The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Princess Consort Ji looked disappointedly at the back of Prince Min as he walked away without a glance, and then turned around with a change in demeanor.

”Ze’er is still angry, and being ill, his temper is inevitably a bit off. You, as his wife, shouldn’t argue with him or take to heart his nonsense about wanting to leave,” Princess Consort Ji stared at her belly and said, ”This child, whether you want to keep it or not, you have to. Take good care of your pregnancy, and don’t worry about anything else. From today, I’ll assign two elder maids to assist you with your daily needs.”

Upon hearing this, the Princess Consort of Min County was aroused and said, ”Lady, isn’t your command too demanding? This is my body. Unless you tie me to the bed, even a tiger naps, and I’ll surely find a chance to ruin this belly of mine!”

She pretended to hit herself.

Princess Consort Ji turned pale and hurriedly grabbed her hand, exclaiming sharply, ”What do you want to do?”

”I can’t take provocation, you know that!” The Princess Consort of Min County also had a pent-up anger in her heart, and she looked at her coldly, ”You may succeed in your schemes once, but not every time. This child is in my belly, and only I can decide its fate. If I want it to live, it will; if I want it to leave, so be it!”

Princess Consort Ji, infuriated, pointed at her with trembling hands, ”You, you heartless woman! Is this how a mother behaves? Who could be as cruel as you?”

The Princess Consort of Min County sneered, ”I never wanted to be a mother.”

Because with her status, it was but a luxury and a struggle, so she never desired it. Having suffered all her life, why make the next generation suffer too?

Princess Consort Ji met her gaze for a while, then gave in, softly pleading, ”Ancestor, I’ll call you anything if it works, isn’t this your child too? The bond between mother and child, can’t you feel that he’s connected to you by blood?”

The Princess Consort of Min County touched her belly but said nothing.

Seeing a glimmer of hope, Princess Consort Ji continued, ”I’ll say it again, you conceived him on the first attempt, isn’t this the mercy of the Fertility Goddess? Many people try for years and nothing happens, but you two, just once...”

”Please stop!”

”Alright, I won’t say any more, but think carefully, what I said isn’t untrue,” Princess Consort Ji concluded cheerfully.

The Princess Consort of Min County sighed deeply and said, ”All Lady wants is a little grandson, but don’t you think of the mother’s status and his father’s. Once he’s born, how should his life unfold? Lady, you’ve never endured a life under constant watch from childhood to adulthood; I have, and it’s unbearably bitter.”

Princess Consort Ji was startled and said, ”He does have the surname Chu.”

”And because he bears the surname Chu, while his mother is named Xia, it makes it even more taboo,” replied the Princess Consort of Min County. ”If it’s a girl, it might be better, but if it’s a boy...”

Princess Consort Ji’s expression changed several times; she pursed her lips and, after a long pause, said quietly, ”Every grievance has a resolution, and he will outlive us by generations. As time goes on, what does it matter where he comes from?”

The Princess Consort of Min County was taken aback, and after a while said, ”You should go back, I’m tired.”

”Rest well.” Princess Consort Ji didn’t dare to oppose her, and left promptly.

Wan Chun entered and, seeing the Princess Consort of Min County’s weary face, couldn’t help but express concern, ”Mistress?”

”Wan Chun, do you find my life so dramatic? My whole life has been full of misfortune, is that still not enough suffering? Why must this happen too?” The Princess Consort of Min County seemed both amused and exasperated as she held her belly, ”What is all this?”

Wan Chun couldn’t resist wrapping her arms around her shoulders, speaking with a choked voice, ”Maybe heaven saw your suffering and sent the little master to keep you company. Mistress, since he’s here, why not accept it with an open heart?”
