The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

With Song Lingzhao’s new position as a squad leader, everyone in the Song Family, from the elders to the youngsters, was delighted. Song Zhicheng, his father, brought a jar of aged fine wine into the study of his eldest son.

”Bring out your two delicate porcelain cups with the qilin playing with pearls design. Today is a great day; let’s drink to our fill with this jar.” Song Zhicheng grinned, patting the wine jar tucked under his arm.

Song Zhiyuan found it amusing and had someone bring the wine cups. He also prepared a small heater to warm the wine and some appetizers to go with it. The two brothers sat by the table.

”Zhao’er sent a letter, and you’re this happy, even bringing out the good wine. I thought you’d save it for Yuanyuan’s wedding,” Song Zhiyuan teased.

Song Zhicheng chuckled heartily, ”When Yuanyuan was born, my wife and I buried a hundred jars of premium nu’er hong. When she gets married, you, as the uncle, will have plenty to drink. Today, we drink the strongest wine to celebrate my son becoming a Heroic General who protects our country.”

Song Zhiyuan’s eyes twinkled with joy as he watched his brother unseal the clay seal, pour it into a long-spouted wine pot, and fill up the wine cups.

The rich and mellow aroma of the wine quickly filled the entire study, intoxicatingly pleasant.

The strongest wine, the deepest emotions.

Song Zhicheng raised his wine cup, looked at Song Zhiyuan, and said with a smile, ”Brother, I’m happy today, I’ll drink first as a sign of respect.”

He didn’t wait for Song Zhiyuan to respond and downed a cup, his face soon flushing crimson.

Song Zhiyuan said helplessly, ”However happy you may be, you shouldn’t drink like this, not in one go. Take it slow.”

”No worries. We’re men, are we afraid of getting drunk? If we do get drunk, I’ll just cuddle with my wife and sleep soundly; it’ll be worth it.” Song Zhicheng filled another cup, drank it, licked the wine from the edge of his lips, and said, ”Brother, my son’s not brought shame to the Song Family, has he? He’s not diminished the name of the Song family men, has he? Haha, at just fifteen, and already a little squad leader, this boy is stronger than me, much stronger.”

Song Zhiyuan personally poured him another cup, saying, ”The kid is indeed exceptional. He’s shown great promise. Second brother, you have fathered a good son.”

Song Zhicheng clinked his cup with his brother and took another gulp, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. He picked two peanuts and popped them into his mouth, chewing as he spoke, ”Having a son like this makes me truly happy. Brother, you don’t know, since the boy left, I haven’t stopped worrying. I feared he’d achieve nothing and disgrace the family, and also feared he’d end up dead, wrapped in a horsehide. I dare not show this in front of my wife, fearing she’d cry and implore me to bring the boy back home.”

As he spoke, his voice grew somber, ”As parents, although we hope for our son to have a bright future, what use is the greatest success if he loses his life? As parents, we hope he stays safe, even if he’s just average. But this child, he has his own plans, and he refused. He went and joined the army secretly. What can I do?”

”A child, once grown, is no longer ours. As parents, can we control him for his whole life? No, we can only let him follow his path.” Song Zhicheng drank another cup of wine, his voice slightly choked, ”Brother, how did this boy become so capable? Of all things, why did he have to enlist? And not only that, he succeeded. Now he’s made a name for himself, he won’t easily leave the battlefield for the rest of his life.”

Once a person tastes the sweetness of success, they will only keep climbing higher and higher, fearless even if they fall and break, living up to having visited this world.
