aren’t exactly idling either. With crystal cores, we’ll get stronger too, right? So what’s there to fear!” Mo Li said nonchalantly.

Ai Yue remained noncommittal and didn’t say anything more.

”Brother Mo Li, your way of thinking is very dangerous. Those are zombies; who knows what abilities they’ll evolve? So we still can’t be careless and should remain cautious,” Ye Rui said with a frown.

Hearing this, Mo Li suddenly realized he had become a bit overconfident. His expression turned serious as he said, ”You’re right. I was being arrogant.”

”Let’s go, let’s keep moving,” Ai Yue said.

The closer they got to the Yingjin Safety Tower, the more zombies they encountered, including several upgraded ones.

Even though the zombies had upgraded, facing a prepared group like Ai Yue’s, they could only end up having their crystal cores dug out.

By the time they reached the outskirts of the Safety Tower, everyone had a white crystal in hand.

The group looked at the ”sea of people” that was the zombie horde, and their hearts felt a bit...

chilled.

”Brother, there are too many. We can’t fight this many. We should run while they haven’t noticed us!” Gong Qiumu whispered.

”Run? We’re already here, and you want to desert? It’s probably too late for that now,” Mo Li couldn’t help but tease upon hearing him.

”Hmph, I’m not. This is a wise idea. Should we insist on doing something we know is impossible? How is that different from seeking death?” Gong Qiumu retorted defiantly.

”What are you afraid of? Our group is so strong; we can kill our way in and out without any pressure. Besides, there are definitely many Upgraded Zombies in there. Aren’t you tempted?”

Gong Qiumu’s expression softened a bit. He also wanted to save up more crystal cores to increase his strength.

Currently, he and Mo Li were the weakest in the group, and he didn’t want to fall behind.

”Hmph, you have a point. However, I’ll listen to my brother. If he says stay, we stay; if he says go, we go!”

Gong Qiumu leaned toward Gong Qiuqiu. ”Brother, what do you think? Are we staying or leaving?”

Gong Qiuqiu glanced at Ai Yue. Seeing that she had no intention of leaving, he said, ”This is also an opportunity to improve our strength. It’s best not to let it pass.”

”Fine, I’ll listen to you, Brother. I’ll definitely kill a few more Upgraded Zombies.”

”Don’t be reckless in a moment. Protect yourself and don’t get hurt!” Gong Qiuqiu instructed.

”Don’t worry, Brother. I definitely won’t let myself get hurt,” Gong Qiumu guaranteed solemnly.

”You’d better just stay close to me!” Gong Qiuqiu looked at his confident appearance and felt a bit worried, finally adding that he still wasn’t quite at ease.

”Alright!”

Ai Yue observed for a while. It would be impossible for just the few of them to kill all these zombies; they would die of exhaustion first.

However, clearing a path to the main gate of the Safety Tower would be quite easy.

”Dad, Rui Rui, in a moment we’ll stick together to lead the way at the front. Try to coordinate our attacks. Mom, you stay in the middle of us; if you see anyone’s Superpower consumption getting too high, give them a Healing. Gong Qiuqiu, the three of you stay in the back and attack the zombies closing in. How does that sound?” Ai Yue suggested as the group gathered to discuss.

”Okay, no problem!” Gong Qiuqiu and the others agreed. After all, Ai Yue had taken on the most difficult part.

”Good, we’ll set out now. Once we reach the base entrance, we’ll have to rely on you, Mo Li, to show your face so they’ll open the gate and let us in.”

Mo Li nodded and said, ”Don’t worry, no problem!”

After the plan was set, the group didn’t delay. With Ai Yue’s family leading the way, they instantly tore a gap in the zombie tide. Everyone stayed close together, continuously slaughtering their way through as they quickly approached the base entrance.

After a few days of working together, the group had developed a very tacit cooperation. Even when encountering Upgraded Zombies, they could kill them and dig out the crystal cores in a very short time without falling behind at all.

In this manner, the group reached the base entrance with composure and great speed.

At this moment, they weren’t tired at all and still looked full of energy. All of this was thanks to Li Shilan’s Healing.

Without her Healing, although the group would have still reached their destination unharmed, they certainly wouldn’t have been this relaxed.
