Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 619: Chapter 10: The Heir of the Black Family

Sirius has always loathed the so-called pure-blood ideology of his family, detested his parents’ strong possessiveness and various crazy ideas, and despised the so-called long-standing treasures of the Black family—various evil, vicious, and inhumane dark magic.

The books in the basement, his parents had always tried to pour their contents into his brain. Normally, Regulus wasn’t even allowed to touch them, but during Sirius’s childhood, his mother Walburga treated those books as his children’s reading material; when he made mistakes growing up, he was often locked inside to ”reflect.”

The Blacks probably hoped that, over time, he would become the kind of Black he was supposed to be through constant exposure.

But Sirius’s defiance and rebellion were innate; the more his family forced him to accept those old customs and traditions, the more he found them intolerable. The more they forced him to learn, the less he wanted to even glance at them.

Eventually, at the age of sixteen, Sirius resolutely ran away, completely abandoning the Black family.

Many years later, when he was finally willing to open that book ”Advanced Black Magic Unveiled,” did he realize what he had missed.

Horcrux.

The method of making this thing, its purpose, and all kinds of signs after its creation had long been recorded in the Black family’s collection.

Regulus was different from Sirius. He was a good kid. After Sirius left home, he must have diligently studied the things in the basement under his parents’ request, right?

He learned about the Horcrux here... Later, because of Kreacher’s ordeal exploring that cave, he discovered that the pendant box Voldemort hid was a Horcrux... He resolutely chose to sacrifice himself, finally being dragged into the dark lake by the Inferi.

Sirius felt a bit dizzy, he steadied himself against the bookshelf, looking at his godson.

Harry looked very much like James, except his eyes were almost identical to Lily’s, even his gaze was similar—clear, bright, brave and sincere, like an emerald lake.

Sirius thought of the words in the book—

[A Horcrux allows the creator to achieve immortality. Even if the body is destroyed, the soul will continue to exist because of the Horcrux, for part of the soul remains in the world, undamaged. The creator can achieve resurrection through appropriate magical rituals.]

[The magic of creating a Horcrux is extremely evil and dangerous... The wizard needs to deliberately tear apart their own soul through murder and embed part of it into an object, the spell for which is...]

[Splitting the soul makes it extremely unstable, so the number of Horcruxes should not be too high... But one must be aware that if a Horcrux is destroyed, the soul fragment sealed within it will also be destroyed...]

In the corner of the book, someone had written a small supplementary note by hand—

[If a living creature is used as a Horcrux, then a special connection will exist between the Horcrux and the creator... The creator can transfer their consciousness into the Horcrux, controlling its actions, sensing its thoughts and emotions.]

[It’s fascinating, as if it were a part of me. Compared to my already aged body, this one is younger, healthier, more vibrant... Apart from it being just a snake, everything else is perfect.]

[Perhaps I should have chosen a child as the soul’s vessel in the beginning, then maybe I could achieve rebirth through them...]

[The only thing that worries me is, if the creature used as a Horcrux dies from aging or attack, will my soul fragment be destroyed along with it?]

[If the answer is ”yes,” then choosing a creature as a Horcrux is too unwise. Compared to magical items that are easy to hide and protect, most creatures are too fragile...]

Sirius’s eyes were slightly red, the familiar letters seemed to turn into a group of grinning little figures, dancing around him, forming a string of scarlet words from time to time:

[Special connection... Sensing thoughts... Achieving rebirth...]

Previously, although Sirius knew about the existence of Horcruxes after the cave expedition, his understanding of such things was superficial, just the content Dumbledore was willing to tell them.

If only he had seen this book earlier... If only he could remember earlier...

Sirius’s fingers trembled unconsciously, thinking about what he told Dumbledore earlier, wishing he could travel back two days ago and throw his confused self directly off the top floor!

”Sirius?”

Feeling the gaze atop his head growing sharper, Harry couldn’t help but lean his head back, rubbing his forehead scar, and asked: ”What’s wrong? Is there something dirty on my head?”

The few people in the room glanced at Harry, then looked at Sirius.

”Nothing.” Sirius took a deep breath, forcing a smile: ”I was just worried about you touching things... There are some dangerous dark magic items in the basement. Vid, have you found the book you need?”

”Yes, I found a few useful books, copied them all.” Vid said with a smile: ”I think I need to return early, before visiting Mr. Flamel, I must prepare the gift.”

”Alright, then let’s get out.” Sirius said, pretending to be relaxed: ”Honestly, I hate this place... I was often locked up here when I was young.”

Several people went up the stairs. As they passed by him, Lupin looked at Sirius and asked in a low voice: ”Worried about Harry’s safety?”

For a moment, Sirius thought Lupin had read his mind.

Then he realized Lupin was referring to Voldemort targeting Harry again, vaguely saying: ”Yeah... We didn’t protect James and Lily well before, I’m really afraid this time might...”

”You’re putting too much pressure on yourself, Sirius.” Lupin patted his friend’s shoulder, comforting: ”Last time we trusted the wrong person, this time there’s no way we’ll make the same mistake.”

Sirius lowered his eyes, saying softly: ”I hope so.”

Lupin didn’t think more, followed the two children, and left the basement.

Behind him, Sirius lifted his eyes, his dark gaze watching the backs of the few in front.

He wasn’t sure whether his guess was correct... Harry might not be a Horcrux made by Voldemort specifically either, he could see through Voldemort’s eyes, maybe the failed Killing Curse created some unique connection between them...

No!

Sirius couldn’t deceive himself.

If he had to choose between protecting Harry and killing Voldemort... If for the safety of the Magic World, it’s necessary to destroy all Horcruxes...

There must be another way... there must be another solution... Harry can’t be a deliberately made Horcrux, maybe the soul fragment could be transferred somehow...

Think carefully... before, hadn’t Voldemort survived as a wandering soul for a dozen years? Harry was living well, and Voldemort couldn’t harm anyone, even living a fate worse than death...

Sirius’s eyes flickered, cold and dangerous, like a hidden viper, or a predator baring its fangs.

Kreacher took one look and ducked his head in fear, but a subtle thrill rose in his heart.

He clenched his tiny fist and silently mumbled: ”Master, Mistress, look! The young master finally seems to be getting there!”
