Ascension from Dual Professions

Chapter 121: Chapter 120: Big Mimi and Rosalind’s Fateful Connection, a Promise

”Yes, Mr. Jon, I have that feeling too.”

Rosalind hesitated for a moment when faced with Big Mimi’s pleading gaze, but she couldn’t resist reaching out to pat its wet nose reassuringly.

”I originally just wanted to see your Magic Pet, but it gives me a sense of kinship. It doesn’t resist my touch, either.”

”Maybe we really do get along...”

”Is that so?”

Jon was noncommittal. He first stroked Big Mimi’s whiskers, then his gaze fell upon the system panel.

”Perhaps... there’s another factor at play here...”

Big Mimi’s stats were exceptionally good. Its Power, Agility, and Constitution were evenly distributed, and its Life Value and Magic Power Value were at levels completely unattainable by humans. Its talents and Skills were also powerful and practical, truly worthy of the Rare Level evaluation given by the system.

From Jon’s experience, while an ordinary Manticore was also evaluated as Rare Level, it definitely wouldn’t reach Big Mimi’s level.

This was because there were disparities even among the ”Rare,” and the difference lay in the ”Power of Frost” talent.

Ordinary Manticores reached Official Level strength upon adulthood, placing them in the upper-middle tier among Demon Beasts. However, they were not Demon Beasts that possessed elemental power, relying mostly on physical combat.

Starting from this point, and considering the inexplicable sense of kinship between Rosalind and Big Mimi, the origin of its frost power became self-evident.

[Broken Silver Wings·Eliot], a level 95 Sub-dragon approaching the threshold of Ascension, was also the prime suspect behind Rosalind’s family tragedy and the cause of the change in her bloodline.

And according to the research of players, this guy was the true form of the [Ice Dragon God Candela] worshipped by the [Eternal Frost Sect]. For many years, it had been stirring up trouble in the region around the Shery Mountains by manipulating puppets from behind the scenes, vainly attempting to use faith to cross the threshold to the Ascension Level and even ascend to godhood!

A Sub-dragon approaching the Ascension Level certainly had the ability to pass on a portion of its elemental power to its descendants. Coupled with the indiscriminate reproductive nature of the Dragon Species, it wasn’t impossible for it to have created a Manticore bloodline that possessed frost power.

By that logic, Big Mimi’s and Rosalind’s bloodline powers both pointed to the same source. How could they not feel a sense of kinship?

But Big Mimi couldn’t be a direct descendant of this well-known Sub-dragon. It was most likely from a collateral branch, diluted over two or even three generations. Otherwise, its so-called ”Power of Frost” talent would probably have to be upgraded to something like [Dragon Vein Power · Ice].

The final summary was: strong, but not *that* strong!

Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been reduced to operating on the outskirts of the Shery Mountains, only to have its rare opportunity with the ”Blood of Coagulation” snatched away by the Wolf King. It was then forced to pursue it into an area closer to human activity, where it finally met Jon, got beaten senseless, and was then tamed.

Hmm, now that he thought about it, the creature was pretty unlucky.

This brought a rare trace of pity to Jon’s eyes as he looked at Big Mimi.

”Alright, stop playing pitiful. Come on out with me.”

”ROAR~!”

Hearing the words ”come on out,” Big Mimi’s eyes widened. It raised its head and let out an excited roar, frightening the nearby staff members into scurrying back.

And then it got smacked again.

”Quiet down! Can’t you see you’re scaring people?”

”Wroo...”

Watching the interaction between Jon and Big Mimi, a hint of a smile appeared in Rosalind’s eyes.

”Mr. Jon, are you going to check out those places we spoke of earlier?”

”I’m very familiar with all of Birch Town. Perhaps I could serve as your guide?”

However, Jon shook his head, rejecting Rosalind’s offer.

”No, this time you’ll stay here.”

”Taking it out is a statement in itself. As long as those rats hiding in the shadows are still spying on the trading post and still have designs on Reya, my actions will inevitably draw their attention. They might even be unable to resist jumping out.”

He patted Big Mimi’s thick shoulder blades, his voice growing low.

”This is a probe, and it comes with a certain amount of danger. I can’t let you come along and face that risk.”

Rosalind listened quietly.

As a manager, she could completely understand Jon’s reasoning.

However, when she heard Jon’s words, ”I can’t let you come along and face that risk,” the fingers tucked in her sleeves couldn’t help but tighten, and her bright silver eyes lowered.

”I understand... Mr. Jon. I will stay at the trading post and take care of things here.”

But Jon was incredibly perceptive.

He clearly caught Rosalind’s subtle movements and the disappointment in her tone.

He almost immediately understood the source of her disappointment—it was regret over her status as a ”non-Professional,” a feeling of powerlessness from her inability to contribute in battle.

’Sigh... What an earnest girl...’

Jon sighed to himself.

But she was his own follower, after all. Could he really just stand by and watch her feel dejected?

So he took a step closer to Rosalind and lowered his voice conspiratorially.

”Rosalind, do you remember when I said I had some ’good news’ to tell you?”

”Right now, I can reveal a little hint.”

”!”

Rosalind shot her head up to look at Jon.

How could she not remember?

’Could it be...’

Jon paused intentionally, and when he saw a spark of hope ignite in his follower’s silver eyes, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.

”I have a way... a way for you to gain the power of a Professional, too.”

These light words struck Rosalind’s mind like a clap of thunder!

Her silver eyes flew wide open, and for a moment, she even forgot to breathe.

”Mr. Jon? Are you saying... I can also...”

Her voice carried a tremor she herself hadn’t even noticed.

However, Jon gave her a slight shake of his head, stopping her from saying more.

”It requires some preparation, but it’s not unattainable.”

”When I get back, I’ll tell you more. For now, take care of Reya, and take care of yourself.”

This promise was like a ray of light, instantly dispelling all the gloom and disappointment in Rosalind’s heart.

She believed her master would not deceive her.

The silver-haired lady took a deep breath, forcefully suppressed her turbulent emotions, straightened her back again, and gave a slight bow.

”Yes, I understand. Please, be careful.”

Her voice had returned to its usual calmness, but the dancing light deep in her eyes betrayed her true inner thoughts.

Jon nodded and said no more.

He turned, vaulted onto Big Mimi’s broad back, patted its neck, and gave a light shout.

”Let’s go!”

The snow-white Manticore sensed its master’s will and immediately let out a low, excited roar. Its massive body rose, and it charged out of the trading post’s rear courtyard, enveloped in a flurry of wind and snow.
