Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1073: Chapter 596: Three-Pronged Assault

The shield tied in front of the Pigman Knight still had traces of gunfire and hacking, clearly showing someone had tried to stop it, but undoubtedly failed to halt its advance.

The Pigman Knight charged forward with an irresistible stance, and with the exaggerated strength backing its lance, it easily shattered the remaining brick wall of Point 2.

With a wave of its hand, the modified iron-armored arm crashed into the wooden fence, effortlessly destroying it. This series of actions demonstrated the Pigman’s brute and formidable power to everyone watching.

But what awaited it was not a human army, but a row of cannons.

”Hold your fire until they’re closer!”

”Ready—Ignite!”

”Bang!”

The bomb easily tore apart the shield tied in front of the Pigman Knight, directly piercing its body. The exaggerated power rumbled within the Pig’s body, causing its flesh to violently shake in a short span.

Though nothing was visible from the outside, its internals were nearly churned into pulp, and filthy substances mixed with blood and fragmented flesh were ejected by the bomb from the rear, engulfing all Pigmen in its explosive radius.

With a scream, the Pigman Knight collapsed onto the ground, unable to stand on its limbs, causing even the ground to feel a slight tremor.

But the human-like upper part still retained some vitality, preventing it from dying immediately, which was the real agony.

This meant it would have to endure immense pain, feel its life force being drained, and slowly step into the terror of death.

Just a moment ago, it was like a war god, breaking through walls and charging out, but it took only one shot for it to fall...

How suddenly the situation has reversed!

The Pigmen following the Pigman Knight didn’t stop, yet the cannons had no intention of stopping either.

”Boom, boom, boom!”

In the continuous roars, regardless of whether the armor was modified or the body was strong, they ultimately just ended as a burst of blood flowers.

The sharp and intense pig screeches and cannon blasts seemed to create a chaotic melody, yet unfortunately, there were no listeners.

The mighty strength the Pigmen prided themselves on was turned into scattered meat by the cannon’s roaring.

How could flesh possibly contend with the war machines?

Pigmen lacked the innocence to charge against gunfire like Heretics do.

In reality, just one round of bombardment was enough to make them lose their courage with its deafening sound and exaggerated lethality.

Anxiety akin to wilting engulfed their souls!

One moment they were rushing out of the passage, and the next, they were retreating back in panic.

Why fire when they’re closer? It’s all about luring out more and making their retreat path even more treacherous.

But how many can truly make it back?

The cannons would answer that.

If the first round was just a test shot, the second was precision targeting.

The bombs plowed into the densely packed Pigmen formation, resulting in flying blood and flesh.

No blade, no axe could yield such effects!

And that wasn’t all; when these Pigmen barely managed to escape the bombardment, they hadn’t anticipated the humans had already set up more sinister traps.

The planted bombs in the Pigmen’s inevitable path exploded, sending them flying into the air.

The artillerymen weren’t satisfied yet, and the Honor Guard and heroes were initially poised to defend against the Pigmen’s assault on the artillery positions.

Seeing the Pigmen flee in disgrace, everyone felt no fear for the Pigmen anymore, rather some disdain instead.

They couldn’t even endure one round of bombardment, yet dare to call themselves monsters?

The battlefield soon settled down, leaving behind an indescribable scene, with none of the corpses intact, blood and grime flowing, flesh splattering...

Alhazred held the Blood Chalice, extracting the Spiritual Essence from the life force, coagulating it into murky blood beads.

Of course, he could also convert it into Unfettered Strength through a ritual, as the Lord instructed him not to leave any Spiritual Essence behind.

Due to his presence these days, Lance felt at ease letting them leave to conquer the Beast Lair.

If the Spiritual Essence was extracted, then death meant nothing to the ancestors.

Even if some remnants were left behind, it couldn’t change much, as someone soon began to spread a kind of powder on the ground, quickly shriveling the flesh, leaving nothing behind.

Meanwhile, several Commanders began to adjust their combat plans based on the current situation.

”Those Pigmen are frightened and wouldn’t dare approach here again anytime soon.”

”We’ve completed our target missions for the past two days, exhausting the Pigmen’s surviving forces.”

”Phase one is complete, now we can proceed to the Second Phase.”

After a brief discussion, they began to implement the plans.

The purpose of the Second Phase was simple: conduct special operations based on heroes and the Honor Guard, using four-person teams.

The teams formed by the Honor Guards began their actions from the hole where the Beast Lair was first discovered, employing fragmentation blasting to continually cut the edges, compressing Beast Lair spaces.

The teams of heroes operated at Point 3 in the wilderness, with the main task of continually harassing to attract the Pigmen’s attention, easing the pressure on the frontline for the explosions to clear.

After a short rest, soon everyone was in action, forming three teams.

Team One: Reynard, Geralt, Junia, Amanda

Team Two: Baldwin, Tadiff, Dismas, Paracelsus

Team Three: Boudica, Balistan, Alhazred, Laura

Margaret’s combat abilities weren’t suited to the Beast Lair’s narrow terrain, and since several Commanders were aware of her importance, she had to remain at the outer camp.
