The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Song Lingzhao has sent a letter.

The letter is not thick. He first asks about the family’s well-being, then talks about his unfilial actions of leaving home privately and apologizes to Madam several times. When he returns, she can hit and scold him as she pleases, and he absolutely won’t hide; the one who hides is a coward.

Besides some chattering about his life in the military camp, he reports his good news: he earned military achievements in a battle and is now a minor squad leader. Although it’s a low-ranking officer position, it is still a government post, and he is very confident about his future.

After the letter, he once again inquires about the family’s well-being and provides no additional information. He omits any mention of negativity or injuries, which is typically a soldier’s habit to report good news but not bad.

Madam read the letter back and forth ten times, almost scrutinizing it into a hole, but still found no more words, leaving herself teary-eyed, both scolding and wiping her tears.

”This rotten boy! Can’t he write two more words? It’s rare to send a letter home, and he uses just one sheet to dismiss people, not willing to write more. When he returns, when he returns, I, I... boohoo.” Madam hugged the letter paper and cried.

Song Lingjie sighed, he just knew.

Walking to Madam’s side, he gently comforted her, ”Mom, please don’t cry. Grandmother should see you laughing. Brother’s achievements are a happy event, but why are you crying?”

Madam glared at him, ”Shut up, close your eyes.”

Song Lingjie immediately closed his mouth and eyes.

”Rascal, Song Lingzhao, you rascal! I’ll beat you up, make you uncomfortable.” She clenched her fist and thumped on her younger son, scolding while hitting.

Song Ci: ”...”

Good heavens, turns out twins have this effect.

Apparently, treating Song Lingjie as Song Lingzhao and giving a beating first is best, hopeful that the twin’s shared feelings will ensure that Song Lingzhao, far in the Northwest, naturally feels his mother’s ’love’.

Ah, the wonderful use of twins, truly applicable here.

Far in the Northwest, Song Lingzhao touched his backside, wondering what the fiery sensation was about.

Madam finished her beating, then embraced Song Lingjie, hiccuping with sobs.

This act left everyone astonished yet amused.

Perhaps the room was too quiet, so Madam slightly released her son, and somewhat embarrassedly saluted Song Ci, awkwardly saying, ”Daughter-in-law lost composure, making mother laugh.”

Song Ci looked at her with a half-smile, then turned to Song Lingjie, saying meaningfully, ”Your brother ran away; it’s hard for you.”

Taking the beating isn’t easy, is it?

Madam’s face burned, turning red.

Song Lingjie laughed, ”No problem, grandson has tough skin, can take a beating. If grandmother misses my second brother, I can also play his part.”

Song Ci playfully smiled, ”Looking at your face is like seeing him; why play the part?” Then pointing at Madam, ”You, take it easy, or this kid may resent you.”

”I dare him!”

Song Lingjie immediately bowed, ”Son doesn’t dare!” Nor would he resent, for every beating now, he remembers and shall return it to that fellow someday.

Madam laughed, ”Second sister-in-law is indeed happy; Zhao’er has made achievements. Although it’s just a squad leader, it’s still a good start. Congratulations to sister-in-law; our Zhao’er has promise.”

Madam felt joy inside but modestly said, ”The little brat only earned this small officer rank by bravely fighting, it’s not worth mentioning. When he returns successfully one day, he’ll kowtow to you.”

Although she said this, the pride in her eyes cannot be concealed, but simultaneously, deep down, there is some worry. Military merits aren’t easy to earn; it surely involves fighting. Whether that brat is injured, and how severely, remains unknown.
