This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

It’s finally quiet!

The whole world seemed to quiet down. Du Heng could finally focus on setting the bones without having to endure the buzzing sounds around him. With no one bothering him, his speed finally picked up.

During the first ten minutes, not a single broken bone was set, but in the next fifteen minutes, the remaining three broken bones were set in place.

”Director Li, we’re done. Time for fixation.” Du Heng finally finished the reduction comfortably.

Li Chengzu walked over, but instead of pushing the Patient out of the room as Du Heng had said, he pushed the Patient directly into the neighboring room.

Looking at the newly opened room, Du Heng couldn’t help but swallow. ”Director Li, this is...?”

Seeing Du Heng’s surprised, wide-eyed expression and slightly agape mouth, Li Chengzu felt very smug. He was sure this setup would impress Du Heng.

He casually said, ”Oh, this is our Hospital’s CT operating room. It can quickly perform real-time CT imaging Check-up, avoiding the injuries caused by multiple Patient transfers while also greatly shortening the Treatment time, improving surgical accuracy, and ensuring Patient safety.”

Speaking in a nonchalant tone, Li Chengzu glanced at Du Heng again and said, ”In traditional surgery, Patients need to go to the Radiology Department for CT Check-up and run back and forth between different floors for the operation and CT examination rooms, which is not only time-consuming but also very unsafe.”

While speaking, Li Qin was already brought to the designated area. Li Chengzu pointed to the floor and said, ”Our Hospital’s operating room adopts the intelligent CT-guided rail system. It’s equipped with a CT rail and an automated transfer operating table, which effectively solves this problem. However, since today we were performing a minor operation on short notice, there was no need for precise positioning navigation, interventional treatment, puncture, or drainage. Consequently, many functions were not activated.”

Du Heng swallowed. Why not use these functions? With precise positioning and real-time imaging just now, he wouldn’t have needed so much effort. With his tactile sense and what his eyes could see, he was confident that he could complete the reduction in twenty minutes. But Du Heng didn’t say anything. He was now filled only with envy.

”Director Li, how much did it cost to build such a composite operating room?” Du Heng’s heart burned with desire once again. Such an operating room must be incredibly convenient. Performing surgery in this kind of room provides a guarantee to the Patients, reduces their unnecessary pain, and offers Doctors a certain degree of improvement.

Li Chengzu secretly smiled. Now comes the main point, he thought, then said, ”I’m not too sure about the specifics, but it probably cost around 100 million yuan. But what does it matter? The Hospital built it for us, so we might as well use it!”

He made it all sound so breezy and casual. Du Heng, however, was truly astonished by this number—not with the initial surprise of seeing such an operating room for the first time, but with sheer shock.

One hundred million yuan. Even with his external application, this was an astronomical sum. It would be incredibly lavish to spend 100 million yuan building an operating room.

Du Heng collected himself. His eyes were still filled with envy, but they no longer burned as hotly. He realized such a thing could not be owned by Central Lake or even Jinzhou. At the same time, he once again felt how developed medical support was in other places, and what it was that made them so advanced. It wasn’t just their wealth of experienced, renowned Doctors, but also the various advanced equipment and facilities that he had never seen or heard of in the Northwest. If he had this type of operating room for his own reductions, he would have the confidence to perform a full hand comminuted fracture reduction, no matter how small the fragments were.

Beyond envy, it also made Du Heng realize how backward Jinzhou was in terms of its medical standards. The gap between the two was too large—larger than he could have ever imagined. This reaffirmed his decision: he needed to return home. His impoverished hometown needed him more; staying here would just be gilding the lily.

”Director Li, how often is this operating room used by your Orthopedics Department?” Du Heng asked, having recovered his composure to a certain extent.

That question caught Li Chengzu off guard. Could this luxurious operating room be used for the Department of Orthopedic Traumatology? Of course, it could. But was it used often? Only a handful of times.

Orthopedic surgery was like carpentry with a large saw, especially for massive bone injuries and fractures where knives, hammers, saws, and drills were all standard tools. For such rough procedures, even if they themselves wanted to use this room, the Hospital wouldn’t dare allow it. A 100-million-yuan treasure being used by these ”barbarians”? That would either be having too much money to burn or a sign that someone in charge had lost their mind.

Moreover, their ability to use the operating room today was mostly due to Li Qin’s celebrity status. Otherwise, a mere radius bone fracture would never warrant access to such a room.

Seeing Li Chengzu hesitating and not saying anything, Du Heng suddenly laughed, and the feeling of constraint he’d felt earlier dissipated. Although he practiced traditional Chinese medicine, it didn’t mean he was unfamiliar with Western surgical procedures. The operations performed in such an operating room had to be those requiring an extremely high level of precision.

Such a grand operating room looked impressive, but it didn’t seem like he could use it. If he couldn’t use it, then it was just a waste, Du Heng thought bitterly.

Li Chengzu’s surreptitious boasting was extinguished by Du Heng’s inadvertent comment. He stopped talking nonsense and started doing a Check-up for Li Qin.

At this time, Li Qin was still fixated on the words Du Heng had uttered: ”Shut up.” As a beauty, as a celebrity, when had she ever been spoken to like that by anyone, especially a young man? She felt angry, embarrassed, shy, but mostly, she was confused.

It was just as well she was confused; immersed in her own world, she finally stopped her endless chatter.

As they waited for the fixation, the delicate man and the Assistant came to Li Qin’s side. Seeing her lying quietly on her Sick bed, She might still be under the influence of the Anesthetic, they thought, and asked Li Chengzu if there would be any problems. After receiving confirmation that there would be no issues, they waited quietly by the side for Li Qin to fully awaken.

When Li Chengzu answered their questions, he smiled knowingly. Anesthetic? High from it? Those words certainly hit hard, but it wasn’t the Anesthetic. However, he had no intention of revealing this. After dealing with the delicate man, he turned to ask Du Heng, ”Doctor Du, do you have any house that can accelerate bone healing? If so, please use it for Ms. Li Qin. The flexibility of the fingers is very high; prolonged fixation like this might easily lead to redisplacement.”

Du Heng asked with some doubt, ”Director Li, isn’t your Hospital an affiliated hospital of the Capital Chinese Medicine Hospital? Don’t you have such a house?”

”Since we’re among ourselves, I won’t hide anything from Doctor Du. We do have such houses, but they are external Ointments, and the effects are mediocre. Doctor Du, your bone setting skills are outstanding, and you are an expert in internal medicine. I think you might have a better house, so that’s why I’m asking.”

Du Heng thought for a moment, recalling Zhu Heizi’s situation. ”I do have two houses, one for internal Decoction medicine and one for an external Ointment. But let me first clarify if the effects produced by my houses are as mediocre as what you mentioned. If they are, I won’t bother to bring them out and embarrass myself.”

Li Chengzu nodded. That’s a fair point. And discussing it would also allow the Patient and her family members to have some understanding. ”If it’s convenient for you, Doctor Du, please tell us.”

”I treated a Patient with a tibial comminuted fracture who was in their 40s. It was solely through manual reduction, and that was about two months ago now. After the Patient used both internal and external medicine for two days, the swelling and blood stasis in their leg subsided. When I called to ask about it the day before yesterday, the recovery was quite good, and the Patient had started doing some light physical activities.

”Oh, by the way, to make it convenient for the External application of the Ointment at that time—and I wasn’t sure if my external fixation was done correctly—I used two plaster splints, one on the extensor and one on the flexor side of the lower leg, and then wrapped them with bandages.”

Thinking about this, Du Heng felt a bit depressed. The system had clearly given him Orthopedics Expertise but hadn’t provided the correct and reasonable method for external fixation. He’d had to figure it out and learn on his own. However, he had been too busy and encountered too many things during that period, so he’d forgotten to delve deeper into external fixation techniques.

Li Chengzu’s eyes brightened when he heard this. ”The Patient started working after just over two months?”

”That’s what our Doctor told me. They took him to our Municipal First Hospital for an X-ray exam, which showed good healing. The Patient also said that he can now feed grass to the mules and sheep at his home. However, he doesn’t dare to be active for too long, nor does he dare to do heavy work.”

For internal fixation surgery involving screws and plates, two to three months at most would mean switching from two crutches to a single crutch for walking. Actually working would definitely be out of the question. Now, Du Heng was saying that without internal fixation, the Patient had started doing some physical work in just over two months. This recovery effect was much better than what they had achieved with surgery! So, if internal fixation surgery was combined with Du Heng’s house, could the effect be doubled? But the crucial premise was that what Du Heng said had to be true.

At this point, Du Heng took out his Mobile phone. He showed Li Chengzu photos of Zhu Heizi’s post-examination X-rays, the examination report, and a standing photo of Zhu Heizi.

Li Chengzu took Du Heng’s Mobile phone without pretense and started looking at the pictures.

”The effect is excellent, Doctor Du, even better than the recovery after our internal fixation,” Li Chengzu said, returning the Mobile phone to Du Heng. ”Then, I’ll have to trouble Doctor Du to write a house for Ms. Li Qin.”

As they were speaking, the Doctor who would perform the fixation arrived. Li Chengzu quickly said, ”Just make two plaster splints for the fixation; we will also be applying Ointment.”

Du Heng didn’t concern himself with the fixation happening nearby but instead thought about what to do. The internal medicine is easy; he can just write a house. But this external Ointment is too troublesome. Even if the method is written down, if the heat isn’t controlled properly during the Ointment preparation, it will be completely useless. As for staying here to help make it, that’s absolutely impossible. He doesn’t have that much time.
