Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

186: Who would want to steal her man?Just as they reached the foot of the mountain, they saw Gong Qiumu waving at them from a distance.

He shouted loudly, ”Brother, Sister Ai Yue, where did you two go to play? Why didn’t you take me with you? I thought you two had eloped!”

In the blink of an eye, Gong Qiumu had arrived before them, looking full of excitement.

Gong Qiuqiu slapped him on the back and said crossly, ”What nonsense are you talking about? Ai Yue and I went to handle serious business!”

Gong Qiumu winced from the slap and retorted with a look of grievance, ”It was just a joke. Sister Ai Yue doesn’t even mind, so why do you, a big man, care so much?”

Suddenly called out, Ai Yue’s expression blanked for a moment before she said seriously, ”Who says I don’t mind? I was originally thinking of taking you up the mountain to play with some interesting things, but looking at it now, there’s no need.”

”Ah? Don’t! I admit I said the wrong thing, okay? Sister Ai Yue, you’re the best, please don’t take it to heart. But what were you going to take me to play with?” Gong Qiumu grew anxious and immediately tried to curry favor.

Ai Yue gave a cold snort. ”Too late.” Having said that, she began walking up the mountain.

”Ah, please don’t!” With a long face, Gong Qiumu prepared to chase after her.

However, his arm was grabbed by Gong Qiuqiu from behind. ”Enough, stop this useless chatter. We’re leaving in two days, so just stay by my side and behave!”

”Is there no room for negotiation?” Gong Qiumu didn’t want to stay by his brother’s side and asked pitifully.

”That’s right! No negotiation!” Gong Qiuqiu ignored him and followed Ai Yue up the mountain.

Gong Qiumu followed behind dejectedly, like a frost-bitten eggplant.

”Uh...” Suddenly, Gong Qiuqiu clutched his heart in pain and sank to one knee on the ground.

Gong Qiumu immediately stepped forward to support him from behind. ”Brother, what’s wrong?”

Hearing the commotion, Ai Yue also hurried to Gong Qiuqiu’s side to check on him.

Gong Qiuqiu seemed to be enduring immense agony and couldn’t say a word. He only gripped Gong Qiumu’s hand tightly; Gong Qiumu winced in pain but didn’t dare pull away, letting Gong Qiuqiu hold on with a death grip.

”Sister Ai Yue, what’s happening to my brother?” Gong Qiumu asked anxiously.

It was also Ai Yue’s first time seeing such a situation, and she had no idea what was wrong with him.

Seeing that Gong Qiuqiu was in so much pain that his body showed signs of twitching, Ai Yue could no longer afford to hide her abilities and secretly cast Healing on him.

The effect was visible to the naked eye. Gong Qiuqiu slowly calmed down and slumped on the ground, his entire body drenched in sweat as if he had been fished out of water.

”Brother, what was that about? Why the sudden unbearable pain? It couldn’t be... you don’t have some incurable disease, do you?”

Gong Qiumu said with a crestfallen face.

Hearing this, Gong Qiuqiu ground his teeth in anger. Catching his breath, he said crossly, ”No! If you can’t speak properly, then shut your mouth.”

Gong Qiumu immediately patted his chest and let out a long breath. ”As long as it’s not that, as long as it’s not that!”

”What happened to you?” Ai Yue asked.

Gong Qiuqiu shifted his position, leaning his entire body weight onto Gong Qiumu, which made him feel a bit more comfortable.

Hearing Ai Yue’s question, Gong Qiuqiu’s expression became much more solemn. He said seriously, ”Ai Yue, you must believe me. Leave this mountain right now, immediately.”

Ai Yue’s heart skipped a beat. ”Is it because of that mysterious power underground?”

Gong Qiuqiu shook his head with a grim expression. ”I don’t know. I have a premonition that a disaster will occur here in the near future, but I can’t see clearly what the cause is! However, what is certain is that we must leave this place!”

Ai Yue’s expression darkened further. She hadn’t expected this day to come so quickly; her family would have to move again.

”Alright, I understand. Let’s head back first, pack up, and then leave,” Ai Yue said, attempting to help Gong Qiuqiu stand up.

Regardless of whether Gong Qiuqiu’s premonition was accurate, Ai Yue knew in her heart that they would have to leave sooner or later. Every day on the mountain, she had felt a vague, inexplicable sense of unease.

It was just that after a long time and with nothing happening, she had gradually stopped caring about that bit of unease in her heart.

This time, Gong Qiuqiu’s words set off alarm bells in her head. This mountain definitely had issues, and for the safety of her family, she had to be prepared.

Supporting himself with the help of Gong Qiumu and Ai Yue, Gong Qiuqiu stood up tremulously. Just as he was about to take a step toward the mountain, he suddenly clutched his head and wailed in agony.

”Ah... it hurts so much!” Gong Qiuqiu fell to his knees, repeatedly hitting his own head.

Gong Qiumu was terrified by his appearance and stood frozen for a moment, not knowing what to do.

”Quick, pull him back!” Ai Yue shouted.

Gong Qiumu frantically joined Ai Yue in dragging him backward. After dragging him about ten meters back, Gong Qiuqiu finally stopped screaming.

However, he had also fainted.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Ai Yue said to Gong Qiumu, ”Carry your brother and leave this place, the further the better.”

After saying that, Ai Yue wanted to run up the mountain, but she was grabbed by Gong Qiumu.

The young man looked panicked and said helplessly, ”Sister Ai Yue, are you going to tell Uncle and Auntie to leave? Don’t go, I’m scared. Help me watch my brother here, and I’ll go notify them for you. I’m fast.”

Having said that, before Ai Yue could react, he vanished with a ’whoosh’, leaving Ai Yue standing there in a daze.

She looked down at the unconscious Gong Qiuqiu on the ground, then toward the mountain where Gong Qiumu had disappeared. Feeling exasperated, she desperately wanted to go up the mountain to her parents, but she couldn’t just abandon the person lying on the ground and walk away.

She could only resentfully grab Gong Qiuqiu by the collar and move him even further away from Nameless Mountain.

Worried about Gong Qiuqiu and unable to notify her parents in person, Ai Yue pulled out her satellite phone and called them to explain the situation, telling them to keep an eye on Gong Qiumu, not let him run around, and to come down the mountain as quickly as possible.

After hanging up the call with her mother, Ai Yue hesitated for a moment before calling Gu Xiheng.

To her surprise, it was Cheng Siyu who answered.

”Ai Yue, Xiheng and I are about to get engaged. Stop pestering him!” Cheng Siyu said in a triumphant tone.

In such a critical moment, Ai Yue didn’t care about Cheng Siyu’s tone and stated her purpose directly: ”I don’t have time for this nonsense. Tell Gu Xiheng immediately that something is wrong with Nameless Mountain. Have him lead everyone out at once; time is of the essence.”

”Hahaha,” unexpectedly, Cheng Siyu laughed disdainfully on the other end, mocking her, ”Ai Yue, don’t waste your breath. Xiheng is mine, and you’ll never be able to steal him away.

Heh... you want to use such a clumsy trick to trick Xiheng into going to Nameless Mountain so he misses our engagement ceremony and makes me the laughingstock of the entire Safety Tower? Keep dreaming, I won’t let you ruin it.”

Ai Yue was so angry she felt like her lungs might burst. Who wanted to compete with her for a man? This was a life-and-death moment!
