This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After the prescription was handed out, Du Heng instructed Wu Buwei, ”Boil 120g snake tongue grass and 120g prunella into a concentrated decoction. Stop at 600 milliliters. Also, tell the nurse to administer the dose in three separate times.”

Wu Buwei, looking at the prescription full of toxic herbs, was already unfazed. ”Alright, Senior Brother, I understand.”

After Wu Buwei left, the sound of chaotic footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Du Heng lifted his head to see that it was already noon.

But he seemed to have overworked his brain today, as he didn’t really feel like eating. Therefore, he didn’t move and just closed his eyes to rest in the office, thinking about the two prescriptions he had just written.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

”Dean, hurry up and eat.”

Yu Haiting walked in cheerfully with a lunch box in one hand. ”I didn’t see you in the Canteen. I saw your lunch box still in the usual spot, so I figured you were here.”

He then placed Du Heng’s lunch box in front of him.

Du Heng quickly reached out to take it. ”I’m not really hungry, that’s why I didn’t go.”

”Even if you’re not hungry, you still have to eat some.”

Yu Haiting pulled up a chair to sit next to him, stirring the noodles and dishes in his lunch box together. He then took a large mouthful.

”Dean, what are we going to do about Zhu Fanzhong?”

”I haven’t gone up to see him yet. How is he doing now?” Du Heng questioned back after taking a bite.

”Same as before, no change, but his body temperature has dropped a little, to 38.6.”

”That’s good news then. For the rest, let’s take it slowly. After we finish eating, he should be ready for his second dose.”

Yu Haiting liked to mix his noodles and dishes. Each time he took a bite, he would then stir the remaining dishes and noodles together.

Du Heng was different. He didn’t mix his dishes and noodles. However, when he ate noodles, he had to pour some gravy on them.

”Dean, an appendicitis abscess and diffuse peritonitis are serious issues due to severe contamination in the abdominal cavity. We need to perform an abdominal rinse.”

Yu Haiting gently stirred his food. ”What should we do in Zhu Fanzhong’s situation? If we don’t operate, we can’t rinse the abdomen. If an infection occurs later, it would be life-threatening.”

Du Heng’s hand, holding the spoon, paused slightly. He carefully considered this problem. ”The prescription I just gave him is for detoxification and abscess removal. After that, we’ll have to see the specific situation. If we can clean it up with Chinese herbal medicine, that would be best. If not, we’ll have to resort to surgery for a rinse.”

Yu Haiting sighed heavily. ”Why is he so stubborn? If he gets his body treated, wouldn’t it be more helpful for his daughter’s treatment?”

”It’s lack of money. What else could it be?” Du Heng ate a spoonful of noodles leisurely. ”Judging by Jinzhou’s current charges, a month’s chemotherapy plus radiotherapy costs more than 20,000 yuan. His daughter’s current condition isn’t eligible for reimbursement. If he spends an extra 3,000 yuan on himself, his daughter gets 3,000 yuan less. He definitely doesn’t want that. Most importantly, he also knows his daughter’s condition isn’t giving him time to earn money. In just one short month, the tumor has grown from the size of a soybean to a fist, and it’s systemic. He knows there’s little time left.”

”Since he knows time is short, why did he come back from the Capital? The medical facilities in the Capital are leagues ahead of ours in Jinzhou, wouldn’t you say?”

Du Heng gave a self-deprecating smile. ”Leagues ahead might be an exaggeration, but they’re at least significantly better.”

He slowly ate a mouthful of noodles, chewed, and swallowed before continuing, ”Medical expenses can be reimbursed there, but I estimate that accommodation and living expenses near the Hospital are very high. Moreover, considering Zhu Minyan’s condition, one person accompanying her wouldn’t be enough, and two people would double the expenses. Given Zhu Minyan’s current physical state, she can’t withstand frequent travel. If they want treatment in the Capital, they’d need to find accommodation as close to the Hospital as possible, which isn’t realistic. Plus, Zhu Minyan needs to eat well and maintain her nutrition. Otherwise, I reckon she wouldn’t survive two rounds of chemotherapy.”

Du Heng slowly pushed his lunch box forward. He really didn’t have an appetite today. He got up, took a disposable paper cup, helped Yu Haiting to a cup of water, and poured one for himself as well.

”When I visited their home today, I saw they have two dairy goats. Zhu Minyan also had a faint goaty smell on her, so they must be using goat milk to help her build up strength. But they hadn’t expected that coming from the Capital to Jinzhou would make them ineligible for the cross-regional medical treatment reimbursement system.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the statistics panel Du Heng had been monitoring changed: 864/1000.

The count of effective disease records increased by one. Zhu Minyan must have taken the medicine Wu Buwei prepared.

The tension in his heart eased once more.

Yu Haiting didn’t notice the change in Du Heng’s expression; he was still leisurely stirring his noodles. ”A hero can be stumped by a lack of money, let alone sums in the tens of thousands. Even city dwellers with stable jobs can’t bear such costs, let alone a farmer from a village. It’s truly a matter of life and death.”

Saying this, he looked up at Du Heng. ”Dean, perhaps we could donate some money to them? Everyone’s salaries increased quite a bit last month. Donating one or two hundred yuan each shouldn’t be a problem.”

In July, Wu Buwei’s salary was the highest, exceeding ten thousand yuan. Du Heng worked less, having slacked off quite a bit, but his earnings were still close to ten thousand yuan. Yu Haiting earned a bit less, only seven thousand, but that was double his basic salary of 3,500 yuan. Starting this month, he was no longer as tight-fisted as before; his finances had eased somewhat.

After Yu Haiting finished speaking, Du Heng shook his head lightly. ”No need. I’m confident I can cure Zhu Minyan.”

Hearing Du Heng’s confident words, Yu Haiting also began to smile. ”Dean...”

”Senior Brother, hurry and take a look! Zhu Minyan’s condition isn’t good.”

Wu Buwei, rushing in, cut Yu Haiting off. His words stunned both men in the office for a moment.

But it was only for a moment. They both rose simultaneously and ran towards the back courtyard.

Upon reaching the Hospital room, Zhu Minyan’s mother stood dazed by the door. By the sick bed, Wang Lili and others were anxiously trying to connect Zhu Minyan to the monitoring equipment, but they weren’t having much success.

Du Heng glanced at Zhu Minyan, who was writhing on the sick bed and clutching her stomach, then quickly asked Wu Buwei beside him, ”What happened?”

Wu Buwei panted. ”Just a minute after she took the medicine, she suddenly said her stomach was burning, like it was on fire. She also said her stomach and intestines felt like they were churning. It didn’t look like she was faking, so I hurried to call you.”

Du Heng was filled with doubt, but he had no time to think. He rushed to Zhu Minyan’s side. ”Zhu Minyan, tell me what you’re feeling right now. Where are you uncomfortable?”

”I want to vomit,” Zhu Minyan mumbled, still clutching her stomach, her answer not quite addressing the question.

Du Heng urgently said, ”Lean forward, you can vomit on the floor.”

”I can’t vomit.” Zhu Minyan rolled around on the bed. ”AHHH~~~”

”Are you feeling anything else?”

”AHHH~~~ I want to vomit! I want to go to the toilet! AHHH~~~”

Du Heng’s brow furrowed tightly. He felt the girl’s reaction was a bit extreme, a bit... agitated.

He was just about to tell her to get up and go to the toilet when, suddenly, she lay flat?!!!

Du Heng quickly reached out, turned her head, and saw that she had actually fainted.

Du Heng was completely baffled now. The system had clearly registered it as an effective treatment, meaning his medicine was working and was correct. So what was this? The problem was, the numbers on the system hadn’t changed; they hadn’t decreased. This system has a bug! It’s got me stuck.

With her unconscious, the equipment was finally connected. The various readings on it gradually stabilized, so Du Heng wasn’t in a rush to wake her.

However, at this moment, all eyes were on him. It was the first time any of them had seen such a reaction. Even Li Qiuhua, who had been on the brink of death, hadn’t reacted this way to the medicine.

The medical staff present looked at Du Heng, waiting for his next decision.

Zhu Minyan’s mother’s gaze, however, was different. It was filled with worry, fear, helplessness, confusion, and even a touch of terror.

Du Heng took a deep breath. He looked at no one else, his gaze fixed intently on Zhu Minyan on the bed. He had to find the source of the problem.

Fortunately, after she fainted, her body’s reactions stabilized, so there was no need for excessive panic.

And so, everyone watched Du Heng, and Du Heng watched Zhu Minyan.

One minute, two minutes...

Suddenly, Du Heng seemed to notice something. Looking at the beads of sweat on Zhu Minyan, he slowly bent down and gently pulled open her collar a tiny bit.

Then, he removed his mask, brought his nose close, and sniffed lightly.

It was a rather undignified action, but no one dared call him a ”pervert” at that moment.

Du Heng released her collar, straightened up, and put his mask back on.

The Book of History records, ”If a medicine does not cause a healing crisis (Mianxuan), the illness will not be cured.” Simply put, if a healing crisis occurs after taking medicine, it indicates a profound effect. A healing crisis, also known as a ”medicine-fighting phenomenon,” is the body’s adjustment process after a seriously ill person takes potent medicine.

Just now, Du Heng wasn’t actually being a ”pervert”; he simply wanted to smell the sweat being expelled from Zhu Minyan’s body.

Normally, human sweat is odorless or has only a very faint, intrinsic smell.

But just now, from the sweat on Zhu Minyan, he had detected a faint, foul odor.

It wasn’t as exaggerated as in Wuxia or Xianxia novels, but there was indeed an almost imperceptible foul smell.

Seeing Zhu Minyan sweating more and more, Du Heng turned and instructed, ”Get a sanitary pad and place it under her. Also, bring a basin over here.”

Wang Lili asked, somewhat puzzled, ”What is this for?”

Du Heng glanced at Zhu Minyan’s throat, which was bobbing up and down. ”She’s going to vomit soon, and probably have a bowel movement too. But it’s fine; it’s a normal reaction to the medicine. Once she has vomited and purged everything, she’ll be better.”

At this moment, Du Heng appeared relaxed.

As Wang Lili turned to get the items, Yu Haiting frowned and leaned closer. ”Dean, what’s happening?”
