This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The sudden question left Du Heng slightly dazed.

However, he quickly regained his composure. ”I’ve never really thought about it.”

”Why? Is orthopedics not good?” Li Chengzu asked with confusion.

Du Heng chuckled. ”Orthopedics is great, but I haven’t considered it for now.”

Li Chengzu glanced at the nearly loaded images and changed the subject. ”I heard from Director Chu that Doctor Du is an invited expert for exchange and learning. Which hospital are you working at now?”

”I don’t dare to call myself an expert. I work at Jinzhou Zhonghu Health Clinic, in my hometown.” Du Heng openly stated his workplace, not feeling it was something to be ashamed of.

The corner of Li Chengzu’s eye twitched. Such impressive and comprehensive medical skills... And he’s young, too. Youth itself isn’t the issue; after all, Western medicine has its talents, and traditional Chinese medicine certainly does too. But for such a talent to be working at a Health Clinic? That’s just too much.

At the same time, he felt that the chances of him pulling Du Heng over to his side had greatly increased.

”Doctor Du has been in the Capital for more than half a month. How do you feel about the Capital Medical Field?”

”It’s great. Both the hardware and software of the medical facilities here are excellent. Especially with so many excellent doctors, it is a great fortune for the people of the Capital.”

”Is Doctor Du interested in staying in the Capital?”

Du Heng shook his head with a smile.

Just a few days ago, Chu Xuwei had brought up the same topic and made several promises, but Du Heng wasn’t moved at all.

When Chu Xuwei mentioned staying in the Capital, Du Heng’s first thought was of the small Health Clinic. Its entire territory, when combined, was still smaller than the Outpatient Hall of Good Friend Hospital.

Li Chengzu thought Du Heng was considering issues such as household registration and contracts, so he took the initiative and said, ”Doctor Du, in the Department of Orthopedic Traumatology, my words still carry some weight. As long as you agree to join my department, I will help you with all the other issues, including household registration, which will be settled within five years.”

Having only met for the first time and talked for a little over twenty minutes, Li Chengzu’s attitude showed that he was a passionate person and truly valued talent.

Although Du Heng was grateful for being appreciated, he still shook his head. His heart was not here.

Sometimes, he would mock himself, thinking that he might just have a cheap destiny, unable to enjoy life in a Big City; he preferred the lifestyle in the mountain gully.

Relaxed, comfortable, and at ease.

When he saw familiar people recover their health and offer him a smile, his heart would feel incredibly sweet.

”I appreciate Director Li’s kindness, but the Health Clinic still needs me now. Let’s talk about it when there’s an opportunity in the future.”

To this answer, Li Chengzu was somewhat surprised. In this day and age, very few people could reject the opportunity to stay and develop in the Capital, especially when promised settlement of their household registration.

”What kind of work is Doctor Du responsible for at the Health Clinic?”

”Um... comprehensive work.”

Li Chengzu was astonished again. Comprehensive work? Dean? Leader? Is he aiming for a career in politics? What a pity.

However, everyone has their own aspirations, and he was not particularly familiar with Du Heng. Having said so much already might be considered prying. It would be better to wait until they got closer and had a deeper understanding of each other before discussing this issue again.

With that thought in his mind, Li Chengzu made a decision. ”Doctor Du, let’s take a look at the images on the computer first. It might take a while for the hard copies.”

Du Heng stopped talking, and they both leaned in to look at the computer screen.

The refined man also wanted to take a look, but he didn’t dare to squeeze in with them. He became fidgety, looking quite funny.

”As expected, radial wrist dislocation, first metacarpal base joint intra-articular fracture with dislocation.” After examining the images, Li Chengzu looked admiringly at Du Heng. ”It was my mistake for being careless. The patient didn’t mention any issues with their wrist and palm when they came, so I overlooked it. Doctor Du, how did you figure it out?”

Du Heng carefully examined the images, his mind racing as he tried to find a suitable method and position for treating the patient with purely manual techniques.

Hearing Li Chengzu’s question, he casually replied, ”It’s not so much that I saw it, but rather deduced it. From the fracture site of the patient’s radius bone, I could deduce the direction and position of the force applied. And if the patient’s radius bone could be fractured and displaced, then the wrist and palm, which serve as the main support structures, must have also been affected.”

”It’s still the same issue as before—the injured person’s arm is too thin, and also a bit... a bit...”

Seeing Du Heng hesitating, unable to say what the issue really was, the refined man became extremely anxious.

Unable to bear it, he asked, ”Doctor Du, a bit what?”

Du Heng took a gentle breath. ”I suspect the injured person has osteoporosis.”

”Osteoporosis?”

”Osteoporosis?”

Li Chengzu furrowed his eyebrows, while the refined man widened his eyes and blurted out, ”Doctor Du, although I don’t know much about medicine, I know that osteoporosis is a disease that affects the elderly. Our Qinqin is only 27 years old; she couldn’t be younger! How could she possibly have this disease?”

Unmoved by the refined man’s nearly roaring words, Du Heng calmly said, ”Yes, as you said, Qinqin is only 27 years old. But just from a common type of fall—landing on her backside—she suffered a comminuted fracture of the radius bone, and her wrist and palm also sustained injuries of varying degrees.”

”From another perspective, even if she struggled to turn while falling, pressing her supporting arm under her body and squishing it between her body and a car door step—don’t you think a comminuted injury is too exaggerated? Moreover, judging by the thickness of her arm, her weight is definitely not more than 60 kilograms. With such a light weight, how could a sudden fall crush her arm?”

The refined man was dumbfounded. What Du Heng said was indeed true. A young person’s bones couldn’t possibly be that brittle. Without external force causing the issue, only osteoporosis could be the explanation.

However, the refined man could not accept it. ”Qinqin is only 27 years old. How could she have osteoporosis?”

At this point, Li Chengzu’s eyebrows furrowed even more. He had made an empiricist mistake by focusing solely on the surgery without considering this possibility when he first saw the patient. Now, after hearing what Du Heng said, he felt certain that the girl had this problem. Otherwise, he couldn’t explain why her injuries were so severe.

Upon hearing the refined man’s disbelief, he said softly, ”Osteoporosis can be divided into primary and secondary categories. In addition to the common age-related cases, endocrine diseases, skin diseases, kidney disease, or malnutrition can also cause osteoporosis.”

The refined man’s mood was very bad; a fracture leading to osteoporosis was just terrible luck. ”Qinqin goes for regular check-ups, and she doesn’t have any of those diseases you mentioned.”

”Did you test her bone density?”

”Why test for that?”

”Exactly, you haven’t tested for it, so this is very possible. And I think malnutrition may be the biggest cause of her osteoporosis.”

After hearing Li Chengzu, the refined man regretfully clenched his fist. ”Qinqin has been on a diet for a long time to maintain her figure, which has resulted in poor digestion. A few years ago, during a check-up, a doctor diagnosed her with malnutrition and advised her to eat more nutritious food. But Qinqin gains weight easily and is afraid to eat more. For the past few years, she has been regularly taking nutrient solution.”

”Could this be the cause?”

Li Chengzu looked at the refined man and said, ”You can have a thorough check-up after this to figure out the exact cause. Right now, we should focus on the patient’s bone injury.”

He then turned to look at Du Heng. At that moment, he felt even more strongly that Du Heng should be on the front lines of medical work, not pursuing an administrative path.

”Doctor Du, given the patient’s condition, is it possible to perform a manual reduction?”

”It is possible on my end. The radius bone part is easy to handle. After the reduction, it can be fixed with a cast. The dislocation is also easy to deal with; there’s no difficulty there. It’s just that the metacarpal part is more challenging to handle.”

Li Chengzu asked seriously, ”Can it not be done here?”

”It can be, but it’s not easy to immobilize this area. The palm is different from the forearm. Even if it is bandaged and fixed, it is particularly prone to movement.”

”So what do you suggest?”

”If we are going to do a manual reduction, the injured person must be able to endure not moving at all. I mean completely immobile, for at least two weeks.”

Li Chengzu turned to the refined man and asked, ”Can she do that?”

Two weeks without moving the arm seemed possible, but not moving the hand... that was more of a challenge.

The refined man thought for a moment and asked Li Chengzu, ”Director Li, can surgery be done on the palm part? Is it on the back or the palm of the hand?”

Li Chengzu smiled. ”It can be done, but it’s just a small area. Moreover, since Doctor Du can manually reduce it, why opt for surgery? My suggestion is to hold on for a while; two weeks will pass quickly. If you choose surgery, you will need internal fixation, which carries a certain risk due to the metacarpal base joint intra-articular fracture.”

The refined man lowered his head, clenching his teeth, and pondered for a long time. ”Alright, let’s listen to the two experts. I won’t do anything else during these two weeks. I will accompany her, watch over her, and remind her.”

”Don’t just watch her; make sure she eats more and replenishes her nutrition. Take this opportunity to let her properly recuperate. You can’t just think about having the girl make money for you without caring about her well-being.”

”Alright, I’ll let her eat. Even if she gains a little weight, it’s better than risking her life.”

Du Heng had never met other celebrities or the people around them, but judging from the refined man’s words, he seemed to have a conscience.
