Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

178: Let’s get married.”Exactly! Fortunately, they can’t get in. Even if they smell it, it’s fine. They would never believe we’re actually grilling mutton and various skewers here,” Li Shilan chimed in with a relaxed expression.

Hearing their analysis, Ye Rui felt even less pressure and began eating with even more gusto.

In just a short while, ten large meat skewers had already disappeared into her stomach.

The group continued eating and drinking on the mountain peak, not taking the people below the mountain seriously at all.

The moment the mini drone was blasted by Ai Yue, the control panel in Chen Yang’s hand went black instantly; he couldn’t see anything anymore.

The moment the control panel went black, Chen Yang immediately looked up at the sky above.

”Chen Yang, what are you looking at? What’s going on? Why did it suddenly go black?” Xu Qi asked.

Chen Yang looked at the clear sky and breathed a sigh of relief, raising his hand to wipe away the cold sweat from the scare.

Only then did he answer, ”Ai Yue discovered it. The drone was destroyed by her.”

Xu Qi’s eyes widened. Realizing something, he also immediately looked up at the sky.

Seeing his reaction, Chen Yang chuckled softly. ”Relax, there are no thunderclouds overhead, and no lightning. It seems she’s not going to hold it against us.”

Seeing that everything was normal around them, Xu Qi finally felt at ease and plopped down on the ground. ”We’d better not try to spy on Ai Yue anymore. If we make her angry and she treats us to a few more rounds of lightning, it won’t be a laughing matter.”

”Yeah, look at the miserable state the Young General and Miss Siyu were in after being struck. We should just stay here quietly and keep watch,” Chen Yang said with a sigh, sitting down beside Xu Qi.

”Right, right!” Xu Qi agreed repeatedly... ”Sister, it’s been three days already. Why hasn’t this smoke dissipated yet?” Squatting at the edge of the mountain peak, Ye Rui rested her chin on her hands, boredly watching the gray smoke below that hadn’t thinned at all, and grumbled to Ai Yue who was sitting nearby.

Hearing this, Ai Yue also expressed her helplessness; she didn’t know either.

With a wave of her hand, a satellite phone appeared in her grasp. ”I’ll call Gu Xiheng and ask him exactly when this fog is going to clear!”

Ai Yue spoke in a foul mood.

She had thought the fog would dissipate in about three days, but she hadn’t expected that after three days, there wasn’t even a sign of it clearing.

The call was quickly picked up by an unfamiliar man.

Ai Yue stated her identity and said she wanted to speak with Gu Xiheng on the phone.

”Alright, Miss Ai, please wait a moment!” After the other person spoke, he went to find Gu Xiheng and handed him the phone.

”Ai Yue, it’s me. You were looking for me?” Gu Xiheng felt a bit of joy in his heart. Hearing that it was a call from Ai Yue specifically asking for him by name, he immediately took the phone, the corner of his mouth curling slightly as he spoke.

He thought Ai Yue was calling to check on his injuries.

He didn’t expect that as soon as Ai Yue spoke, she shattered his fantasy.

”Yes. I’m asking you, when will the smoke on the mountain dissipate?” Ai Yue asked straightforwardly.

”You’re calling me just for this?” The smile at the corner of Gu Xiheng’s mouth vanished without a trace.

”Otherwise?” Ai Yue was a bit surprised; she didn’t understand why he would ask that.

Gu Xiheng knew he shouldn’t have any more feelings for Ai Yue, but at this moment, he still felt a bit disappointed.

”Nothing. The smoke in the mountains won’t dissipate until half a month from now. The moment the smoke clears, we will enter the mountain and take up station,” Gu Xiheng’s tone was slightly stiff.

”Half a month? That long? What happens if we come into contact with the smoke?” Having learned the specific timeframe, Ai Yue rubbed her brow irritably and continued to ask.

”Nothing much. You’ll just fall into a deep sleep for three days and three nights.”

”Alright then.” Ai Yue nodded, helplessly accepting reality. ”Okay, that’s all. I’m hanging up!”

Ai Yue finished speaking and hung up the phone decisively.

Hearing the dial tone from the other end, Gu Xiheng’s clenched fist tightened further, revealing his inner turmoil.

He took a deep breath and put down the phone expressionlessly.

He turned his head only to see Cheng Siyu, who had appeared at the door at some unknown time.

Gu Xiheng’s brow furrowed slightly as he said, ”Why did you come out of your room? Your injuries this time are quite severe. If there’s nothing important, you should lie in bed and rest properly. Don’t wander around.”

Cheng Siyu smiled slightly, her usual coldness instantly softening. ”I was worried about you, so I came to see you. Since I’m already here, don’t drive me away. Let me rest here for a bit before I go, alright?”

Cheng Siyu spoke with a gentle expression.

Seeing her sickly appearance and hearing her words, Gu Xiheng didn’t say anything more. He waved his hand, letting her sit in a chair.

Facing Gu Xiheng’s somewhat cold demeanor, Cheng Siyu didn’t mind and slowly sat down in a chair not far from him.

Neither of them spoke, and for a moment, the room fell silent.

”Xiheng, that was Ai Yue calling just now, wasn’t it? Was she asking when we’re going?” Cheng Siyu was the first to break the silence in the room.

Gu Xiheng didn’t hide anything and answered directly, ”No, she was asking when the smoke on the mountain would dissipate.”

Upon hearing this, Cheng Siyu asked in surprise, ”The mountain is filled with an enhanced version of knockout smoke. Where is their family hiding? Could it be... the place they’re hiding is making them suffer, which is why she called to ask?”

Gu Xiheng’s expression changed. The entire mountain was covered in the smoke he had released. Knowing that Ai Yue had escaped with her family, he hadn’t looked deeply into where they were hiding to avoid the smoke.

He had subconsciously assumed they were safe, but Cheng Siyu’s reminder made him realize that the place Ai Yue was hiding might not necessarily be safe.

Ai Yue had also asked him what would happen if the smoke was inhaled before hanging up. Could it be... Just as Gu Xiheng was increasingly feeling that Ai Yue’s situation was bad, Cheng Siyu spoke again: ”Surely not. Ai Yue is such a capable person, she wouldn’t let herself fall into danger. Otherwise, she would have asked for help long ago, don’t you think?”

Gu Xiheng thought about it again—that was true!

Ai Yue never let herself lose out. Considering she later agreed to let them station at Nameless Mountain and didn’t take the opportunity to ask for a rescue, it was enough to prove they were fine.

”Xiheng, when we’re better, let’s get married, shall we?” Cheng Siyu suddenly said.

Gu Xiheng’s head snapped up to look at her, only to see her eyes gazing at him with deep affection, as if they were drawing him in.

Gu Xiheng glanced at Cheng Siyu and quickly turned his head away, as if burned by her gaze.

Cheng Siyu slowly moved to Gu Xiheng’s bedside and sat beside him. She took his hand and leaned close to him, her voice growing even softer: ”Xiheng, I’ve waited for you for so long. Don’t make me wait much longer, alright?”

Cheng Siyu was so close to him that he could faintly smell the delicate fragrance coming from her body. This fragrance instantly made him recall the scene of them being naked together that night, and his hand seemed to feel the sensation of brushing over her entire body again.

At this moment, facing Cheng Siyu’s exquisite beauty and her affectionate gaze, his body unexpectedly had a reaction, and his mouth began to feel dry.
