Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 621: Chapter 12: Magic Does Not Exist

”Can I bring the Broom?” the Cube asked again, ”Without it, our mobility is limited, tracking or escaping would be inconvenient.”

Vid thought for a moment and nodded, ”Sure.”

”Wow, am I going out too?” The Broom was overjoyed and darted out.

Realizing the master was exceptionally agreeable today, the Cube raised a paw and tentatively asked:

”Can we bring Mikhail? Keeping it locked up at home is such a waste. Besides, you know, Master—we and Lock have no means to destroy the Soul Artifact.”

Vid raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

Since its inception, Vid had only let Mikhail out a few times, for a simple reason: this fiery embodiment of a bird was far too dangerous to others.

The Fiery could burn anything combustible and grew stronger as it consumed more.

This Magic wasn’t entirely uncontrollable, but it was difficult; few Wizards could completely control the Fiery.

So theoretically, if Mikhail were to lose control, a single spit could potentially burn down a city.

Under the master’s particularly piercing gaze, the Cube awkwardly lowered its paw and dryly chuckled:

”Seems unlikely... Then maybe the Cloak can... ahem, of course, the Cloak should stay home, can’t leave this place unattended.”

The Cube grabbed Lock and headed toward the window, waving its paw, ”Goodbye then, Master, we’ll return with good news!”

The Broom flew out the window first, stopping at the window, exuding a sense of excitement for going out and having fun.

”Wait.” Vid took a couple of steps closer, saying, ”If you encounter a problem you can’t handle, contact me promptly. I’ll bring Mikhail and rush over as quickly as I can.”

”Got it!”

The Cube and Lock mounted the Broom, their bodies gradually changing color to blend with the surroundings, leaving only the jubilant sound of the Broom in the air:

”Ha ha ha, Voldemort, Death Eaters, tremble, here we come!”

With a ”whoosh,” a sound of breaking through the air, Vid’s hair fluttered a bit.

The Cloak crouched at the wardrobe entrance, arms draped over the collar area, and though it had no features or expression, it seemed to perform a pitiful act.

”Let’s go.” Vid pulled the Cloak over, casually draping it on an arm, saying, ”You have other work to do.”

”I know... to tidy up the house, right...” the Cloak said coyly, ”But Master, I want to go out and have fun too... Can I take turns with the Cube?”

”Your task is much more important than cleaning.” Vid opened the door, walking downstairs while quietly saying, ”You need to watch over a person for me.”

The Cloak flicked its shimmering hem in surprise, saying, ”I’m so conspicuous, not really fit for surveillance, am I?”

”It’s not just surveillance,” Vid said, ”You also need to take care of him and protect him. You’re the smartest Cloak in the world; I trust you know what to do when the time comes.”

The Cloak stiffened briefly, then confidently said, ”Of course, I certainly won’t disappoint the Master... Where’s my target?”

As they spoke, Vid reached the stairway corner.

He heard voices in the living room, paused, and after a while, continued downstairs, the Cloak cleverly quieting down.

”Listen, I don’t know how you did it... I’m very grateful you have cured me. But Magic? It’s really absurd, dear Gray.”

The elderly white-haired man shook his head, speaking calmly, ”No need for such clumsy reasons, child. If you need any help, just say it directly; I’d be more than happy to assist.”

He laughed self-mockingly, ”After all, I have nowhere to go now... If you can provide three meals a day and a place to sleep, I can give you my previous research results or help your kid in school write a thesis.”

His voice sounded disheartened, as if he cared about nothing, lacking even the interest to live.

Vid could understand why he became like this—after all, Mr. Cornelius Dawan was once highly revered and respected, but after he fell seriously ill, everyone around him abandoned him.

If he remained in a confused state, it wouldn’t be so bad, but sometimes, he would momentarily regain clarity and vividly experience the torment of illness on his body, even his dignity felt insulted.

He had sat in a wheelchair, sitting in his own excrement, feeling as uncomfortable as if ants were biting him all over, yet unable even to scratch.

Those injuries, even now with his body healed, couldn’t be completely erased from memory.

Cornelius didn’t know how he got cured—as a Muggle, when he was discharged from St Mungo’s, the healer added a Forgetfulness Spell to make him forget the time spent in the hospital—but he didn’t want to explore it either.

He had been a scientist, but now Cornelius felt his curiosity was utterly dead.

”Hey, seeing me, do you still deny the existence of Magic?”

Coco crossed her arms, standing next to the coffee cup, angrily saying, ”I’m the clever, cute, smart, and capable Poppet Coco, a partner hand-crafted by the great Vid! Have you seen anything like me in the Muggle World?”

”Who would have thought that in just a few years, the technology for intelligent robots would advance this much?” Cornelius sighed, ”I’ve really slept too long, can’t keep up with the times anymore.”

”Robot? Coco is not a robot! And... oh, and Dobby! Have you seen a House-Elf?”

Coco shouted, ”Dobby! Dobby! Come quickly!”

The House-Elf appeared with a ”pop,” serving the guest a cup of tea, ”Please have some tea, Mr. Dawan.”

Cornelius Dawan rubbed his eyes, confusedly asking Ferdinand, ”I think I’m seeing things... Are these types of robots already common? Honestly, have I been in a coma for twenty years?”

”I think twenty years later, technology won’t have developed to the extent you imagine,” Ferdinand said, ”This is Magic, Cornelius.”

”No, no, no, Magic does not exist,” Cornelius shook his head, ”The laws of nature follow fundamental physical principles, there’s no instant teleportation, and artificial objects cannot possess independent thought; this is merely a unique trickery... I just haven’t figured out the means you’ve employed.”

”Vid’s here.” Ferdinand saw Vid coming down the stairs, smiled, ”Why don’t you talk with my son? He’s a true Wizard.”

”Wizard?”

Cornelius raised an eyebrow, showing an ”I’ll see how you concoct this” expression, turning to Vid.

Vid didn’t speak, simply shook his arm, and the Cloak instantly stood up, flying around Cornelius, in his astonished gaze, it smugly said:

”Come! Guess what kind of means I used for this!”
