The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Seeing Madam Song feigning innocence, Madam Gu was filled with anger and whispered, ”What else could it be? Isn’t it about the marriages of your two nephews? Younger sister, you and your husband should have connected some strings for your nephews, so why let outsiders benefit? Zi Ran and Zi Qing are your own nephews, sons of the Marquis Mansion, how could they not be suitable for Earl Anle Mansion’s daughters? Do you think they are inferior to that little scoundrel from the Duke Dingguo Mansion?”

Her voice was low, but her excitement still drew some looks.

The face of the Old Madam Gu changed several times, her voice cold and stern, ”Ms. Luo, mind your manners.”

Madam Gu wanted to argue a few more words but, seeing the warning look from her mother-in-law, reluctantly fell silent.

Madam Song understood the implication of these words, her expression slightly unpleasant, saying, ”I don’t quite get what sister-in-law means by this, but hearing you say it like that, is the Duke Dingguo Mansion arranging a marriage with the Earl Anle Mansion? Whether you believe it or not, I have no knowledge of it. And even if I did, how is it any of my business?”

Madam Gu said, ”Xiangyi, don’t say anymore. Wait until the palace banquet is over, then come back to the Marquis Mansion with me.”

Madam Song also knew this was not the place to talk and agreed. After exchanging a few words, they went together to Song Ci’s side.

They were all relatives by marriage; seeing each other at such occasions, it was natural to greet one another.

After formal greetings and a few polite exchanges, they each took their seats.

Song Ci observed the expression of his eldest daughter-in-law and asked, ”What happened?”

”Nothing much, just that mother wants me to return to the Marquis Mansion after the palace banquet for a chat,” Madam Song said reluctantly.

Song Ci hmmed.

Madam Song couldn’t help asking quietly, ”I just overheard mother and the others talking about a possible marriage between the Duke Dingguo Mansion and the Earl Anle Mansion?”

Song Ci glanced at her and said, ”Perhaps, the two families seem quite warm and friendly.”

Madam Song’s expression turned serious as she contemplated the implications of this.

Every family alliance is for benefit, but previously Lady Guan didn’t seem so cordial with the Earl Anle Mansion, since after all, it’s the family of the Empress. Their family controls military power, so why the sudden reversal?

The entire world is bustling for profit; marriage alliances are no exception. The only reason for Lady Guan to forge a marriage alliance with the Earl Anle Mansion is to gain something.

What can Earl Anle Mansion offer?

Empress Gongsun?

Madam Song thought about the unestablished Crown Prince. Although there are several adult princes, the most popular among them are Prince Xiao, Prince Zhou, and Prince Yan, but the legitimate Empress also has a son, the only legitimate one. Is there no possibility?

If the legitimate imperial son is established, it would be more rightful than anyone else.

Could the Duke Dingguo Mansion have sided with the Empress, betting on the legitimate imperial son?

Madam Song, realizing the crucial point, couldn’t help feeling her heart pounding.

To get affiliated with the Empress’s family by marriage would ensure wealth and honors for at least twenty years, no wonder her sister-in-law is anxious.

Song Ci saw Madam Song’s uncertain expression, turned his gaze, and glanced at Madam Gu’s resentful eyes not far away, shaking his head involuntarily.

Some people seem good at first, but the older they get, the more their temperament changes.

Song Ci then noticed the empty seats of the Prince Min Mansion this year and sighed.

Just now, speaking with the Princess, he heard that the Princess Consort of Prince Min seems to have joyful news, which is quite dramatic.

”The Empress Dowager arrives, the Emperor arrives, the Empress arrives.”

The inner supervisor’s announcement pulled Song Ci’s thoughts back to reality, and he couldn’t help but sit up straight.
