The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Buhui and Lin Qing quickly settled on a regimen for Song Ci’s recovery. Given the old madam’s frail health, everything would have to focus on gentle nourishment, and the prescription had to be adjusted according to her pulse changes.

Lin Qing repeatedly asked, ”Master, do you honestly think the old madam’s five organs haven’t been harmed?”

”Does young Lin Qing believe it?” Buhui countered.

Lin Qing’s face turned slightly pale.

”In fact, even without me saying so, you should know that the health of the Song Family’s matron is mainly due to damages from her early years, especially as she had a miscarriage and didn’t recuperate properly.”

Lin Qing shuddered; she knew this, but had never mentioned it. Song Ci himself never brought it up, as if it was a matter of no concern.

”To say the matron’s health is broken wouldn’t be an exaggeration; in fact, she already...” Buhui started, but then hesitated.

Lin Qing looked at him in confusion.

Buhui curled his lips, waved his hand, and said, ”It’s nothing. For someone as weak as she is, it’s impossible for the five organs to be completely unharmed. Fortunately, it’s not too severe, as she said, to be able to live one more day is a blessing.”

Lin Qing was silent for a while and then said, ”I know this too; she’s already beginning to forget things. Master, you say her life may not last long. In your view, how many years does she have left?”

”Not more than ten years, as quickly as three years, as slowly as five years, it depends on fate.”

Lin Qing stumbled, her lips turned a cold white.

Buhui observed her reaction and raised an eyebrow, saying, ”I thought young Lin Qing, having been a doctor for so many years, would take life and death lightly. But it seems you truly care for this old madam.”

Lin Qing turned her head, wiped her eyes, and looked at the snow-covered courtyard, saying, ”The matron and I are like friends who transcend generations, both mentor and friend. In my heart, I hope she lives to a good old age, enjoying her later years, rather than being tormented by illness.”

Buhui replied, ”You also know that no one can stop aging. The Song Family has only been prosperous for over twenty years. During past wars, how difficult it was, you probably don’t know. People even resorted to cannibalism at times. That she could lead the Song Family through and reach today, she spent all her effort, sustaining them with sheer determination.”

”So, shouldn’t such a person deserve a peaceful remaining years?” Lin Qing seemed puzzled, believing good people should have long lives.

Buhui didn’t respond to this, awkwardly changing the subject: ”I heard you’ve been with the Song Family for almost three years; are you planning to stay here indefinitely? Didn’t you once wish to relieve the world’s suffering?”

”Although I’ve been taking care of the matron, I still go to the Charitable Hall for free consultations two days a month. Over the past two years, I’ve also accumulated quite a bit of experience and medical records. The Song Mansion gives me freedom.” Actually, it was Song Ci who gave her freedom. If it weren’t for Song Ci’s support, would she have had such an opportunity?

Lin Qing smiled blissfully, ”So I still maintain my wish to relieve the world’s suffering, much happier than before. I plan, once the matron is no longer around, to depart and become a military doctor.”

”Not going back to the Lu Family?”

Lin Qing paused.

”That’s right, there’s no point going back there; it’s just a source of vexation. After all, the Lu Family didn’t treat you well either.” Buhui sneered slightly.

Lin Qing quickly said, ”Master, that’s all in the past now.”

Buhui nodded, smiling as he reached out as if to brush a snowflake from her hair, but felt it was inappropriate and withdrew his hand, gazing at the snow-covered courtyard.

Lin Qing clearly saw this, raised the corners of her lips, and said no more, watching the snow falling from the sky, her heart uncharacteristically calm.
